Alan Duncan (old friend of Theresa’s)? Tobias Elwood another possibility for promotion. Mel Stride or Richard Harrington? But can’t be bothered to look up the list of current Ministers of State....
From Minister of State to FCS would be a very big jump. Has anyone made such a jump since Eden (with a brief interlude as Lord Privy Seal) in 1935?
David Owen.
He went from Minister of State at the FCO to Foreign Secretary.
Edit you could argue John Major too. He went from Chief Secretary which is effectively Minister of State at the Treasury to Foreign Secretary.
Owen was promoted prematurely by Callaghan in February 1977 following Anthony Crosland's death. He never really enjoyed the status within the Government that normally goes with the office and was certainly not seen at the time as one of the big beasts of that Administration comparable to Foot, Healey, Benn and Shore. It did though bring him into public view for the first time and helped set him up to become a major figure in the early 1980s when the SDP split happened.
This is a piss poor panorama. 20 mins of covering well trodden ground then 5-10 of inneudo of what they think he was up to in the 80/90s, but they have no evidence.
Sorry folks but I'm going to be unbearably smug for the next few days, which is no change.
Lol, thanks for the early tips. I'd also like to add that Penny Mordaunt is in from 66 earlier today to 25 at the moment. I got a very nice amount on as well.
From my office where politics never gets aired: Brexit is a total shitshow. People are bored by it and angry at the sheer waste of it all. Surprising support for Theresa May who is seen as the captain that stays in the wheelhouse as the ship goes down. Unlike rats Johnson, Davis and Gove who actually sunk the ship before abandoning it. Gove is seen as especially slippery. The women in the office particularly contemptuous of male Leavers. Rees Mogg regarded as a sick joke.
I would expect Liam Fox to resign in the morning, arguing that the Chequers plan would prevent him from signing new trade deals, because of the common rule book.

Sorry, meant the vacant cabinet position, presumably at a lower ranking Dept, not the FCO.
Hunt a reasonable choice as Foreign Secretary, suave he can smoothe international diplomats and Foreign Ministers and he looks the part.
Plus as he now trails Mogg, Javid, Gove and Boris in the Tory membership next leader polls he likely realises his chance of being next PM and Tory leader has gone so he can actually focus on the job in hand and if you can't be PM Foreign Secretary is a pretty good consolation prize.
Hancock also is sharp and efficient enough to tackle Health
Jeremy Wright is the new Culture Secretary to replace Hancock (and was constituency Chairman of Warwick and Leamington when I was C.F. chairman at university)
So what? Why should a balance of Remainers and Leavers be the method for picking good Cabinet members? That hasn't worked, and it is time to forget who was on what side as being the only thing that matters. And to pick an outcome to go for. If that is hard or if that is soft. Then we can all see if the other side can accept that. If they cannot, so be it.
May does seem to have dropped all pretence of balance between leave and remain.
Which is at least progress from her prior ambivalence. At least now she stands for something. That something being cancelling Brexit in all but name.
At this rate it won't be long before cancelling it altogether becomes a serious proposition. The chances of a second referendum have greatly increased in the past 24 hours. It's not odds on yet but given that May will not be able to get any deal through Parliament it could soon be the only way forward.
Well she’s done it. Forced in a way, but she has to go down fighting or keep swimming now. Goodness knows we’ve got an interesting few months coming up.

We've had an interesting four years, since the start of the Scottish referendum campaign.
Official Conservatives – Theresa M, Philip H Real Conservatives – Jacob R-M, Sajid J, Lynn T Continuity Conservatives – Ken C, Anna S, Dominic G Provisional Conservatives – Peter B, William C
other denominations doubtless will emerge.
All this to sow confusion and doubt in the minds of the dastardly Euro elite.
Any markets up on elections to the European Parliament being held in the UK in 2019 ? In a cancelled brexit world it could become a proxy for a referenendum.
Hunt is on the record as saying that the people need to be able to vote on the terms of Brexit. A second referendum should be odds on now.
Hunt probably still believes in remaining. I don't know why he 'changed his mind'.
That referendum which had a majority for Leave may have had something to do with it.
Its funny how some seem to have difficulty with the concept.....they would appear to be Remain first, democrat second.
Well, in fairness that puts them in line with Juncker, Selmayr, Delors and Giscard. It has always been the EU's most significant weakness that it dare not trust democracy, because it gives embarrassing results.
Some people really have lost their marbles - which I guess was the point of last Friday.
THIS ISN'T THE FUCKING DEAL.
Indeed. As Boris points out in his letter, this is just May's opening offer, the actual deal may be much worse.
But the actual deal won’t be negotiated until after Brexit. If you fear what’s to come the only way to stop it is to stop Brexit. May has played this to perfection.

Who is going to be Secretary of State for wearing an NHS pin badge now?
He was saying that the Remainers are suffocating it
"Pleased"? Even dear old Brenda must be thinking this is an utter shit show by now.
If he goes, she is finished.
Sounding off, angry opinion pieces in the Telegraph, tweeting their horror have all served them so well, so far.
Oh, I know - why not come up with a plan
He isn't going anywhere.
Just as well she hadn't gone to bed early.
Edit. Oh I see this has already been confirmed.
Theresa continues to take the piss.

CHunt. If we could only now flush Fox, Grayling and Williamson I’d be happy.
