I live in Ogmore... The sheer amount of Labour paraphernalia and attempts to contact have been huge. No mention of Corbyn on any of the 6 letters/leaflets that I have received. Token effort from everyone else really, plaid are the only others who attempted to come to the door.
Alex Salmond has suggested the appointment of Boris Johnson as prime minister could be the "material change of circumstances" that triggers another independence referendum.

So we can add that to 'if there's an 'r' in the month'......
I thought we had cleared this up. Cameron ordering two lumps in his tea, rather than one, is the minimum threshold for a "material change of circumstances".
"David Cameron has 'no intention' of apologising to Donald Trump for calling him stupid"
Yet another sign that Dave isn't intending to stick around as Prime Minister for very much longer? You simply can't say things like that about a potential incoming US President, even if you think them.

Dave showing its him that is stupid. We spent the last eight year with a president in the white house that doesn't like this country, and Dave is working hard to make it last another eight years. The man is a fool.
O/T Does it really matter how the campaigns went for each party? Just so long as "administrative errors" are avoided by failure to declare the costs of purchasing chocolate hob nobs for use on the campaign buses.

That would be a quantitative change, but not enough to bring about a quantitative change. Thus there would be insufficient stimulus to the development of political consciousness beyond the background level of minimal activity at which it now exists.

I agree, bizarre, arrogant behaviour.
Lol - for the Brexiteers on here any excuse to kick Cameron - everything is viewed through the prism of Europe. Naff and pathetic.
Here in Sheffield Brightside and Hillsborough, I've had a couple of leaflets from Labour inviting me to cast five votes for them: three for the council, one for the police commissioner, and one for the new MP. I've also had one leaflet each from the liberals, the conservatives, and UKIP, and seen two or three election posters up in windows.
Overall though, there's been very little visible campaigning - no more than in a normal local election.

To be fair arrogance would be Cameron flying to the USA and urging the citizens to vote for a US president that wished to have the laws of the USA decided in Vera Cruz while allowing freedom of movement under El Scheng

On the contrary, I (and others I suspect) have gained respect for Cameron for refusing to pretend he now likes a divisive demagogue just because he's a presidential candidate.
Anyway, the Leave campaign have assured us that it doesn't matter what the US president thinks of us

Off to vote in the PCC election before work. It is our only election locally, and nothing from any candidate. A very poor show.

10's of thousands of immigrants etc... politicians lie shocker.
Several cars driving around Edinburgh yesterday evening with SNP flags mounted on them. Quite professionally done, clearly a kit rather than a home made job. Other than that and some leaflets through the door, however, this has been a peculiarly low key election with nothing like the fervour of either the referendum or even of the GE. We had one set of Tory canvassers very early on but nothing since.
I think this is mainly because the result is a foregone conclusion. Everyone knows we are heading for another SNP majority. I expect them to get a majority from the constituency seats alone. The battle for second place may excite some political activists but the majority of the public really don't care about that.
I think there is a good chance that the Tories, sorry Ruths, will pick up maybe 10 additional seats tonight. Quite an achievement but the bar is set at second and that is a very big ask. London does not count until tomorrow and is equally a foregone conclusion. Where is the excitement that will make it worth staying up late tonight? Wales?

I'd say it is less stupid than insulting someone who is already US president.
As I recall Cameron took issue with Trump when the latter started talking about excluding Muslims - not Islamists or Jihadists but all Muslims, regardless of who they were or what they had done - from the US. Cameron was quite right to speak out against such treatment of law-abiding British citizens.

