    Jesus wept part II

A Labour parliamentary candidate who was suspended for suggesting ISIS should attack Israel has been readmitted to the party. In 2014 Vicki Kirby, then Labour’s candidate in Woking, was exposed by the Sunday Times for writing that Hitler was the “Zionist God” in a string of insane tweets, even asking why ISIS isn’t attacking Israel, who she described as “the real oppressors”

    http://order-order.com/2016/03/14/candidate-who-suggested-isis-should-attack-israel-readmitted-to-labour/

    Bloody hell.

And I'm someone with a record of voting for what could variously be described as the left/hard-left/far-left including for JC.

But I absolutely detest socialising with lefties (at least, from that part of the left-wing spectrum) because aside from the self-righteousness and smug certainties, the loon ratio (even if it's someone who is utterly reasonable about most of their positions, but has one or two "pet" topics) is infuriating.
I've found myself in a social circle that involves a few of these types. I was chatting to a rather meek lady the other night who is part of the local anarchist network. They were very excited because Jeremy Corbyn was coming to town and they were keen to photobomb him with anarchist flags in the background. Apparently the 'anarchists for Corbyn' is a big joke online.

I couldn't work out what the purpose was - a satirising of the right wing media's demonisation of Jezza? - but it did make me wonder how committed these people really were to politics and changing things or if it was just an opportunity for a bunch of 'artists' wanting to express themselves and their originality.
Several people I knew (independently of one another, and most of them didn't know each other) went to an SWP demo where, amongst other things, they chanted at the Met that "the police are the real racists!"

Though one of them reported some doubt on this point to me, bearing in mind everyone he could see at the demo was white, but (and I understand this is not especially representative of the force as a whole) quite a lot of the police officers present were from ethnic minority backgrounds.

Straw man. You could say the same about reintroducing the death penalty with MPs.

The basic premise is idiotic, the FBI want Apple to put a key under the door mat, and expect that key to be only used by nice people. If backdoors are made you can bet the Chinese and Russian state security apparatus will make full use of the facility. You can't create vulnerabilities in systems and then expect them to be only used by the good guys. If the bad guys used the same loopholes to gain access to your bank details and commit fraud or identity theft on a grand scale there would be hell to pay. Even were the FBI right (which they are not) it is surely the responsible case of an organisation like Apple to test fully in court the extent to which they give potential access to tens of millions of peoples personal details.

Time to go balls deep on Remain winning a landslide now, result will be close to 80/20 in Remain's favour.

Andy Burnham is betting on a Brexit win

    Mr. Indigo, quite.

It's not unlike the secret passage into Nottingham Castle being used not for escape but to break in. It was this way that Edward III's allies rescued him from the de facto ruler, Sir Roger Mortimer, who was promptly executed.

Regarding the Apple/FBI situation. Bruce Schneier is the man to follow, he is both an expert in security and encryption, having written several of the most commonly used encryption algorithms, and a Privacy Advocate. Here is his take on the case

    https://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2016/02/decrypting_an_i.html
What the FBI wants to do would make us less secure, even though it's in the name of keeping us safe from harm. Powerful governments, democratic and totalitarian alike, want access to user data for both law enforcement and social control. We cannot build a backdoor that only works for a particular type of government, or only in the presence of a particular court order.

I am not sure how any government is going to ban "math". It isn't like terrorists are going to obey the law not to jailbreak their phone and install an app that isn't in the appstore because it is illegal.

I expect that the security services would be delighted to have such a clear and easily-detectable clue that a particular device is worth tracking.
Yes because no one jail breaks their phones to install cracked games or even backup software that works properly.
As many as 7.5 percent of iPhone users (30-34 million) globally have jailbroken their devices. In some regions such as China, this figure is somewhat higher than the global average. The latest numbers (from Marble Security) estimated that roughly 13 percent of Chinese iPhone users run jailbroken devices

Indeed. Although quite a few use a VPN because their ISP has stupid routing. If I used my ISP to talk to the UK directly I would route across the Pacific, land at San Francisco, route across the US, then across the Atlantic, and finally get to London. Where as on my VPN I route Singapore then direct London on my VPN providers private circuit... which roughly halves my ping rate for gaming :)

Serbian authorities are investigating reports that a US-bound cargo package containing two laser-guided missiles was found on a passenger airline.

N1 television said the two AGM-114 Hellfire missiles were discovered on Saturday by a sniffer dog after an Air Serbia flight from Beirut landed at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport.

Serbian state news agency Tanjug reported that the missiles, which cost around $110,000 each, had been packed inside wooden crates. Documents with the package listed the final destination for the package as Portland, Oregon.

Quite, but the trick is "making things a bit more difficult" without wrecking a couple of decades of careful work by many security experts trying to stop the bad guys making off with our personal details.

Off topic.Happy punting for 4 days at Cheltenham. It's the one time of the year, punters have the odds in their favour. The Tote market is very strong and with the various offers available the off-course markets can even be an underround. Each way punting makes more sense too with a quarter the odds on all races. There's some very profitable long-term trends, the first being back the 1st 2 in the market for the 1st race currently just under evens the pair.

I think she's got a big problem. The latest Missouri, Illinois and Ohio polls are all sharply eating into her lead. Now Illinois will stay Democrat and Missouri will stay GOP in November (Most likely), but there are alot of other swing states up there. That's why this tuesday is so interesting. @GuardianAnushka: Tom Watson gets urgent question on Queen and Gove this afternoon. He's not letting go

Nonce Finder General has found a new cause...he's never wrong this lad.
Its a bit odd. The NFG tables the question. The PM stands up, says "No" and sits down again. then where does he go, it's not like there is going to be a surfeit of solid evidence about who said or heard what at the Privy Council.

Off topic: have the Corbynistas come out in protest at the McDonnell betrayal? Already talking about living within our means, balancing budgets etc etc. Sounds like Ed Balls to me, and we know he's a Red Tory.

Will it be Dave replying? If it is a Privy Counsel matter, then Chris Grayling will be replying as Lord President of the Privy Counsel?

I think it might be a case of Premature posting by Mike.

    Happens to us all.

If the competition was restricted to those who have currently entered I would probably have an excellent chance of being in the top 5. Just saying.

So George Galloway's supporters only have to vote an average of 34 times each? Piece of cake.

The worrying thing about the UK govt is that they don't seem to understand it. Our leaders are remarkably ill informed.

Nonsense. They are advised by GCHQ, and nothing is more absurd than the armchair security experts who think they know more than GCHQ does about surveillance.
I don't think anybody really believes the public claims that the US security services can't get into an iPhone. It is more to do with time and effort. It is already on record that they have cracked far more complex systems such as mainstream VPN technology and encrypted Web connections...it is just they take a lot of heavy lifting.
Isn't there an ur-conspiracy theory along the lines that NSA/GCHQ cracked quantum computing a while ago and so no commercially available encryption works?
