I haven't done too much of the National Rail network so far this year - for various reasons. Only bits I've done for the first time are:
Bermondsey Flyover (between London Bridge/New Cross Gate) - new construction St Pancras to Finsbury Park (London) - new construction Ordsall Curve (Manchester) - new construction Lancaster to Morecambe and Heysham - Morecambe to Heysham only runs once a day! Newport to Swansea Also - just for a bit fun! - Chester Zoo monorail
And also visited Kenilworth station, south of Coventry - it reopened just a week ago!
Did you travel on the Birmingham Airport MagLev link when it was in operation between 1984 and 1995? It was the world's first and only MagLev at the time. It's been replaced by a boring electric rail system because they couldn't find the parts to repair it.
No I didn't do the Maglev, I hadn't even been to Birmingham Airport until 2014. The train looks similar system to the Chester Zoo, though the latter has electric motors whereas Brum Airport is a pulley system.
Oh almost forgot, just two days ago did the Lee Spur in south London between Lee and Grove Park. Engineering works enabled this to be done, albeit via a circuitous route from Woolwich and Crayford!

Which is dreadful news for the Tories. They are going to have a devil of a job pleasing leave voters without alienating business, the young and foreign investors. No wonder the government can't make decisions.
True , the no decision is running out of road quickly. The decision for the long term will have to be not alienating business , as it is the conservatives raison d'etre.
Not quite, the business community supported the Liberals before they switched to the Tories over fear of Labour, pensioners and rural areas have an even longer tradition of supporting the Tories than the business community
Pensioners and rural areas also stuck with the Tories during the Blair years while big business defected to New Labour
Hilarious. In fairness, I don't think all Leavers are being deliberately duplicitous about this; it's more that from the start they were just making it up as they went along and could never keep track. I doubt they'll ever really know what they want/are doing.

When a Conservative party government is secured, we don't point out clips of arch europhiles' views. We look at the manifesto.
Why should it be any different this time?
Remainers can't accept that they've lost; little else is needed as explanation for the whining...

Corbyn also has to balance the almost 40% of Labour voters who voted Leave in 2016 and the 20% of 2015 UKIP voters who voted for him in 2017 with the majority of Labour voters and members who voted Remain
It is only a problem for him if Brexit isn't completed when he becomes PM. Post Brexit is easy for Labour.
Will they repeat the allegations outside Parliament?
Legatum calls for accountability from the four MPs who wrongly accused Christopher Chandler, founder and partner, of being a Russian agent.
Christopher Chandler:
Parliamentary privilege is a powerful weapon as it cuts across the fundamental human right to be fairly heard and represented. When that tool is wielded in a careless and cavalier manner, everyone loses. All of this could have been avoided if the MPs had simply contacted me to discuss their concerns. By having taken this very public route, they have not only needlessly and seriously damaged my hard-earned reputation, but also diminished their own reputations and that of Parliament itself. I challenge the four MPs to examine the full factual record and then defend the veracity of their claims and to stand by the courage of their convictions by repeating the allegations outside of the House of Commons where they cannot hide behind Parliamentary privilege."
Probably not as we have libel laws which place the burden of proof on the wrong party. They can lead to the wrong verdict, even when there was wrongdoing. Thus the courts found Maxwell (a crook) and Armstrong (a drugs cheat) to have been defamed. Damages were wrongly awarded against Private Eye and later the S. Times.
If we had similar libel laws to the US, I imagine they'd be more willing to discuss the matter outside parliament. The US has passed legislation making our libel verdicts null and void over there which is pretty striking.
That you are deliberately still posting that duplicitous and dishonest video shows you to be every bit as bad as those saying £350mn for the NHS. You clearly have no integrity.

No it isn't, if we have left the single market and customs union he still has to commit to staying out and not restoring free movement otherwise he risks working class Labour Leave voters staying at home or voting Tory.
However if he does that he also risks young graduate Remainers moving to the LDs to try and keep us in the single market and customs union

What's duplicitous about it? Norway and its 'option' were forever being bandied about when there was a referendum to win. Or were you not around at the time?

Andrew Neill completely tore those lies to shreds. Not one of those clips was taken during the referendum campaign and most of the quotes have been taken out of context or abused the word market to mean the opposite of what is claimed by the liars who distributed that video.
One of the speakers even specifically said in the full sentence that the 'UK won't leave the market, the market is different to the Single Market which we will leave' and the video snips it to say just that we won't leave the market claiming the speaker had said "we won't leave the [Single] [M]arket' when he was saying the opposite.

Do you think everything ever said by a Eurosceptic got wiped out the moment the referendum campaign formally started?

Which just means that the leave crowd are effective dissemblers. I can remember being quite shocked when quite close to the actual vote Michael Gove gave the first unambiguous statement that the plan was to leave the single market. It was kept pretty vague up until then. But then Gove of course, didn't actually want to win the vote.

The old badger killer is certainly an embarrassment to the Leave cause. Extraordinary that he was once mooted as a future Tory leader. Leave should just cut him loose (if they haven't done so already).

I've often wondered if we could set up some kind of idiot exchange programme whereby we could all agree to ignore pairs of egregious idiots. So we all agree that nobody will take any notice of anything that either Owen Patterson or Paul Mason says, regardless of which side you are on.

I loathe the idea that Richard Dawkins somehow represents atheists.

Population trends suggest that migration will continue to drive western politics over the next generation. Unless centrist politicians in the US and Europe can come up with new ways of dealing with the issue, the movement towards rightwing populism is likely to accelerate.

The strange thing is anti-immigration sentiment exists across the political spectrum. The dockers who marched in support of Enoch Powell were probably to a man Labour voters and as we've seen UKIP was able to appeal as much to the Labour side of the street as the Conservative (or indeed the LD).
Post-EU immigration policy still seems hopelessly muddled and confused. There now seems to be some suggestion that highly skilled EU citizens should receive some form of preferential treatment over similarly highly skilled people from other parts of the world which is of course absurd.
In any case and not wishing to call a spade a garden implement, most people's issue isn't with the migration of highly skilled individuals especially in areas where there are shortages - the issue is with low-skilled individuals who have, under the Single Market, been able and indeed encouraged to come to the UK and other richer parts of western Europe to perform the menial tasks and to underpin the service industries with all the economic and social consequences for both them and for everyone else.
I voted LEAVE because I came to see the Single Market as a pernicious mechanism about the enriching of business and those with existing wealth and the impoverishment of individuals, families and communities across the whole of Europe.
Which is dreadful news for the Tories. They are going to have a devil of a job pleasing leave voters without alienating business, the young and foreign investors. No wonder the government can't make decisions.
In electoral terms, it makes the Tories' job quite straightforward.

There is a lot of demand for low skilled workers too, from agriculture, service industries, social care and hospitality. It is why employment rates for these groups are so high.

Yes it does. But only if the voters are happy with all the consequences of Brexit, and blame the downsides on their own voting rather that the government of the day. Good luck with that.