32, during which time he did of course vote against the Labour Party more than the current Conservative leader did.
He was not outside the party but he was undoubtedly outside the core leadership group that normally arranges these things. Despite that, he stormed the leadership by a far more convincing margin than Trump has.
My point that he has no qualities of leadership, no ability or charisma therefore seems to me to be valid. People appear to he furious with old leadership elites in the aftermath of the depression and turning to any candidate who isn't from them, no matter how preternaturally useless they are (cf Tsipras).
I suppose we should be grateful that so far they've stuck to the idiots and that the far right hasn't risen. But with events in Greece and Austria plus the collapse of the French mainstream, I'm worried that's not far away.
I heard about this once or twice in my Care Home Inspecting days. Would have advised the Home to a) change and b) complain if it had been one of “mine”, Changing could be difficult, though, if all other local GP’s refused to accept new patients. It wasn’t unusual to find that individual GP’s would only accept two or three patients from any home.

Indigo You are entitled to your opinion..How will Trump kick out 9 million illegals....stop all Muslims entering the States...that is spectacularly stupid......we could keep this up all day..
Don't have to listen to me, try the Washington Post, hardly a Trump cheerleader:
A first-time candidate, he systematically dismantled Rick Perry, Scott Walker, Jeb Bush, Chris Christie and Marco Rubio -- to name just a few. And, even amid the relentless media coverage of whether Trump had peaked or whether his moment had passed, he led the race virtually wire to wire. He won in the Midwest, the West, the South and the East. He won among very conservative voters and moderate voters. He won and won and won.
But take nothing away from what Trump has accomplished in this Republican primary. It is, simply put, the single most amazing thing I have seen in my 18 years of covering politics.
As I recall Cameron took issue with Trump when the latter started talking about excluding Muslims - not Islamists or Jihadists but all Muslims, regardless of who they were or what they had done - from the US. Cameron was quite right to speak out against such treatment of law-abiding British citizens.
Correct. This was during his "we'll stop all Muslims from coming to the United States until we know what the hell is going on" phase where Trump was simply and successfully focussed on dominating the headlines and excluding all the other republican candidates from media attention. It worked and proved to be far from stupid.
I think he has moved on and purports to have some idea of what is going on now. This really is a complete non story.
Indigo..I thought we were discussing Trumps stupidity..How about "WMD and 45 minutes to fire" "I have seen Incontrovertible proof of WMD".."The end of Boom and Bust".."Absolutely no Antisemitism in the Labour Party"....gonna be a long day.

Inside is definitely out. I can't remember the precise wording but the area outside is a grey zone and the nature of the campaigning should be taken into account. The voter should have no cause to feel intimidated.
O/T On Sky News paper review, they were all having a laugh about the senior police officers having a punch up at a BBQ over an affair. Interesting that no-one thought about the sexist ramifications of this.

Exactly, everything Cameron does is for effect, part of the plan.
I couldn't really hold him in lower esteem but I would if he apologised. The irony is in him calling somebody else divisive.
I quite like Trump but if Cameron thinks he's stupid he should stand by it.
Let's hope this is the beginning of a trend where faux outrage and looking to be insulted on behalf of others dies out.
I think Cameron is divisive, I don't think he's stupid, I'm not going to apologise.
Wasn't it that Cameron said that Trump's *policy* re muslims enterin the country was stupid, divisive and wrong? Which it is. He might have worded it clumsily but it's obvious that was the meaning.

Yes, that's exactly my point, no need to apologise, stand by what you say.

Even that is playing with fire, better to say nothing and let your outriders take any pot shots that seem appropriate, so that you can disown the comment if it becomes an embarrassment. With thousands of returning ISIS fighters we have an unknown future as far as islamic terrorism in the UK.
Indigo.. the day I rely on newspapers to help me form an opinion will hopefully be my last day on the planet
Unnerving image there.
"Oh, God, I think he's going." "No, look, he's saying something!" "....give me...give me... a Daily Mail and a Guardian...I need help to decide my opinions today..."

Cameron is right to stand up for the right of law-abiding British muslims to enjoy the same immigration rights as any other British citizen. We should not collude in other countries' racist policies.
blackburn 63... Difficult... I don't read any papers with the intention of gleaning information..I just flick across the headlines. to see what the daily topic is.. and from where..and I haven't bought a paper for the last ten years..

