    No.

I've just splashed out on my dinner. I'm making a monkfish and king prawn curry

I heat ghee, add cumin seeds and black mustard seeds. Once they start popping I add fresh sliced garlic and ginger. A couple of minutes and some stirring later I throw in chopped spring onions, then sliced red peppers

When the peppers are cooking I liberally add chilli powder (fresh chilli works well too, but I didn't want leftover chilli) and a good squeeze from a lime. Then add the monkfish and the prawns. Just before they're cooked I stir in a couple of tablespoons of crème fraiche and chopped chives and coriander, heat up again and serve with rice

I'm listening to Joy Of Cooking, an awesome band from the early 70s

That does sound excellent. How small to you make the monkfish pieces?

Monkfish is ace. And that sounds epic.

Was out for a work related Christmas dinner on Friday. A dry mousse with a single bit of biscuit/bread, beef bourguignonne and a bit of cake with some fruit (possibly the best bit of the meal). Company was excellent, food, not even ordinary. Quite disappointing.

Off topic, but your discussion of banks made me wonder whether UK banks have ATMs with this feature: The ATM at my local Chase branch will accept checks -- and cash. I use the first occasionally. (By using my bank card, I can get into where the ATM is, even when the bank is closed.)

Bonnie Blue will fit in well.

She's just been deported from somewhere again - in this case Bali, for making pornography illegally. Very Yaxley-Lennon, and those guys love deporting people.

She did it before in Australia. And has the habit of trolling around looking for "barely legal" boys.

She's going to need to watch her boundaries, at least in the UK.

Seems to be a standard thing inside UK bank branches - 1/2 counters, a dozen machines is quite common.

The machines do cheques, cash deposit etc etc

Carl Reiner gave Rob Reiner a copy of The Princess Bride, and Rob Reiner loved it and its father/son love story so much he turned it into a movie (with a grandfather and grandson). Three days before Carl’s death in 2020, he and Rob reenacted the final scene and “As you wish”

The speech by MI6 boss pretty clear and trenchant.

    Here's an extract:

"But there’s something distinctive that will make this change unlike any other: the impact of advanced technologies, which will accelerate the pace and scale of every threat and opportunity, and increasingly, individualise them too. Advances in artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and quantum computing are not only revolutionising economies but rewriting the reality of conflict, as they ‘converge’ to create science-fiction-like tools.

"There’s incredible promise in all this for all of us, from green technologies to hyper-personalised medicine. But also peril. AI-powered robots and drones are brilliant for scaled manufacturing but devastating on the battlefield. Discoveries that cure disease can also create new weapons. And as states race for tech supremacy, or as some algorithms become as powerful as states, those hyper-personalised tools could become a new vector for conflict and control.

"Power itself is becoming more diffuse, more unpredictable as control over these technologies is shifting from states to corporations, and sometimes to individuals."

So it's us against the oligarchs! I think we probably need the Avengers to prevail in the new environment.

Monkfish is a really ugly fish. Not so noticeable when a fillet of course. The useful characteristic is a very firm flesh, which means you can fry it like meat in curries etc as Blanche is doing.

Who is this Bonnie Blue person? Does anyone have a link?

The daily mail doesn’t approve of her but gives her acres of newspaper to tell her story.

From all angles. As it were.

Off topic, but your discussion of banks made me wonder whether UK banks have ATMs with this feature: The ATM at my local Chase branch will accept checks -- and cash. I use the first occasionally. (By using my bank card, I can get into where the ATM is, even when the bank is closed.)

In general ATMs accepting cheques are inside branches. The problem here it seems is that the bank has stopped processing cheques through third parties including post offices, and also the multibank "banking hubs" set up to maintain service in towns where they have closed branches.

Lack of joined up thinking in short.
It's conceivable, but not likely, that you'll be able to pay in a cheque by making an appointment with the bank's rep on their day at the Banking Hub premises.
With Starling Bank you pay in a cheque by taking a photo of it with the app.
Lloyds and Halifax app has been doing that since 2018.
I'm aware of this, but what happens to the cheque afterwards?

I'm surprised that they haven't handed out a Pro version of their standard mobile app to hub staff.

Back in 2015 or so Lloyds found their online browser app had better functionality than the standard branch systems so they rolled it out to the branches. Now the mobile app has more functionality than the online app, I would have thought the obvious route would be to roll an extended version that out to staff too.

You keep it for 6 months (in case it is ever challenged).

When first mooted the big concern of course was what if a cheque is submitted twice. Or a fake cheque is submitted.

But in the former case the system just rejects the second attempt (cheque number). Fake cheques? That risk and the mitigation is the same as when cheques were sent off to central clearing - wait for the cheque to clear through the issuing bank, transactions can be reversed if necessary.

I'd never even heard of Rob Reiner, so it's not that I was a fan of his, but what kind of person would say such a thing at this time? A true lack of class

I used to enjoy very much a monkfish in St Malo where they served it in a crepe with a light curry sauce. The monkfish was cut to large bite size. Having remade it and other similar monkfish dishes is cut it to how you would cut chicken for a curry, just to whatever your preference is or what you think would suit your guests, there is no ideal way. Just adjust the cooking time to factor the size in.

I propose the following. All communications between public servants shall be conducted on a government run platform.

I could get a fork of Signal ready for this, for a few million, in 3 months.

All communications will be archived and recorded.

But unfortunately we only have one in Newark:

and another one in Edwinstowe with a swordsman seducing a lady through dance:
