How did the BBC stoke the faux outrage?FrancisUrquhart said:So, Mike Reid has been forced to withdraw his parody tune, following the likes of the BBC stoking the faux outrage, not over it being a terrible tune, but supposedly racist.
However, the BBC still happy to flog this equally terrible comedy in their shop, where Matt Lucas blacks up and puts on a Caribbean accent. Crimes against comedy yes, but racist?

Yesterday Labour were due to introduce an amendment to a bill that would require late paying firms to have to pay interest at 8% above base rate, there was to be a vote on it. In principle I think this a very long overdue measure to tackle a problem that the Conservatives, to their shame, have shied away from. My Google-fu is weak, does any one know what happened to the vote.

The Lib Dems have also come up with another policy outline that should be welcomed - helping the over 55s move into smaller accommodation when they decide their present home is too big for them. Lots of detail to work out, of course, but in principle it is a very sound idea.

The suggestion was that you would have a lottery for immigration to the UK, and that this would be an attractive alternative to paying large sums of money to people-trafficking gangs.
What are the pull factors in illegal immigration:
better wages
access to benefits and services
lack of fear of detection
promise of regularisation
automatic (whatever the law says) naturalisation of children born here
lack of fear of deportation
There are plenty of ways to stop illegal immigration. Just that society would balk at some such measures.
For example, why are illegal immigrants not jailed per se. It would soon get rid of the crowds at Calais.
A strict jus sanguinis would ensure children born to illegals have no UK nationality.
Criminality leads to deportation. Of the whole family.0 -

The trouble is though UKIP are growing in terms of membership, support and influence. You may not like that and you can produce what supplementary polling you like but it doesn't change the fact that UKIP are now in Parliament and are likely to win some more seats at the next GE. Re-running the fruitcakes, loonies and closet racists line twenty times a day is not going to make any difference. It didn't work when Cameron first tried it and its not going to work now.TheScreamingEagles said:Isam, if you think, that the supplementary polling that shows UKIP are the most disliked party, is also the most extreme, least fit to govern party is good polling, especially when tactical anti-UKIP voting is likely at the next election, then I can't help you.

Labour finishing 2nd behind UKIP would be a great result for them. It'd seriously damage Cameron, it'd make sitting Tory MPs in the area very nervous about their position and it would also make the previously safe seat, a UKIP versus Labour battle next May.
They're only 6% off this after the first poll.0 -

As Mike said, recently he's learnt that 45% represents a majority.
I think isam has to be in the running for JK; he's quite insightful, gets in silly arguments and seems to get himself occasionally banned. All we need now is for him to set up his own website and start insulting you an Mike on it. Then he can achieve PBKipper martyrdom.
Any takers for the kipper-malcolmg? You'll need some highly amusing insults to repeat ad infinitum and (obviously) a severe persecution complex0 -

First the excruciating Schwarzeneggereque accents: "When I keessed the teachah".
Then the excruciating grammar: "No more ace to play"; "There's not I think a single episode of Dallas that I didn't see".
Then the excruciating popspeak: "Feeling blue". "I was blue".
It was only ever OKish bland background noise. I am baffled by the fuss.

3. I actually said it was excruciating. I am fairly sure "more ace" is grammatically incorrect, though. In either case why not consult with a native speaker and get it right? What's wrong with "No ace left to play" or "I don't think there's a single episode of Dallas that I haven't seen", which both scan and mean the same thing?
4. No, because whereas lots of people say "I can't get no...", only Abba ever "feel blue". As a piece of purported English, this may exist in some Swedish school textbook on the English language, but it doesn't exist in the wild.0 -

I don’t think having dinner a neighbour a few times in 10+ years should disqualify someone from getting on with this!
We had dinner with our former neighbours once or twice; I don’t we agreed about anything except how often our mutual hedge should be cut!
This is politically motivated bullsh1t by people either (a) want to bash the Tories and don't give a flying f*ck about the victims or (b) want to delay the inquiry because they fear the consequences. It's pathetic.
