Pouting boy, are you happy that Labour think you are too stupid to spend your own money sensibly?
'YOU CAN'T TRUST PEOPLE TO SPEND THEIR OWN MONEY SENSIBLY' - a senior Labour politician.
Really, that is just GOLD. Every single Tory spin doc in the realm should be on that tomorrow. Hammer it home. Don't let go. Put it on posters. It is immortal. It sums up Labour's deep, concealed contempt for their voters in a sentence. They think their own supporters are thick, nasty, stupid, Illiterate racists, which is why they must never be allowed a say on Europe. Or even a say on their own pensions.
LOL at bloke who is not a labour politician, but an unemployed spin doctor that no-one has heard of says something on newsnight that no-one cares about, nor will hear about, has lost labour the election I would guess.
I have my final salary pension also, which seems to be safe for now due to the Tories accepting the Hutton report. I also have a modest SIPP pension as back up. I do not entirely trust governments not to raid my superannuation.
Currently medical NHS super annuation is a net contributor to the treasury, but if this changes to be a net drain on the exchequer then it may be under threat.
Always have a back up plan*
* no requirement for this if running the YES campaign, as bluff and bluster will do
That does seem to be the case up to £30 000, or a tax free lump sum of a quarter of the total pot. Above that the drawdown rules may mean that you can only withdraw the amount that you would have got from an annuity. It may well be these still exist, but not yet clear.
I had missed the abolition of the 10% rate of tax on savings up to £5 000. That will be useful to pensioners with modest savings.
It does seem as if the drawdown limits will exist with a maximum drawdown rate of 150% of an annuity for next year. The consultation about being able to take the lot and spend, spend spend starts on March 27th.
I have a private SIPP pension with HL.
I have a pension from my *easy years* in the private sector, thinking about it. I need to swot up on retirement I reckon. Those shadows are lengthening.
Plus my public sector feather-bedded gold-plater of course. Dunno what I'm worrying about.
We're still waiting for a report into our pensions to be published, far as I know. A couple of years or so now I think. Lose track. We waited - a year? - for the report on workload. Anyway. To bed before it turns into a pumpkin.
From the Torygraph "As Chandler from Friends might have put it: Could you guys possibly BE any more moronic? And as someone in CCHQ is certainly saying at the moment, looking at the PR wreckage on Twitter: Oh. My. God."

In what sense is John McTernan a senior politician?
He's not. He's a rent-a-gob/PR 'guru' who even little Ed won't have back officially after his disasterous stints in Scotland and Australia but he is known to be close to the 'better together' campaign for No.
He's also not in charge of the CCHQ PR for the coming May elections while the hilariously incompetent Shapps is. Not something the effete posh chaps will understand obviously as they scrabble about for excuses.

Breathtaking.
After all this stuff about Shapps and his bingo tweet, the day ends with a Labour politician making one of the most arrogant and belittling remarks to a voting public in the history of democracy. This will be carved on the Labour Party's tombstone.

Well, that's killed the 'patronizing Shapps and his bingo' attack stone dead. Labour are now sneering at the masses who presume to believe they can manage there own financial affairs. Labour just need this day to end!
It hasn't,they just showed the shapps/bingo tweet on sky news.
a) How many people will see this poster? b) How many Bingo players use twitter?
The bien pensants may think it patronising - beer drinking bingo players, being told the good news, may not.....

Former deputy prime minister Lord Prescott waded into the debate, tweeting: "Families worse off by £1,600 a year. Tory #budget2014 answer? Let them play bingo!"
And shadow health secretary Andy Burnham said the ad reminded him "of Mr Cholmondley-Warner when he asked Grayson to investigate the 'working class'".

A lot of Bingo-ettes play online now either as well or instead because of the smoking ban and they're on facebook as well for the grandkids so they probably will see it if it gets on facebook.
Personally i think the relevant Lab voters might like it but the Ukip equivalent won't but all a guess really - funny though.

I heard an hour of Drive on the way home tonight and I think that Mr Osborne will be very happy with his day's work. The message coming over loud and clear was what Peter Allan was calling "quite depressing". The mess is not fixed and needs many hard decisions still to be taken. The consensus on this went well beyond the usual suspects to pretty much everyone who was qualified to have a view. This really left Labour with nowhere to go and they sounded frankly daft.
I am sure that Osborne and Alexander are determined to frame the next election this way. Alexander was on and exceptionally good, dripping contempt for Labour's position but making it clear that the Lib Dems were committed to this budget settlement. He indicated that they would prefer more tax rises than cuts than the tories in the next Parliament but dismissed the idea that this was the choice as a fantasy.
I should also say that the SNP spokesman, Stuart Hosie I think, came across well. Even the chap from PC made a few good points. Labour really had nothing to say. If they allow this narrative to take hold they are in trouble.
This afternoon, George Osborne just gave what must surely the best ever Budget given by a Tory Chancellor, or perhaps even by any Chancellor! Never has the Conservative tradition in our great nation had such a charismatic luminary! Never has the Right had such a politically astute standard bearer!
Such poise, such alacrity! Wow!
And his repertoire of jokes would put even Harry Hill to shame!
George is supremely confident, articulate, passionate and inspirational, and I hope you will agree with me that he is a refreshing alternative to the smarmy, puffed up posh-boy Ed Miliband!

Danny Alexander: Tory bingo advert 'patronising'
George Osborne's Liberal Democrat deputy in the Treasury joined the chorus of criticism against the Tory bingo advert tweeted by Grant Shapps, saying he thought it was "patronising".
Treasury Chief Secretary Danny Alexander told BBC2's Newsnight:
I thought it was a spoof at first, it's just pretty extraordinary.
It may be our Budget but it's their words, I think it's rather patronising.
Also I think it actually demeans some quite sensible things. There are good reasons to be supporting bingo, there are good reasons to be encouraging our pub sector to be stronger - that's the analysis behind those measures.
This language, well that's for Grant Shapps to justify.
*tears of laughter etc.*
This from the same out of touch old biddies and shriekers who thought the incompetent fop Osbrowne's omnishambes was such a winner.

Problem for Osborne is that he wishes he was like Lawson. The difference is that Lawson possesses a brain.........
Agree that Lawson does indeed posses a brain as can be witnessed by his vehement opposition to the climate warming bollocks.
But even though I am a kipper and have never voted Tory, Osborne is beginning to look like an economic genius.
The only G7 country with economic output still lower than 2008 !!!
That will be because our GDP fell faster than most other countries because we were more levered. Private sector debt in Spain, Ireland and the UK reached enormous levels - well over 200% of GDP.
Since then, we've done a very good job in delevering. Private sector debt to GDP has fallen 30%; only Ireland has done more.
One problem for the Blues is that even the laudatory headlines have to be accompanied by a photo of the nearly perfect Chancellor's gurning coupon - with that odd expression of sly self consciousness. I suspect many readers just think 'I hate that bloke' and don't read on or give him any credit. Its kind of the inverse of OGH's pre-election theory that DC being in the news (regardless of the story) boosted Tory ratings.
Obviously Labour has the same problem with the Eds - which may in part explain why they are reasonably happy to sit back and see what happens.
Jaw on floor. A Labour spokesman on #newsnight just said "you can't trust people to spend their own money
Who was the spokesman ?
Judging by the billions people waste every year on things they don't need (and then borrow from Wonga) there is a large subset of the population for which that statement is true.
