Now that the LAB leadership is settled Starmer has edged up further in the betting for next PM. Clearly he is the main alternative to Johnson but so much could happen between now and the next general election.

Carragher is in the wrong. Premier League clubs pay billions every single year to the Exchequer in taxes. This scheme was set up for all businesses affected not just some and they are affected. They're at risk of losing tens or hundreds of millions in revenue so why besides the green eyed monster should they pay taxes but not get what those taxes are paying for right now?Big_G_NorthWales said:0 -

One thing which might boost Starmer's chances of getting to No 10 is that of the 3 post WW2 Labour leaders of the opposition who fought a general election after more than 10 years of the Tories in power, Wilson, Kinnock and Blair, 2/3 of them won0

I don't know what Kier Starmer sounds like. Never heard him interviewed or a speech. Haven't been going out there to avoid him, but equally can't be bothered to seek out something to watch. Never heard RLB either. I've heard Lisa Nandy and Emily Thornberry quite a lot. The latter before the leadership election, the former only during it.0

FPT:
Andrew Adonis correctly pointed out the poor record of Labour party leaders since its formation, with only three winning a majority (Which I assume are Attlee, Wilson and Blair.
On that subject, I'm sure I recall just after Hague lost in 2001 and resigned that it was said he was the first Conservative party leader EVER to not become Prime Minister. Haven't checked Wiki to confirm but it certainly sounds plausible.
He was swiftly followed by Duncan-Smith and Howard, who also continued his run, but then Cameron, May and Johnson have all reverted to type and become Prime Minister as well as leader of the party.
When you look back through history you are reminded just how poorly the parties OTHER than the Conservative party have done, certainly since World War I.0 -

Western governments will have no tax receipts. No income tax if no one earns. There is no VAT if no one spends. The is no corporation tax if there is no profit. How in the name of all that is reasonably sane fight an economic war in those circumstances?MaxPB said:
