And it would actually work: Give all those gun nuts and gun company researchers who spend all their time thinking about how to make the guns fire fast and more powerfully a reason to work on the problem of making it harder for nutjobs to use their guns to kill people. That's way better than the main alternative, where you try to carve out specific types of weapons that are particularly dangerous, then the gun companies immediately work out how to make the gun do the same thing while avoiding the letter of the regulations.
