I believe the challenge arose because of your response to my original post about poor equipment and ammo supply by Labour to the troops. AndyJS put up a great video about the "Bananas Republic" aka "People's Republic of Islington" during the 80s, which shows Hodge et al in action. Funny how some of the things flagged up as outrageous at the time, like LGBT aspects of sex ed, would now be seen as utterly normal ... while on the other hand, the bust of Marx placed the proceedings in the far-distant past.HYUFD said:

Looking at the tweets there is no indication it is actually members of the PLP, the Corbynista is just editorialising there. Besides we know the PLP don't have a gonad between them. Probably just some councillors etc.Moses_ said:

Have to say I'm sceptical about a large bloc of the PLP forming a whole new party, as of tomorrow. Will believe it when I see it, they don't seem to have the gumption or the guts. Moreover, the kind of people who might be reasonable figureheads for such a movement seem very heavily invested in the Saving Labour/Labour First project.
Some councillors cutting up their membership cards? Sure. Some Lords going cross-bench or finding alternative activities outside parliament? Sure. The odd MP to defect to the Lib Dems? Reasonable. I wouldn't even be knocked out by a defection to Plaid or the Tories, would be thoroughly amused if one joins the Greens.
But if there are going to be en masse resignations of MPs, it seems to me most likely that they'd be leaving the PLP whip but possibly not resigning from the party as individuals. That would give them some scope and flexibility for what to do next. Quitting after only a year of Corbyn seems rather premature, moreover I'd be astonished if they'd already completed the groundwork for getting a new party up and running. The SDP took significant planning but was basically ready to go at a moment's notice once the work was done. It wasn't a secret that it had been in the works. I suppose this time it could have been plotted via email etc so no need for everyone to meet round somebody's flat... but with any significant numbers, it would have been a pain to keep everyone shtum, surely?0 -

Peers far more likely than MPs as Peers have a job for life.
IF it really is 84 members of PLP (which I doubt) then I would imagine it'll be something like:
- 20 MPs
- 64 Peers0 -
Amazing how many press reports, before an event, contain the four letters "up to". Wonder why that's not as common as giving the low side of the confidence interval?MikeL said:Peers far more likely than MPs as Peers have a job for life.

I think SO would appreciate this one:
http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/politics/politics-headlines/corbyn-announces-decommissioning-of-labour-party-20160924114312
JEREMY Corbyn has confirmed the Labour Party is to be dismantled, greased and put into storage.
Following his re-election, the Labour leader told members that continuing to run a party without any chance of achieving government was wasteful, expensive and bad for the environment, so it would be put away until a more optimistic electoral outcome could be achieved. ...
Unfair but quite funny, and I'm sure it captures the mood of 38% of Labour members and supporters.
He added: “Do not mourn for us for we are not dead. We are merely sleeping until you have need of us again.
“Good luck with all that stuff, by the way. I hope it goes well.”
