The Greens have come out for the brummy Islamists

“Green party calls for all Israeli teams to be banned from international competitions because of events in Gaza

“The Green party has issued a statement on the Maccabi Tel Aviv fan ban, in a comment from its co-deputy leader, Mothin Ali, a Leeds councillor.

“He has criticised Keir Starmer for trying to over-rule an operatational decision taken by the police. Ali said:

“Everyone should be able to feel safe when they attend a football match, that’s non-negotiable. It’s irresponsible for Keir Starmer to question a safety decision of a local authority, especially when he is responsible for their chronic underfunding.

“Ali went on to implicitly defend the plan, but he also went much further – saying all Israeli teams should be banned from international competitions because of what is happening in Gaza. He said:

“Under normal circumstances, supporters from across the fanbase should be allowed to attend and provision taken to ban violent elements such as The Ultras. But these are not normal circumstances: these games are taking place in the context of thousands of civilians being killed in Gaza, the illegal occupation of Palestinian land, and the upholding of a system of apartheid.
This raises serious moral questions for the UK, UEFA, and the wider football community. We need a sporting and cultural boycott of all Israeli teams, like we saw for South African teams under apartheid”

    (Guardian liveblog)

The Greens really have parked their eco-tanks on Jezbollah’s allottment. THEY are going to be the pro-Palestinian Islamo-Marxist party

It is such a strange evolution for a movement that began with saving newts and protecting bats. They seem to have forgotten all that

I wonder how older Green Party members feel about all this. Some must be really unhappy

I honestly would tactically vote for Starmer Labour to beat the Greens, Polanski is Corbyn with bells on
Yes, the Greens are quite loathsome. And they have a worrying grip on the young
    I agree.
But there's a very simple reason that my daughter and most of her contemporaries will vote Green: tuition fees. LibLabCon have royally shafted the young, and in particular that large part of it which goes to university. Why wouldn't you vote Green if all the others are proposing that yiu should start your adult life £50k or more in debt?
True, but this will be a non issue very soon when it becomes clear that going to university is worse than pointless
Perhaps. But the Greens will remain the party telling the young 'we'll do something for you'. I can't see 'you're all unemployable, piss off while we continue to milk you for pensioners' going down well even if it is true.

    Re discussions about 'the rich'.

One determinant may be when the daily movements on the financial markets make you thousands of pounds richer or poorer.

It certainly makes those spending their time in bookies or obsessing on niche betting websites look small time in comparison.

This determinant can only properly be appreciated by those with DC pensions.

I think you are really rich once you reach the point that you don't have to care about movements on the stock market, or about money in general. The money is always there, to enable you to do the things you want to do.
And when one reaches that stage people start to believe that to be "really rich" you have homes in at least 3 countries and at least one of a boat or private jet. It is amazing how few people are willing to accept they are rich.
I have a friend who is worth about £950m. Literally (he married very well)

He once denied that he was “truly rich”. Why? Because he hangs out in LA with people worth multiple billions not just one billion, and THEY are the “truly rich” in his eyes
Crassus' view was that you weren't truly rich unless you could recruit and equip a legion, at your own expense.

Recruiting, arming, paying, and maintaining 5,000 soldiers today? That would cost probably about £1bn annually, in a rich world country.
It would be fascinating to work out - if it’s possible - the richest man or woman in history

    Elon must be up there

But then, how do you assess a medieval king in a feudal state who theoretically owns the entire nation?

Or a Roman emperor like Augustus?
Augustus was also worshipped as a god, and founded a dynasty, which gives him something of an edge.

More admirable is Andrew Carnegie, who gave most of his enormous wealth away.
Gained in part from shooting at strikers, albeit that was bog standard for rich capitalists in the US at the time.

Perhaps more telling is his [edit] *self-built* birthplace museum, in Dunfermline. It is quite something to visit. The actual tiny family weaver's cottage (itself a rare and interesting survivor) is absolutely dwarfed by massive halls and galleries surrounding it, including a museum gallery partly filled with the silver keys and orations of thanks and so forth from the opening of new libraries and so on, arising from his spending his wealth - admittedly on many libraries and museums in the UK. He certainly liked his reputation to be polished.

His trust still survives and is active today IIRC. And his dinosaur Diplodocus carnegiei and its plaster casts in London, etc., are still very much doing service in museums.
I don't think any billionaires are saints - nor are many in the latter category likely ever to become billionaires ?

But those finding purpose in giving away their wealth are to be praised rather than condemned for that, IMO.

Don't Glasgow police manage the potential absolute warzone that is a Rangers vs Celtic game several times a year?

Perhaps they should be bought in as consultants?

They can manage in the West Mids the hostile Blues-Villa and Wolves-Ollbeeyun derbies which are both rather febrile.

Kemi going in high off her feet with a two footed challenge..

Badenoch has spoken to broadcasters on the football fan ban:

“This is a national disgrace. This is something that the police should be able to deal with. We cannot be a country where we tell Jewish people that they can’t come to watch football because their security is not going to be looked after. What I want to see is the police finding ways to make sure they can be secure and sending the message to the Islamists and those who are pushing anti-Jewish hatred that this does not happen in the UK. Britain has always been a sanctuary for Jews and it always should be.”

Badenoch was asked if the police should reverse the decision:

“Yes, they should. And if not, the Home Secretary should get involved. Last week, she was telling us uh all the things that she wanted to do for Jewish people. I didn’t believe her then. I remember when she was lying down in front of a Sainsbury’s because it was selling Israeli goods. They need to give confidence to Jewish people in our country. And if the Home Secretary can’t do it, then the Prime Minister should. He needs to show that he’s got a backbone and isn’t so weak that he will just allow Jewish people to be terrorised here

So it’s no longer antisemitic to conflate Jews with Israelis? Good to know.

To be pedantic, the part of Britain called England has not always been a sanctuary for Jews, from its invention of the blood libel until the arrival of Lord Protector Cromwell specifically.

London started just 0.12 new homes per 1,000 people in the first quarter this year. That's less than 25% of the English per capita rate.

While housing starts are down by about 10% across England, they're down 73% in London!

Love to know where the money is coming from - this Government can't even pay for all the things it currently spends money on let alone other items.
They make it clear in the guardian article I linked, as we only recently paid off the money paid to slave owners, do,the same borrow/issue gilts, on a long term basis to cover the £19 trillion we are deemed to owe and pay it back gradually
That is 600% of GDP. I'm not sure what these people have done to deserve such generosity from us.

Simon Beresford (I think - the ST rich list guy) did it 15 years ago in a book called “the richest of the rich”. His methodology was % of GDP at death.

I still have it somewhere but from memory it was Hammurabi of Babylon, then Alan Rufus (he owned 7% of England’s GDP on the basis of being the childhood best friend of William the Bastard)
According to wiki Rufus was only third in England at the time of the Doomsday Book so seems an unlikely candidate.
It’s been 14.5 years since I read it to be fair!

Yahoo News (that quality source) estimates his wealth in today’s terms as $223 billion, so not as rich as Bezos, Musk etc but certainly not doing badly

How can we ever bid to host any international sporting event if we cannot ensure the safety of a visiting team’s fans from people being extreme about events in another country.

What if we bid to host the World Cup and FIFA say no - we cannot be sure that all fans can attend safely. This is also the sort of shit that Russia and China will happily stir up over social media to cause even more discord. It should never have been a consideration in the first place.

Some of the members maybe, Starmer is not stupid enough to require taxpayers to fund it.

Otherwise Labour would fall to third or even 4th, certainly in seats outside the inner cities and university towns.

If a few wealthy old aristocratic families and companies like Barclays want to give some reparations for owning slaves or investing in slave trading companies from the 17th to early 19th century so be it, most British people won't and nor should they as their largely working class or peasant ancestors at the time had no involvement in it at all
    The CoE does as well.

I suspect some form of ‘reparations’ will come via the foreign aid budget in future.

Lenny Henry has written a book on it too.
Yes and Lenny Henry's plan was made, taxpayers will not accept higher taxes to fund a higher foreign aid budget to fund reparations.

If you wanted an early Christmas present for Farage that would be it
His and his fellow authors interview in the Guardian, which is pretty favourable to his cause, makes it clear it’s long term borrowing needed to fund it.

‘ Even though it sticks in our throats that we were still paying for the compensation to slave owners until 2015, that’s a really good example of how you borrow money and pay it back over a long period of time. There’s loads and loads of ways. And so people should not be scared that reparations would bankrupt Britain.’

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/sep/24/lenny-henry-marcus-ryder-the-case-for-reparations-slavery
So do we get to own Barbados since the former slaves received that for free?

Love to know where the money is coming from - this Government can't even pay for all the things it currently spends money on let alone other items.
They make it clear in the guardian article I linked, as we only recently paid off the money paid to slave owners, do,the same borrow/issue gilts, on a long term basis to cover the £19 trillion we are deemed to owe and pay it back gradually
That is 600% of GDP. I'm not sure what these people have done to deserve such generosity from us.
    Written a book about it.

I’m sure they have generously netted it off the trillions we owe !!!!

I think there's a good chance this match doesn't get played at Villa Park. Away fans or not, there's now a huge risk it attracts trouble makers.

Don't Glasgow police manage the potential absolute warzone that is a Rangers vs Celtic game several times a year?

Perhaps they should be bought in as consultants?

The Rangers v Celtic games are normally played on a Sunday before the pubs open. The Villa v Tel Aviv game could also be moved to a more suitable time, although it would no doubt upset the TV sugar daddies. It could be played on a Friday morning when the muslims are all at the mosque.

If it is moved, it could be played at Luton so that Tommy Manynames doesn’t have to travel too far.

Reminder: the violence in Amsterdam was not a reaction to Maccabi fans chanting idiotic things. I’d be very surprised if anyone in Amsterdam understands football chants in Hebrew.

Court transcripts showed that the “Jew hunt”, as the perpetrators called it, was organised days in advance of the game.

It was planned in a WhatsApp group that had over 900 members, that was infiltrated by police, but they failed to act. Antisemitic language was rife in the group."

I think we should be offering them our entire net wealth as a country. But I'd let them pay back the shortfall by instalments. because I am soft that way.

For once at least she is absolutely right. Said the same thing myself last night. This is a national embarrassment .

It is truly astounding. As I said last night the Chief Constable of West Midlands really should be considering his position.

If we think FIFA care about any of this we are very much mistaken. Infantino is all $$$$$$ and power.
In any case Infantino is too busy cementing the big beautiful Gaza peace deal.
On R4’s Strong Message Here the hysterical laughter from Ianucci and Stuart Lee when his presence at the mass Trump grovel was brought up was instructive (the whole thing is worth a listen).

It truly is. I am actually embarrassed to be English on the back of this. How anyone can deny that multiculturalism has failed is beyond me. Of course plenty of Muslims are perfectly nice people, same as any other group, but the blasphemy laws, the Batley teacher, the PB unmentionable, 7/7, Lee Rigby, Manchester Arena, London Bridge, the crazy Islamic MPs, and now this. How can anyone think mass Islamic immigration has been good for this country? If you’d have showed that list of incidents to the most pro immigration politician from the 60s they’d have accused you of grotesque scaremongering

I seem to remember that the European tie in the Netherlands had trouble with the fans, started by Maccabi supporters running riot against local Muslims etc. that then led to big problems by both sides. Perhaps if Maccabi can guarantee to the behaviour of their supporters then Birmingham city council may relent.

I suspect no need. Sir Keir is majoring hard on this. We'll probably hear that the ban has been lifted later today.

What if we bid to host the World Cup and FIFA say no - we cannot be sure that all fans can attend safely. This is also the sort of shit that Russia and China will happily stir up over social media to cause even more discord. It should never have been a consideration in the first place.
It is truly astounding. As I said last night the Chief Constable of West Midlands really should be considering his position.
Sadly he'll instead by lapping up plaudits by the antisemitic MPs and voters and their apologists that like this decision instead.
    Eh, democracy

For once at least she is absolutely right. Said the same thing myself last night. This is a national embarrassment .
Yeah but we got curry. Swings and roundabouts
    Muslims invented curry, you sure?
Given that chillies come from South America, is there something we haven't been told?

It would be interesting to know from pro multiculturalists how bad it would have to be for them to concede that it was a failed experiment. Pre 1960s, countries were far more of a monolithic bloc of people. Globalism and the lack of emphasis on integration have created the mess we have today. I doubt anyone from the 60s would believe the fractured state of England today, and how we kowtow to Islamic ways

Bombing, rapes, sectarianism etc aren’t enough. Maybe nothing is? There will be a decent sized tail of Islamic MPs in Parliament wagging the dog soon. Will that be the tipping point? Too late I’d say

Sir Keir has his enemies, but his intervention over the Maccabi ban is perhaps one of the bravest moves by a British prime minister on a point of principle that I can recall. If the ban is overturned (as I suspect it will be imminently) then any ensuing trouble will be his sole responsibility and he will have to go. To quote Andy Marr in another context: '... it would be entirely ungracious, even for his critics, not to acknowledge that tonight he stands as a larger man and a stronger prime minister as a result.'

Utter madness. It is perhaps the clearest example of people prepared to ruin themselves and others rather than admit a mistake.

Immigration is like nuclear energy; useful, perhaps even necessary, but to be handled with the most extreme caution. Mass Islamic immigration into the UK is the equivalent of Chernobyl

You are overthinking this. He won't have to resign over some street violence. Indeed it gives him a chance to say some stern words which won't do him any harm at all.

Amazingly this was the same guy who was 'dismayed' when he received criticism of the selfie at Pele's funeral

Yeah but we got curry. Swings and roundabouts

The online discourse about Israel is completely one sided and downright scary. Israel and everything associated with it are the ultimate bad guys and everything Hamas or anyone else does in opposition to them is justified. It’s a meme at this point and it’s scary. There is no nuance whatsoever.

The weird thing is plenty of politicians - very senior - have explicitly said “multiculturalism is a failure” or “multiculturalism has been disastrous” and so on. David Cameron said it. Angela Merkel said it

Yet still we piously intone that “diversity is our strength” like the drab citizens in “1984” saluting Big Brother and his vacuous slogans
Sadiq Khan often says that, but it’s helped him get re elected.

Starmer should not be involving himself in operational police decision making.

The Dutch police, it turned out, were monitoring various social media groups, well before that game.

On which people were organising a "Jew Hunt"

Yes, many groups from all sides were set for trouble.

I do not see it a resignation matter but more a policing failure

For decades I had a season ticket at Old Trafford and attended many high profile Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs games and witnessed lots of agro controlled by the police

Is interesting how so often politicians use that as a get out or use it to shut down anybody criticising the police decisions, then all of a sudden they wade in.

Why is it that African slavery is the unique situation demanding reparations? Why cannot the nations conquered by Rome Perdue modern Italy? How can anyone have the ledger truly established? It’s nonsense.

Shocked that this is his take.

The Green Party Deputy Leader Mothin Ali, however, said "under normal circumstances" all fans should be allowed to attend, but also called for a sporting and cultural boycott of Israeli teams because of the war in Gaza

He obviously didn't get the memo about the ceasefire.

Demographics drive so much of this and people don't give it enough consideration. By not addressing their demographic timebomb it does cause bigger issues at least as significant and damaging as the cultural changes of immigration. And immigration does bring benefits as well as problems.

What we have got wrong here recently is:

Not building infrastructure and housing to match immigration
The Boris Wave without the above
Not enough focus on integration in terms of language and culture
Poor political leadership - both afraid to criticise migration and too defend it, messaging ending up garbled instead.

Yeah but we got curry. Swings and roundabouts

I suspect we have passed the tipping point already.
So you think the UK is doomed…?
    Realistically, I think so.
We have seemingly passed a tipping point around trans (trans women, at least). I think this could be similar in the field of multiculturism/Britishness. I know many, many people are upset by Gaza, and probably a lot of them are not antisemitic, but my god so many of them do seem to rather hate the Jews.

Why is it that African slavery is the unique situation demanding reparations? Why cannot the nations conquered by Rome Perdue modern Italy? How can anyone have the ledger truly established? It’s nonsense.
Because no one is brave enough to stand up and say “shut the fuck up, this is nonsense”

It just takes one brave politician to do that. In an emphatic way. And mean it. And the whole surreal and imbecile cavalcade of woke grievance bollocks will totter and fall

Japan has gone the other way and had very low immigration compared to other rich countries. It has caused a very different set of issues and Japanese people rank lowly on happiness indices.
So they’d be happier with mass inward migration ?
We will find out in due course.

Assuming we could borrow the money at current gilt rates (doubtful), the interest bill (never mind paying down the capital) would be in the region of 25-30% of GDP.

Someone needs to tell these grifters no, in words of one syllable.

Starmer should not be involving himself in operational police decision making.
Operational police decisions are how to deliver the tasks they're set. Telling jews they're not welcome because we don't back ourselves to control antisemites is not an operation decision, it's a political one.

It's now clear the Government has known this was coming for a week, but at least the reaction of decent people has shocked them in to action eventually.

Is the Lyon vs Tel Aviv going ahead in late November?

Pretty sure Lyon has a high % of people who might choose to cause trouble around the game as Birmingham seems to have in the judgment of the police.
