Burham will be the sixth PM since July 2016 so six PMs in 10 years. This will be my son’s fifth prime minister since he was born - and he’s 6.It'll be my daughter's fifth and she only turned 4 a couple of months ago.

Prior to that, we only had six PMs in 40 years.

I suspect Burnham gets at least 250 and then will persuade others up to 300, at which point it will be pointless for anyone to challenge him.The important bit is that Starmer is not standing against the challenger. As Burnham will obviously win it would seem petty dumb for any ambitious MP to support a challenger. I can't see Streeting or anyone else getting 81 nominations.
Can anyone else get 81 nominations other than Burnham? I think not.
I suspect Streeting can add up and realises that endorsing Burnham would be the wise move.

Why do they need 19 days of lame duckery before they open nominations, it can't take them that long to count the MPs.If it were quick and easy it would happen more often...

Is there a market up one when Andy Burnham resigns as PM?

Just a reminder my holiday starts this Thursday and I'm not back at work until the 27th of July.
Re: Keir today, gone tomorrow (well September) – politicalbetting.com
Too many politicians confuse the output of their own work - which is mostly announcements, speeches, interviews and decisions - with actual achievements that improve voters' lives out in the real world. Johnson was the classic example; once he'd announced something he was only ever interested in the next new thing he could announce. In order to sell that list of achievements, it had to be true. A lot of it wasn't. The obvious example was "restoring trust on the economy, defence and national security". He didn't. Quite the opposite in fact. But he still put it in the speech.Despite all the sneering, I thought Starmer's exit statement was statesmanlike and dignified, clearly putting the Labour Party before his own ego. Very different from Boris's waspish words when he left the stage. One of his better speeches, for sure.
If he'd been able to sell that list of achievements, he might not be out!
This was the fundamental problem with Starmerism: he confuses words with deeds and facts. He thinks if he says something it is true. It isn't. That's the problem. And now we have the only solution to the problem left available.

Does anyone know how long nomiations will be open for? Trying to work out the earliest date that Burnham could become PM.Nominations open from 9th to 16th July.
I guess the question is can the NEC truncate the campaign at that point, if there’s only one unopposed nomination? Presumably they meet this week to set the rules.
