@Mortimer How does that counter the assertion that she has a billion quid to give to the DUP but no money for public sector workers? This looks bad for the Tories.

    A) The money is for Northern Ireland, NOT the DUP
    b) The Northern Irish are UK taxpayers
    C) £1 billion over two years is a bargain compared to the £8.5 billion NET we give to Brussels each year
    A) Pay the UK, £36bn.
    b) The British are UK taxpayers.

I note the lack of discussion hereabouts on the first quarter Scottish GDP figures - up 0.8 in the first quarter. That is FOUR TIMES the UK average figure.

For a week the Tory and Labour parties aided and abetted by the BBC have been forecasting a Scottish recession and blaming the prospect of indy ref 2. By their own logic the way to provoke a boom is to put indy ref on the table!!!!

Not as bad as ordering a rare steak and getting back semi-edible fibreboard. Wetherspoons, I'm looking at you. Mind you, they're Leave, aren't they? Maybe they incinerate on principle.

I don't care how others do them. But a rare steak, or one that's briefly seared in a pan, is wonderful.
Doesn't surprise me that you like rare meat...something that probably goes down well at the lodge whilst you are probing your back passages with trowels, hopping around on one leg and baring your wobbly man breasts....

Nick have you ever come across Muddy Fork before?

North Nottinghamshire CIC using gardening to combat mental health issues. We're funding them to pilot a new push into GPs/teachers/prisoners but wanted to flag them up to you
Do you have a link to your website or details?
Most of the grant making we do via our Fore Trust initiative (thefore.org) but my foundation's website is bulldogtrust.org. I don't believe there's a website for the Golden Bottle Trust (the main family foundation)

Edit; shout out to the Big Lottery for their support for The Fore.

Simply untrue. The Grenfell residents are being given special leave to remain for1year, after which they will able to apply for ILR.

"Newspapers" are looking for more stuff to be "outraged" about as though the deaths themselves are not enough. I've never seen anything as badly reported as Grenfall, the press has behaved appallingly from day one.

The amount of misinformation by the news media, and Sky especially, is prolonging the suffering and adding to the problems. They are stoking up anti authority anger and calling into doubt the judge appointed for the inquiry.

As I have said before the residents are traumatised and in grief and it is understandable that some cannot decide on the offers they have received and the agony of the identification of the deceased is adding to their pain.

If this carries on much longer I do believe that the residents may start to lose some support. It has to be said that labour have politicised it from day one but at least Corbyn has backed the judge. Well done to Corbyn and I do not say that often

On steak, medium rare. Also if you go for well done you get the crappiest bit of steak chef can find, as he can cremate his way out of having to throw it away.

That's not a fully true assertion, Nurses and Teachers who make the most noise got over 3% on average in 15/16, very respectable. I have some sympathy with lower paid Public Sector workers, politics has been played with a lot of jobs in recent years.

How can teachers complain though when performance is properly looked at, 40% are not at the level they should be at 11, over 50% are likely to fail this year at 16.

I agree. It's more important to have someone chair the investigation who will get a grip on the slippery characters trying to evade responsibility than it is to find someone who will empathise with the survivors.

I found it interesting that the productivity graph has been more or less level since 2008ish. It is almost like people gave up and just started marking time. It was so long ago we can hardly blame Brexit so what was going on?

"Worst decade for UK productivity since Napoleon

Not since the times of George III, Napoleon and war with America has the UK suffered such a long period of low productivity."

It just convinces me further that the recession has started its early phases.
Perhaps so. Of course pay rises without productivity gains is a recipe for disaster as the 1970s showed.
It was so long ago we can hardly blame Brexit....

I found it interesting that the productivity graph has been more or less level since 2008ish. It is almost like people gave up and just started marking time. It was so long ago we can hardly blame Brexit so what was going on?
We had the credit crunch and the economy shrank. In the early '80s and the early '90s recession led to mass unemployment. This time people stayed in work, but did less.

That makes sense, but why is it continuing?

    Anyway, goodnight all....

In some possible branches of the future we will leave and in some possible branches we will stay. What more could any free thinker want.

A shame to think what 2015 - 2020 could have been. We could have been dealing with low productivity and the nation's poor technical skills level. Instead Brexit consumes all.

Volvo to stop making ICE-only cars from 2019 in favour of hybrids. The market agrees with Corbyn!

No, I just wondered how it could be ascribed to Brexit if it was seen in other countries too.

You miss my poin. The unionist parties have spent an entire week (aided by the UBC) telling everybody that Scotland was on the brink of recession despite employment being at an all time high and unemployment at a 30 year low.

Working themselves into a lather they bet the political farm on pinning the blame on the possibility of indy ref 2. Now there arguments have been confounded in spectacular style they retreat into silence.

Their flush is well and truly busted.

Because indyref2 is no longer on the table. :p

Less fanfare, but probably of more significance than the Volvo news:
