Zelensky should tell him to shove his deal.

I know the realpolitik probably means Ukraine has to play ball here, and hope. But god how depressing.

Not their fault. The genuine pukka Roman Army had Legio VIIII Hispana. Stamped it on everything. Including the bloody floor.

Unbelievable. even by Trump 2.0 clownshow standards.

Why are they arguing with him live on TV?

I suppose Trump thinks the whole presidency is just another episode of Apprentice.
Trump has the excuse of being old and obviously gaga.

Vance really ought to be booking a long appointment at the confessional.

(Do they have separate queues for big confessions, as opposed to five sins or less?)
There was a clip played on the BBC yesterday from Trump during his first term; he was markedly more cogent back then, even if we wouldn’t have said so at the time.

    They’re behaving like teenagers.

A lot of Americans are going to be embarrassed, mortified, horrified.
Sadly, very sadly, a lot are not!

Only one thing for it, Zelensky will need to challenge Trump to play the piano with his penis like a bit he did when was he was a comedian, only telling Trump he did it for real to make the latter do it properly.

If Starmer wants to win the next election and the King wants to turn me into a monarchist they have to cancel the state visit after that Oval Office disgrace.

After this the invitation should be summarily withdrawn

Trump just said this is great television !!!!!
This is what I mean. Trump 2.0 presidency makes more sense as just a continuous episode of some sick reality tv show where every day they have some hot hits that fire up the audience. That's how he sees the world.

Yes, it being done in front of the camreas is pretty absurd. It suggests they brought Zelensky there with the intent to publicly humiliate him, more than would already be the case from forcing him to agree a deal it would be obvious was done as a result of being bullied into it.

The USA is already holding the whip hand over Ukraine, there's no need to crack the thing in front of an audience to boot.

As a reminder, at least 50% of americans love it.

If Starmer wants to win the next election and the King wants to turn me into a monarchist they have to cancel the state visit after that Oval Office disgrace.

Well, have they even officially invited yet or merely promised to invite?

It'll still happen though. Ukraine was yesterday's issue, once Trump is done with it it will just be that place the Russians stole land from that everyone feels bad about but can do nothing about.
It won't be yesterday's issue because due to Trump's support, Russia will be advancing on their next target.

Starmer really does need to tell Trump to go fuck himself. And yes. That invitation - which should haver have been made in the first place - needs to be withdrawn. If it isn't then the King needs to make sure he is unavoudably detained when Trump is supposed to be visiting.

But Trump is just so obnoxious, and Vance worse. I think they wanted it to be like Vercingetorix being stripped naked and kissing an eagle standard before Caesar as depicted in the old TV show Rome.

Yesterday not looking quite such a good day for Starmer.

He has now invited for a second state visit to the UK a US President who has just engaged in a shouting match with Zelensky for not grovelling to him enough for a deal while trying to defend his country from Putin. He has gone from Churchill 2 to Neville Chamberlain 2 in 24 hrs

Problem is a lot of his first term Cabinet seemed to think in the same terms, assuming the chaos and incredibly thin skin were theatre, only to discover the way he acts behind closed doors is little different. There was a reason so few of them publicly backed him in 2024, having seen what he was like. The voting public may not have cared about that, prioritising other issues, the idea his erratic personal reactions to things could not derail important things I think has been disproven by time.

Farage agrees with Trump on Ukraine, he does the Corbynite thing of blaming NATO (or the EU) for the war, so could at best claim he would be more polite about things.

I should think he will remain pretty quiet, there's no sign yet that the public are likely to punish him or Reform over foreign policy concerns.

    ‘Appealingly normal’. Yeah right.

What she did was shitty. You don’t help yourself to other peoples stuff especially unopened. I don’t have a high opinion of her anyway and this just reinforces it.
I wasn't commenting on the morals of the specific action, which was a bit of a weird thing to do, but to her general political persona of being pretty ordinary, and sharing a tale where she was a wally can be a part of that. That persona being sincere or fake is somewhat beside the point. The most effective political personas will exaggerate or play up the real personality of the person in question.

I find the level of reaction to the story to be utterly hysterical to be honest.
I haven’t seen anything about this story apart from on here where the consensus seems to be ‘it’s our Ange, a working class hero,m what a card’

I had assumed - especially with Trump's "he drives a hard bargain" comment at the start of yesterday's press conference - that Starmer had extracted some concessions and made clear some red lines in exchange for the state visit invitation.

Yesterday not looking quite such a good day for Starmer.

He has just invited for a second state visit to the UK a US President who has just engaged in a shouting match with Zelensky for not grovelling to him enough for a deal while trying to defend his country from Putin

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/us/politics/2025/02/28/zelensky-trump-meeting-white-house-us/?WT.mc_id=e_DM524873&WT.tsrc=email&etype=Edi_FPM_New&utmsource=email&utm_medium=Edi_FPM_New20250228&utm_campaign=DM524873

Starmer can only correct this by withdrawing the invite

The King cannot welcome Trump now

    Can anyone imagine the demonstrations

Just not acceptable and a case could be made for the invite being offered far too soon anyway
I had assumed - especially with Trump's "he drives a hard bargain" comment at the start of yesterday's press conference - that Starmer had extracted some concessions and made clear some red lines in exchange for the state visit invitation.

Heck, there were people looking forward to a Brilliant Trade Deal with the US a few hours ago.

My (Centre-rightist Dad) take? It was right to offer the state visit yesterday, to go the extra mile. Unless the US government reverse-ferrets pretty quick, it's right to withdraw that invitation, and to explain why.

In short Anglo-Saxon words, if necessary.

Or else he invites Zelensky for a State Visit first and the King also travels to Canada before Trump arrives (I believe they were hoping to confine Trump to Balmoral Estate, Dumfries House and Windsor Castle and keep him out of London anyway)
    Not either

Trump is not fit for a second state visit

Then you didn't see the initial post of it then, since 'what is she like?' is pretty clearly an invitation to criticise, and you're the one who then went on a tear about it being shitty and reinforcing poor opinion of her, and your summary of the consensus is not even slightly borne out by the actual comments made on here - the closest that comes it to is mine (and one from Dixiedean that looks like a joke), and that relies on a misconception of what I was tryting to get across which I've already explained (which was not celebrating her working class credentials, but that she comes across as quite normal, and sharing embarrassing stories can help that).

So I don't know where you are seeing that stuff to justify what seems to be spitting mad fury.,

Another glorious day for the Kremlin.

They must be running out of fucking champagne.

Moscow and Beijing can surely hardly believe their luck. It's not that Trump is compromised, I don't believe that, but he doesn't need to be.

There was a clip I think before he was President talking about american leaders being as bad Russia's, and Bill O'Reilly saying political leaders are not killers in america, and Trump just shrugging it off. Putin loves when Trump says they are no different.

Few Romans would consider the CD bit of "CDXC" an acceptable form, the number should be rendered ccccxc. Like clock faces, iiij was always preferred for 4 but ix was widely used and xl and xc. They didn't even ask about letters with a bar over the top. Some of us learnt these things as nine year olds in a county primary school. Am I the only one who still adds up columns of dozens of these numbers to check the transcript is correct ?

  • Instead of frothing about state visits - the previous one took three years to organise it seems - how about we deal with practicalities.

Time to get rid of triple lock pensions and reduce/reform/replace pension credits and various other welfarism.
