    Total Idiocy.

It's certainly total idiocy to blame Nicky Morgan for an individual decision that will have been made about 10,000 grades below her.
Based on policies she set. Politicians set policies, officials carry them out, the buck stops on her desk.
Not so. Ministers are not involved in that level of detail and you forget she's only been in post a few weeks. Conclusion: Your comment was idiotic.
That isnt how Edward Leigh MP sees it. He objected to her to the policies she was implementing, read the article.

You're in good company with Sir Edward - he's not the sharpest pencil in the box either.
An interesting view of a MP that was chairman of the Public Accounts Committee for a decade.

There's a mahoosive typo/mistake in the Survation release.

    Anyone else spotted it?

Instead of UKIP did they put PDTP (pig dog traitor party)??

    .... I'll get my coat.
I asked Damian to do that, but alas no.

    The typo is this

    Under data weighting it says

Data were (sic) weighted to the profile of all adults in Rochester & Strood constituency.

Ashcroft sampled Stockton between 26/6 and 4/7. The new numbers are broadly consistent with the Lab-Con swingback since then.

Not really, the numbers are very similar with the Ashcroft poll.
And the tiny difference could be due to methodology.
The weighted base is less than 600. Margin of error is bigger than difference between the two polls.

Anyone care to calculate what the margin of error is on the 2010 Lib Dem subsample?
The Lib Dems swinging to the Tories in THIS seat makes sense.
It might do, but there's an inconsistency between the subsamples in the two polls. The Lib Dem 2010 splits in the two polls are,

Ashcroft: Con 8%, Lab 48%, LibDem 33%, UKIP 10% [weighted base of 49]
Survation: Con 25%, Lab 35%, LibDem 31%, UKIP 3% [weighted base of 37]

Interesting difference that Survation name the candidates for the "big four" parties, whereas Ashcroft appeared not to. Incumbency effect?

Maybe, but with a margin of error of > 12% (for a 90% confidence interval) it's impossible to be sure. Need more data.

And total idiocy to say the school was graded 'good' and not 'outstanding' because it is 'too English'. The report simply doesn't say that and to use quotes is thoroughly misleading. The school was not rated outstanding on any single criteria but should be congratulated for bettering it's 'needs improvement' assessment rather than being dragged into this row.

Don't think anyone has been arguing about that, just about what Nicky Morgan's role in this was/is.
Indigo labelled the state of affairs described in the Daily Mail quote as 'total idiocy'. I'm simply pointing out that the Daily Mail report is wholly misleading. A debate whether Nicky Morgan is responsible for something that hasn't happened seems somewhat pointless.

I'd like to think that we all knew our Hydras from our Hydrangeas. Hard to see how even Doctor Who could make an episode out of that, but it would still be better than the disappointing Atlantis.

Having taught for many years I can assure you that facility with numbers does not necessarily correlate well with understanding the nuances of OFSTED. None of which affects the thrust of my remark that it is quite idiotic to pretend that a SOS should be held personally responsible for an individual inspection report.

Quite right. The report never said the school was 'too English'; that remark came from one of the parents, presumably in response to a loaded question from a reporter at The Daily Hate. Rabble-rousing journalism at its worst!

I wonder how many mostly Asian schools there are where Ofsted has criticised them for not interacting with enough white people.

Of course, that doesn't happen, because the modern British state has a complete double standard in how it treats white people and non-white people.

Just watched Ed V Myleene and I thought Ed was fine. Myleene on the other hand would have given Marie Antoinette pause for thought. Whether it'll do her any professional damage depends on what she wants to do. She'll certainly take a hammering from UK comedians which might be an intro to a bit part on Ab fab I suppose

Of course, that doesn't happen, because the modern British state has a complete double standard in how it treats white people and non-white people.

Interesting that the comments seem less than complementary to UKIP. But Cornwall is a very easy going, rurally bohemian sort of place - unreceptive, I'd have thought, to the pinstripe-and-golf-club establishment right-wingery of the Kippers.

Data were (sic) weighted to the profile of all adults in Rochester & Strood constituency.

    http://survation.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Stockton-South-TTIP-Full-Tables.pdf
Leaving aside the clanger, "were" is supposedly grammatically correct with "data" since "data" is a plural word. So say the purists, though it seems as silly to me now as insisting on the plural with "news".
It should be "Data was weighted"

"Data were weighted" just looks wrong and against all laws of God and nature.

When I become the country's First Directly Elected Dictator, I shall create the Ministry of Grammar and Pedantry, to correct the truly awful things done to the English language.
Hmm, I may need to see you in action on such matters before deciding if I need to rebel against your otherwise no doubt excellent rule - there are many things that some people regard as terrible crimes done to the English language which it could well be argued are simply ignoring arbitrary archaisms (or rather, not so archaic given when some of them were imposed).

On the other hand, if 'awful things' includes absurd overuse of semi-colons, I may just have to emigrate.

Obviously the Stockton poll could be an outlier - it's only one poll and individual constituency polls are always a bit difficult.

But if it is right it would surely be the best poll for Con since 2010 - a small swing from Lab to Con since the 2010 GE. Pretty extraordinary.
