Some good news on British exports:

    http://blogs.wsj.com/chinarealtime/2013/07/03/chinese-video-sites-embrace-british-invasion/

"That puts British shows at the top an increasingly snobbish pop-cultural hierarchy in China — described by local media as the “disdain chain.” (鄙视链 in Chinese) – in which British drama fans look down on fans of American shows, who themselves look down on Korean soap fans, who in turn look down on fans of domestic dramas."

Potentially better news for British exports is that the PM has woken up and recognised that his idiot migration cap has been crippling an export sector with huge growth potential, British education.

So will he have the guts to admit it and face down the xenophobes who encouraged his idiocy?
The obvious thing to do is just to tweak all the obscure rules and implementation details so he doesn't have to do a u-turn. Since we're down to the last two years until the election and the figures will lag a bit he probably doesn't need to worry about the targets any more.

Even when immigration comes down he doesn't get any thanks for it poitically, the paranoid just bugger off to UKIP anyway.

And the growth potential is massive, not just in English language schools, FE colleges, sports music and specialist art colleges, but think of the average sixth form in a state school.
They are usually struggling to get enough A level students per subject, so collaborate with other schools in the area to increase their subject base.
Can you imagine anything better than having a couple of dozen students from China, India, Brazil, turkey etc coming in to those schools to learn?
We've seen the benefits for British children of immigration in London on education standards, particularly poorer pupils, as people with a high emphasis on education come into the classroom.
And think of the long term goodwill and trade links these people would take away with them and leave our country to benefit from and exploit.

And it's all possible if one man has the guts to just stand up and say

"My name is David Cameron, and I have been an idiot"

Perhaps when many decide to stay on, legally or illegally, then you could house them in the 1.2 million £100,000 houses that you seem to think will be the " core of Labours economic policy".

Or do you now admit that was stupid?

Nicola Sturgeon on the Scottish news tonight proudly announcing that the 'right to buy' time had come and gone. And with it this announcement, came the end of the aspirations of a few hundred thousand Scots who might have otherwise hoped to get themselves onto the housing ladder in this way in the future as the SNP raised the draw bridge up before they could get on it. What a typically retrograde step from our Scottish SNP Government.

But the real irony of this evening news report had to be the sight of the late Mrs Thatcher getting about the positive media coverage she has ever had in about thirty years in Scotland. :) It was highlighted that the biggest uptake of her flag ship policy had been in fact in Scotland, around half a million took her up on the offer over the years. And this saw Scotland going from being predominantly a country of renters to home owners.

Yes a real bonus, sold off the family silver , squandered the money and now we pay private landlords a fortune in housing benefit rather than spending peanuts on upkeep of social housing. So unless you got the free benefit of someone elses money from the state it is as good as Brown's great PFI wheeze. Both have cost us dearly and will continue to do so for generations to come.
Thank goodness we have some sane people in charge for a change.

"The full impact of mass immigration on British life was laid bare last night by a Home Office report.
It said that half the population lives in a town or city which has experienced high levels of immigration over the past decade.
Ministers said this ‘uncontrolled’ flow had caused a number of problems for wider society, ranging from pressure on maternity services, high rates of infectious diseases and a squeeze on school places, to disproportionate levels of some types of crime, inflated rents and immigrants living in ‘beds in sheds’.
