Jacob Rees-Mogg talks about gold for 10 minutes:-JRM was notorious in the City for being regularly whipsawed- buying when he should be selling and selling when he should be buying. If it wasn't for his wife's 300 million, one could legitimately think he was a poor man masquerading as a rich one... but then so many of the Tories of the last government were less than average when it came to basic competence.

I’m not convinced by the supposed cooling advantages of data centers in space.
When you’re on the night side of the Earth, then sure, there's no sunlight, and yoiu can dump heat by radiating it away. Not because space is "cold" (it very much isn’t), but because there’s nothing around to stop infraredfrom streaming off into the void.
But let the Sun get a clean line of sight to you and things turn real ugly, real fast.
You have to actively move heat away from sun-exposed components using heat pipes or liquid loops, shepherd it around to carefully oriented radiator panels, and then politely ask deep space to take it away. All the while your servers are generating yet more heat.
So yes, you can cool a data center in space. Spacecraft have been doing thermal gymnastics like this for decades. But the idea that space itself is some kind of free, bottomless heat sink is a category error.

To go back to a recent discussion on why Trump beat Harris in the 2024 election, I thought this was good: https://jonn.substack.com/p/spot-the-differenceBit of a curse for those who bet on politics ..
But the truth is that, by having a strong political view in any direction, you are by definition unusual. There’s an upsettingly strong case that, the more you think about politics, the less you will understand the electorate.

And he learnt Russian at the country's finest university.Interesting program following Steve Rosenberg doing his job as BBC Moscow correspondent. He's one of the best the BBC has and obviously has to walk a tightrope a lot of the time. But he's always clear and always appears decent. I don't know about making himself the story though. It seems a little narcissistic for someone with his qualityThey were talking about the programme this morning on Today. It was Panorama who approached him and the Moscow BBC team and he initially didn’t want to do it as they are so busy and a small team but Panorama really wanted to see his perspective as a British journo in Moscow who has such a long connection and so can engage with the country well. So the point of the story was intended to be as much about him as Russia by design of Panorama.

Either if those things may be true.Maybe, or it is a way of resolving cognitive dissonance and staying loyal to the dear leader, like all those old Soviets convinced that Uncle Joe would see them right if only he knew how bad things were.Attacking McSweeney is just a way of attacking Starmer whilst endeavouring to appear loyal. These Labour MPs should grow some balls. It's possible that Labour are successfully delivering things - now I don't believe they are but if the excuse you are hearing is poor media communications you may want to give them a chance to fix that before sacking the manager.https://x.com/alexrogerssky/status/2018395506360168448Not applying enough polish to the turd.
Labour MP: “Consistent failures by Morgan McSweeney have damaged our media operation and left the public unaware of much of what we’ve achieved in government.
“The Mandelson saga has only made things worse, and if Keir doesn’t make changes soon, the PLP will.
“We’ve had enough.”
Personally Starmer and Reeves arrived without a plan and that's utterly unacceptable...
But it also seems true that McSweeney is a pretty toxic individual who contributes little that is positive to government.

New article in the Telegraph.I did warn him that colour scheme would be a disaster.

Come to rural Essex, for the price of a flat in central London you can buy a mansion here and in Summer it is beautiful, great pubs and walks and Fetes and shows and cricket on greens in summer and easy to get into London anyway just a short drive to a tube or train station.I thought Brentwood was on the Elizabeth Line, just over the Essex borderNew article in the Telegraph. That's simply not true: there are lots of nice areas for Londoners to live in.

Here in California, for example, there's Brentwood in Los Angeles. That's a nice area for Londoners -like me- to live in,
I would still live in Kensington and Chelsea, Westminster, Hampstead or Richmond Park if I could afford it (and if I was Jewish Golders Green) but yes anywhere else in London you are better off living in a nice part of the home counties in my view once you reach your 30s and beyond

Nope. This kind of thing is very common:No I don't believe that is true. I suspect white liberal traitors are simply critical of performative cruelty against women and children and the execution of American citizens irrespective of the ethnicity of the perpetrators.OMG! White Supremacist MAGA ghouls are going to lose their shit when they discover White American citizen Alex Pretti was summarily executed by a pair of ICE Hispanics.Likewise privileged white liberals when they discover that the ICE agents weren't Okies from Muskogee.

Hispanic ICE agents are race traitors.
I do not say this lightly and I will not apologize for this.