The way the industry's going, I think not a few of us may out-live print editions. Alas.
Good morning, with the news just in, that the newspaper New Day is to close after just 9 weeks of operation. (BBC)
Newspapers going the way of Golliwogs and the Dodo.
It will be a sad day when they all disappear and we have only electronic gizmos clicked to ones lug'oles for the news. What will the cartoonists do I wonder?
It was obvious on the day it was launched that New Day was not going to last. We discussed it on here. The whole thing was developed on the back of focus groups that said they'd definitely buy newspapers that were optimistic and did not shove opinions down readers' throats. Of course they would :-D
Their advertising was a dog too - all yummy mummy homeworkers, a very patronising one about *old people* not wanting to change unlike their enlightened upbeat readers, and the quality of the paper being much nicer. Just awful. I was mesmerised by it. They're only selling 44k a day. IIRC it started at about 200k at half price.
The changes are from the last poll but the comparison should really be from the last election where the SNP got 45 and 44 in the constituency and list votes respectively, Labour 32 and 26, Tories 14 and 12 and the Lib Dems 8 and 5.
So the SNP are up on the constituencies and down on the list. Labour are seriously down on both and the Tories are up significantly, albeit from a catastrophically low base. Swing from Labour to Tory is 7.5%. Apply that to somewhere like Eastwood or Dumfriesshire and there is some room for optimism if the SNP don't spoil it all.

Goodnight.

So we can add that to 'if there's an 'r' in the month'......
"David Cameron has 'no intention' of apologising to Donald Trump for calling him stupid"
Yet another sign that Dave isn't intending to stick around as Prime Minister for very much longer?
You simply can't say things like that about a potential incoming US President, even if you think them.
Does it really matter how the campaigns went for each party? Just so long as "administrative errors" are avoided by failure to declare the costs of purchasing chocolate hob nobs for use on the campaign buses.

Overall though, there's been very little visible campaigning - no more than in a normal local election.
Anyway, the Leave campaign have assured us that it doesn't matter what the US president thinks of us
Off to vote in the PCC election before work. It is our only election locally, and nothing from any candidate. A very poor show.
Can't quite believe I need to write that in 2016 but there you go.
If so, how, exactly would you enforce it?
I had to google for the manifestos at 9pm last night to work out how was standing and who to go for.
The box when you edit is also showing only 2 sentences in view and cannot be expanded.

Can't remember rules on this.

I have been a critic of Cameron since he got the job, its has nothing to do with the EU, and everything to do with him being an unprincipled liar.
Wales?
Gloria Leicesterfan.
(S'kay .....already have me coat on)
He was not outside the party but he was undoubtedly outside the core leadership group that normally arranges these things.
Changing could be difficult, though, if all other local GP’s refused to accept new patients. It wasn’t unusual to find that individual GP’s would only accept two or three patients from any home.

Why does a woman want/need a man to defend her 'honour'?
Where is the woman's right to choose?
Does this not smack (pun) of 'ownership'?
Just a thought
You gave examples of some things that Trump had promised he had no way of delivering, I was pointing out that our own leader has more than a certain track record in that regard and that it wasn't exactly an unusual behaviour in a politician.
It's been very low key even by local election standards.

I couldn't really hold him in lower esteem but I would if he apologised. The irony is in him calling somebody else divisive.

All would point to a comfortable Labour hold.

A few weeks ago some were saying Dave is Obama's poodle etc.
Now Dave stands up to a potential POTUS, he's an idiot, un-First Lord of the Treasury.
The logic chopping of Leavers is awesome.
Now wish me luck, I have to knock up some voters
1. Leaflets delivered through my letter box: None.
2. Posters seen down my street: None.
3. large posters seen in my area: None.
....and that's it Ladies and Gentlemen. Like a New Day newspaper, posters, leaflets are all being quietly junked,at least for this election.
........But I haven't seen a leaflet or a poster for the EuroRef either.
