I wish Shabana Mahmood could be the next Labour leader, but I don't hold out much hope of her getting enough support from fellow MPs.
If the party collectively decides it should choose a woman this time, that would narrow the field. Shabana Mahmood now has to prove she is a better Home Secretary than Yvette Cooper.
Neither can he. Wth the number of Republians defecting to the Release side.
Now we can get veto-proof majorities - with his "blessing".
That said, the "ongoing investigation" by DoJ into Clinton and the Democrats will restrict the document being released. So will the release be "honest and true"? That's a maybe...
Straight off the boat, right hand over your chains, your phones, what cash you got, come on hand it all over, all of it in the box, its going on Cash Convertors to pay for the Travelodge....under a Labour Home Secretary. The party who until a year ago would protest every single attempt to do anything.
Its not really going to happen though is it.
It's like Robert Jenrick says. Asylum seekers wouldn't have been put up in hotels on his watch, in point of fact, there were no asylum seekers on his watch.
@RepMTG The hoax pizza deliveries have started now, to my house and my family members.
Update: we also received a pipe bomb threat on my construction companies office building.
President Trump’s unwarranted and vicious attacks against me were a dog whistle to dangerous radicals that could lead to serious attacks on me and my family.

Shabana Mahmood has an article out in guardian on asylum reform. Reads well. And points for correctly identifying the guardian as the place to put it rather than the Telegraph.
I don't know if this is genuine on Trump's part or if he is relying on DoJ investigations into Democrat links will impose its own delay.
I assumed it just meant he'd had time to destroy all the relevant documents.
Or hide them in a random bathroom.
I am not sure the narrative is under Trump's control now. The Katie Johnson interview was back out on YouTube this weekend as was the story of Epstein's fury that he had been denied taking the virginity of an underage nubile because a particular "friend" had beaten him to it.
When I hear the phrase "lanyard wearing class", I don't think of people who have rainbow coloured lanyards to show that they are in favour of LGBT rights.
I think of people who do jobs where they are required to wear lanyards. Which is lots of people. Which means, at the very least, that the phrase seems a little sneering.
If @ozymandias is correct in his assessment, then why didn't he say something like "those who wear their political beliefs round their necks" or somesuch.
Remember that Starkey came to national attention as "The rudest man in Britain". He hasn't mellowed since.
(Checking that- it was 1995. Blimey. We really need some new faces. Also, it was following an appearance on The Moral Maze. Has any Radio 4 show been more disastrous in terms of who it has thrust into the national conversation?)
I have a theory that "lanyard wearing classes" is code for Public sector i.e., not real worker). After all. Visit any school or hospital and everyone working there will have one.
But it just shows how ignorant* the lovers of the phrase are. Just look at any bank, factory, data processing office ...
*Or utterly inner London centric.
Not sure every factory requires them, indeed some factories I have been to they'd be classed as a breach of health and safety. No ties for the same reason, do not want to get caught in the machinery.
Its one of those things that varies dramatically, but in general where they're required they're ubiquitous and you don't really get a choice on the matter.
Deaths reported by the HSE suggests its not ties but falling things. So don't drop the landyard.

On Mahmoud, that bellwether of our times, Sean Thomas Knox, has clearly been looking into her. Claims nothing is known of he4vpersonal life, or at least there is nothing to be found on the internet. Is she married, single? Gay, straight? Children, no children?
I’m all for keeping private lives private but is it tenable to have nothing out there about your affairs?
She is a devout Muslim and single I believe.
'In a 2024 interview with Gabriel Pogrund of The Sunday Times, Mahmood was described as a "devout Muslim". She said, "My faith is the centrepoint of my life and it drives me to public service, it drives me in the way that I live my life and I see my life.' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shabana_Mahmood#LGBT_issues
Perhaps she is a devout muslim. Or perhaps we have reached the apogee of equality in Britain: one can lie about being a committed Muslim to appear primeministerial just as surely as one can lie about being a committed Christian for the same purpose.
ISTR a LD (e) leader was ousted because he was a Christian.
He was also really quite rubbish. I only have a faint memory of anything to do with him being a Christian. But I have very strong memories of him being, well, really rubbish.
Being Christian wasn't really an issue, although people did raise questions about the impact of his faith, and didn't he basically admit to lying about things to stop the questions about what he thought was a sin, which is something he later said he regretted doing?
He tied himself up in knots over whether he thought gay sex was a sin or not, was absent for the third reading of the same sex marriage vote and had voted against the Equality_Act_(Sexual_Orientation)_Regulations_2007. He might have got away with that as a Tory or Reform leader but not as LD leader
Tim Farron is clearly a great MP - 62.7% (with a turnout of 68.8%) at the last election up 22% on the previous one. And a good bloke too. Despite (?) his christianity.

Trump on Tucker Carlson's interview with Nick Fuentes "you can't tell him who to interview... if he wants to interview Nick Fuentes, I don't know much about him, but if he wants to do it, get the word out, let him... ultimately, people have to decide."
Quite right: if a British journalist had the opportunity to interview Hitler in the 1930s, he should have taken it.
However, if said journalist did an "aren't you wonderful Mr Hitler" interview that skipped over -say- his views on the Jews, you might regard it as a bit of a whitewash.
Tucker Carlson is not a journalist. he is far right propagandist whose lies were so egregious and insidious that he was fired *by Rupert Murdoch* for his extreme comments as Fox News were forced to pay the largest damages settlement in US media history. The fact that Carlson has also been publicly supportive, not just of Putin but also Bashar Al-Assad, Orban of Hungary, the murderous polices of Bukele's administration in El Salvador, and every kooky, bat shit racist who turns up, is just a detail. The idea that a man who has come within a whisker of advocating racist violence against any and all of his opponents is why even *Fox* eventually considered him a liability. Therefore the idea that his interactions with the even more extreme Fuentes would do anything more than simply promote and showcase Fuentes's poisonous views is obviously ridiculous. Openly Fascist log rolling should receive condemnation, and anyone who records these people as "journalists" might as well call Goebbels a journalist. So, call them far right or fascist propagandists please, there is no objectivity and preciously little honesty in anything they produce.

There was (possibly still there) a Louis Theroux on IPlayer where he spends time with Fuentes and also other similar extreme MAGAs. Fuentes is really deeply unpleasant and oily. I can’t remember if Charlie Kirk was on it because I watched it about four years ago I think but was an eye opener at the time about these extreme loons.

There are a number of very good MPs who would very likely make dreadful party leaders.
The Ken Burns American Revolution doc is out: All the episodes are now live.
Here is a screenshot of what is to come in Episode 4.
Look: it's a fine show, but if no one involved in the quality control process of a show that cost $30 million to make caught that the gun being shown during a George Washington voiceover wasn't adopted by the US army for another 60 years, I can't really recommend it. https://x.com/KKriegeBlog/status/1990276124476067908

Quite right, such anachronisms are bad enough in dramas, in documentaries beyond the pale.
Though the average USonian thinks the wholly writ that is the 2nd Amendment drafted in the age of flintlock muzzle loaders should also apply to assault rifles, so they won’t be that bothered.

Back when MVG became the youngest World No. 1 at 24, it was seen as an incredible feat.
Luke Littler just beat that by 6 years.

I'm getting that image on reading that post, for some reason.

Currently 3C, but feels like zero in Yorkshire.
“There is no implication of any wrongdoing by Trump in the emails.”
What they should have said is that there is no proof of any wrongdoing. There IS plenty of implication!

Advent gets earlier every year.
Trump doesn’t have to call on House Republican to vote to release the file.
Trump can order Bondi and Patel to release the files. Tomorrow.
The question is, has he already ordered Bondi and Patel to destroy some of the files after they went through them months ago.

Remember that a House vote doesn't enact anything - it would then need to go through the Senate, and gain formal presidential approval.
So this is also about playing for time in the face of overwhelming public opinion.
