Jacob Rees-Mogg is a second tier 18th century politician who failed to oust Theresa May and then snipes nonsense from the sidelines. He isn’t greatly respected. https://t.co/nvyoGbPHui
TBF Mark Carney is a first tier central banker and back in the day Ken Clarke was a first tier politician. Rees-Mogg isn't a first or even a second tier anything.
I have started to wonder if Jacob Rees-Mogg is going to be a footnote in political history rather sooner than many expect. He does represent a marginal seat and I fail to see how he could hang on against a co-ordinated campaign to get him out rather like Chris Patten in Bath in 1992. Though the Bath campaign benefited from the LD being challenger rather than the Labour party in his seat, still, he is such an unlikeable chap I could see his defeat being a moment of delight even if Labour failed to win in any election night broadcast.

Rees-Joke and Johnson are both looking surprisingly vulnerable... a lot of money will be spent to get them out, and I rather think that CCHQ might not be very worried about that

If come the time, it looks at all likely that Johnson would lose I wouldn't be surprised if he resigned beforehand 'to pursue other projects'. He couldn't take the humiliation, and undisguised glee across the nation.

I think a Boris Johnson defeat would see scenes reminiscent of David Mellor Vs. James Goldsmith in 1997! Johnson might be liked by a dwindling band of Leavers but he is despised by everybody else. Mind you the nation might get a cathartic feeling of being able to move on if he was humiliated in an election.
Ah. I read a newspaper article recently that mis-wrote "to the manor born" as "to the manner born" and, if we assume that Rees-Mogg made a similar homophonical mix-up in his youth, hearing "manors make the man" where "manners make the man" was intended then it would explain much. Simple mistake!

I used to have to write that in detention 600 times.
Mind you it was in the fifties when it meant something

Just been watching the BBC4 programmes about the Royal Cousins (George V, Nicholas II and Wilhelm II); the similarities between Wilhelm and Trump are striking.

Couldn't somebody organise a recall petition?
You can only do it if he's been done for something. Being an idiot isn't sufficient, there are too many of them.
Simon is very polite. Presumably he’s your MP @Benpointer ?
He is. Met him once when he came to our village hall for a Q&A before the last GE. Seemed a nice enough One Nation Tory but never going to set the world alight. Shame the Tories don't have more like him though.

There’s quite a lot of us ONTs in the party. I’m glad you liked him.

Do I count Ben
Indeed you do Big_G.
Problem is the Nasty Party types get all the publicitiy and seem to be causing all the chaos.

Theresa's successor will surely have to ban the ERG and expel its members. This is a highly destructive yet highly organized entity with its own agenda and ideology. No one voted for it yet it wields extraordinary power as a parasite within the Tory party. It must be cut out.

Lol. The Tory Party is now the Brexit party, it's almost as late to turn the clock back as for the Blairites.

Indeed. There is a need for a Kinnock speech moment perhaps. Anyway, not my Party. But good to see someone calling out Jakey Boy for his manners. Posh voice, posh clothes cannot disguise his fundamental arrogance and disdain for anyone who stands in his way.
I don't understand why the Government has managed to get itself hung up on the question about whether the deal is better or worse economically than staying in the EU. As long as the difference isn't huge, they should be playing up the trade off on the other differences ie. freedom of movement, no more 'ever closer union', money, etc etc
After all, it's not anything they didn't argue during the referendum itself.

Hopefully not much longer. Time to reset to TM deal, Norway or remain

The membership have pretty much always been very sceptical of the European Union.

I think there's enough evidence over the last few weeks to challenge the "highly organized" bit of this...

The way to do it is to see it fail by pure parliamentary numbers overwhelmimg them

Personally I would preferred to watch Harry redknapp eating sheep’s bollocks, than watch those two talk bollocks.
May camels spend the rest of eternity defecating in the living room of every Leaver.

They need to vote for TM deal or it is all over for them.
I will not shed a tear. I want my party back
I should have cooked it at Aloha temperature.

Hah - just read that as 'A stopped cock'

Leadsom backs TM deal
Big win for TM - maybe the ERG see their dream dying
The ultra loons and 18th century panjandrums have blown their own project up.
If they are very very lucky they will get Norway out of this.
Maybe evidence of the pressure constituency chairman are under to support TM
Even effect of Daily Mail in the heartlands
