This Scottish play by Anas Sarwar to try and oust Sir Keir Starmer feels like a tipping point but only if Westminster cabinet members follow or others such as the Welsh First Minster, and metro mayors.

    Am told Eluned Morgan, First Minister of Wales, is going to follow Anas Sarwar in calling for the PM to stand down;

    Also that there will be "Scottish MP ministerial resignations" afterwards

    Ministers saying it's the end game...

    It would be fitting if this ends with Starmer calling a suicide election. The thing they thought Boris might try to save his skin but was too frit is how SKS chooses to go down

    Unless UK Cabinet Ministers start resigning and calling for Starmer to go it doesn't really matter what the secretary of their Scottish branch office says, especially as under his leadership Labour are now polling even worse in Scotland than in the UK overall

    Sidebar, but: Starmer is meant to go to the Munich Security Conference at the end of the week.

    Either he stays in post, and jets off just as he needs to steady the buffs at home - or the world meets in Munich with no British PM

He's just been bewildered by a job that is beyond him because he has almost no political skills at all. Its a tough old job being PM of a country that is full of entitlements and empty of cash and people with a more political ear have also struggled. I just wish once he had decided he saw a chance to become PM that he had given some thought as to what he might want to do. Its not an end in itself. Ask Gordon Brown.

    Cabinet ministers shouldn't have to resign to get the PM to do so. They should be able to simply tell him his time is up, and if enough of them do so he goes.

    It's a terrible innovation that they have to resign, as it's yet another indication of the erosion of Cabinet government, and that, as Cabinet ministers, they're all stooges of the PM.

    It gives Britain Presidential politics grafted onto a Parliamentary system. It's an awful mess.

    “Keir Starmer is one of only four Labour leaders ever to have won a general election.

    “He has a clear five-year mandate from the British people to deliver change, and that is what he will do.”

    Labour is so dysfunctional they can't even manage a denfenestration without the whole window falling out onto the viewers below.

    If no one backs him, Sarwar will be cooked.

    NEW: Health Secretary Wes Streeting, doorstepped by reporters in Westminster, and asked if he has full confidence in Sir Keir Starmer refuses to reply.

    Rebuilding Britain takes time. But thanks to the decisions we've made NHS waiting lists are falling. Inflation is falling. Interest rates are falling. The conditions for the economy to grow are there.

    With Keir as our Prime Minister we are turning the country around.

    It would be fitting if this ends with Starmer calling a suicide election. The thing they thought Boris might try to save his skin but was too frit is how SKS chooses to go down

    Hope so. There's a popcorn maker on olio I've been eyeing up

    💥Very senior Scottish Labour source tells me this move by Sarwar is “idiocy, immature, incoherent and self defeating. Bad for the country, playing into our opponents hands, and without any idea of an end game.”

    Moment of real peril for Labour north and south of border.
    @SkyNews

    Alternatively, Sarwar can see that Labour is going to be marmalised in May in Scotland, so they have nothing more to lose and quite a lot to gain, if Skyr goes and they can get in a replacement who talks human

    Critics of Sarwar are basically saying “no, just climb out of the trench and walk towards the German machine guns. Don’t run”
    Yes, Sarwar has nothing to lose and at least a little to gain. SLAB are going to get stomped and he knows it, so this neatly deflects at least some of the blame for that.
    if Starmer survives this putsch, will he have the power to sack Sarwar? Surely Sarwar will have to go one way or another, if Starmer endures

    Either way Starmer will be gone by the end of the summer, if not the end of the day

    Sarwar can now say he tried his hardest but Mandelson was a distraction that cost him votes and seats in the Scottish elections.

    In reality it’s allowed him to pin the forthcoming May issues on SKS rather than his leadership

    Not without justification IMO. I think there would have been a decent chance he ended up FM if Starmer had done a decent job. SNP have been in government since 2007, it's frankly ridiculous that Labour can't mount a challenge against a record that long.

    Morgan now not expected to make a statement today, @ProducerOllie & @breeallegretti report, but three sources told The Times she held the same view as Sarwar.

    “They’re on the same page when it comes to Keir’s future,” one said.
