You know Liam Fox is crap when even Jeremy Corbyn is taking the piss out of him,
I suspect Fox will be the last to resign as he has had a spell on the backbenches and probably knows if he quits, he might never be offered the opportunity to be a minister again. Mind you that could be said of most of the Brexiteers IMO with the exception of Raab.
News regarding Plato. Following the recent discussion here regarding Plato I sent her an email enquiring after her health. I have just received a reply from her brother informing me that Phillippa died at home of natural causes aged 51 on 29th June. She had apparently been unwell for some time, but had refused to see a doctor. Her brother tells me what we all knew - Plato lived for scrapping and discussions on forums such as this place.

RIP Plato Sounds like she was tough to the end, a strong character who knew her own mind and was not afraid to voice it
Both Johnsons seem to share the same Cnutishness at the moment. Thousand years and never has the British Gov't had such an excuse of a pair of brothers prepared to subvert the Gov't in it.

Jo Johnson trying to reverse Brexit by backing EU Ref2 and Boris demanding hard Brexit and the UK leaves the single market and customs union.
They are trying to squeeze May from both ends, Jo rallying Remainers and Boris rallying Leavers while May rallies neither but pragmatists in the middle

Plato was a feisty poster and didn't shy away from her views. She got a lot of abuse on here for those viwes, but I think she held her own. It was difficult to agree with a lot of what she believed, but I think she was one of the posters who made this site what it is today. A sad loss and terrible for her family to lose her at 51.
I have just heard again from Plato's brother, whose words I paraphrase below...
It was such a shock to me to be called by the police. Philippa was enjoying living in her new place having moved 10 months earlier, beautiful setting and safe. She was an extremely private person really but I think could have done whatever she wanted including running the country. She always described herself as a man in a woman's body ready for any challenge and I suspect the high stress of her earlier high octane life took its toll on her health.
It was a privilege to have known her and I suspect given a few breaks she could have been a fantastic leader albeit terrifying to anyone in opposition. Our parents were the same highly intelligent no compromise people so I'm not surprised she had an effect wherever she went.
I'm trying to arrange a scattering of ashes in Jesmond Dene in Newcastle where my parents were scattered I will let you know of the date.

Really sorry to hear about Plato. When I first came onto the site she was something of a mainstay and very much in the centre right consensus. Over time she evolved into more extreme positions although she was one of the few who rated Trump's chances from the off and many of her links, even if of doubtful credibility, showed an insight into the American soul that we should perhaps have paid more attention to.

RIP Plato. Ken Clarke described Theresa May as a 'bloody difficult woman' and clearly a compliment. I always felt Plato was in the same lane and it would been a compliment the same way, back in her day, one of the most refreshing, insightful and no-nonsense posters. Very sad to hear of how things ended, and sympathies to her family if they are reading. She made a real impact here.
Also thinking today of Mark Senior, URW, and SBS for the real veterans among us. Never forgotten.
Does anyone know how Labours six tests would ever happen without staying in the EU?
It's a simple proposition. If what we have now (the EU) isn't good enough, then what replaces it HAS to be better, or in the very least not worse than.

Takes all sorts and sad to hear she died so young
Very, very sorry to learn of Plato’s death. So young.
Jesus. May continues to desperately fish for a form of words to reassure anyone that she has a clue what is going on
You voted to leave. We're leaving.
Are you not entertained, is this not why you are here ?
Faaarrrknelll I forgot that Rochie was a Leaver.
A classic one at that - super-wedged up enjoying seeing the proles suffer the consequences of his vote which will leave him untouched if perhaps slightly amused.
The election would be four to six weeks later, but our Monarch would be duty-bound to announce the election on Christmas Day, assuming the OPs reading of the procedure is correct.

Would make for an interesting Royal Christmas Message.

I wish I was super wedged up - I enjoyed a good salary and negotiated a good exit deal with my now previous employer, but sitting here needing to find a job at some point in the next year or so I wouldn't describe my approach to Brexit chaos as "I'm alright jack".
I - in error - reached a judgement that as we would inevitably leave the core EU that we should do it on our own terms rathwr than theirs. What I forgot to factor in was the gross stupidity of millions of voters and many politicians

Irrespective of democratic legitimacy? There's the rub.

We had our disagreements towards the end of her time on here, but she always valiantly fought her corner.

But 51? That is no age at all. Sad.

I've just been doing some gardening, and listening to the American Innovations podcast about the development of the Polio vaccine.
It's a fascinating story that I knew little about., despite having known a couple of people who had been afflicted by it.
It's well worth a listen, and starts here:

Sad news. She livened up this place for many, many years.
