I assume that this costs the employers time and money to do the paperwork and pay the fees to bring in someone on a visa, so why would they do that if there were available residents looking for work?Assistant Manager at Dominos gets you a skilled worker visa. Other factors may be greater, but this one is real too."Sean ThomasBy coincidence, my calendar's inspirational thought for the day is from PB's Leon. But he might be wrong about his daughter. A lot of entry level work in retail disappeared when high streets were boarded up, in catering when pubs and restaurants closed, and a lot of white collar entry level work has been given to AI (or at least, that's the excuse the PHBs give for not hiring). Tories will add that Labour's job taxes don't help by destroying negative differentials but if the jobs aren't there in the first place...

TfL are getting station attendants on work visas because they claim they can't recruit here. I mean, come on.
There seems to be a missing piece of information in the story.

And whoever becomes Chancellor is going to be very unpopular, even if they do a good job.He is not Reeves and Burnham wants him in his tent not plotting on the backbencheshttps://x.com/GuidoFawkes/status/2068010625272340885What qualifications does Streeting have to be Chancellor?
Some rumours in Labour circles that Streeting will be Chancellor and Miliband will go to MHCLG.
Elevation and castration in one easy move.
Re: The cabinet are revolting – politicalbetting.com
While I expect Burnham to replace Starmer, I'm not as sure as others that it will be plain sailing. Around a quarter of Labour MPs have called for Starmer to go. But what about the other three quarters?
Around 400 Labour MPs, which is a big number, are essentially being told: Starmer needs to go, but none of you are good enough to replace him, so we're getting the bloke from Manchester in to do the job, as he tells us he's the chosen one.
I wouldn't be surprised if a fair wedge of them, including some Cabinet Ministers, are a bit pissed of that they're not deemed capable of replacing Starmer.

...He evokes an almost visceral hatred in many. I don't know why he does but it is futile to deny it.* He isn't left-wing. He confuses "left-wing" with "being nice" and since he believes himself to be nice, then everything he does must be left-wing. It doesn't work like that.
* He gives speeches and states positions, then changes his mind to the exact opposite, and refuses to acknowledge even internally that he has done so. In an age of receipts this is ridiculous.
* He speaks of abstracts like values, but without translating them to concrete policy it just makes him look stupid.
* He cannot make decisions without being told what to do by somebody else. Genuinely.
* As a grown adult he should have recognised these problems and either resigned or worked on overcoming them. He has made some efforts to overcome his lack of contact with MPs but it's too little too late.
He would have made a good Attorney-General. With guidance he may have made a competent Foreign Secretary. But he simply does not have the capacity nor character for the PM job and he needs to leave it.

My daughter - university student - sees the same thing. The “starter” jobs are often long term work for those on the bottom of the job ladder"Sean ThomasI don't necessarily think he is wrong in this respect.

Re: The cabinet are revolting – politicalbetting.com
Starmer is stubborn and I expect would try and stay on whatever Cabinet members say. After all as incumbent Labour leader he would automatically be on any leadership ballot sent to members while it is Burnham and Streeting as challengers who need Labour MPs to nominate themMrs Thatch' was similar until she saw the writing was on the wall.
Re: The cabinet are revolting – politicalbetting.com
Starmer's rivals want to allow him to follow the processing process.

So I am going to refine what I said below. There will be a conversation between Burnham and Streeting “soon”. But nothing about their future relationship is likely to be decided or announced until Keir Starmer has had time to process and respond to how his own MPs have shifted decisively in favour of him being replaced

For those who don’t know - the sale of visas is a vast trade.Well, because a) someone disreputable might hire someone from overseas on £41,700 and then make them pay a proportion of their wages back to the employer in cash, with the threat of withdrawing the role and the visa hanging over their head b) we should only import foreign workers in roles for which we demonstrably lack the skills and cannot train a suitable candidate, and both the roles you indicate, regardless of the nominal salary, do not fall into that category. After all, someone here moving into an assistant manager role creates an entry level role at Dominos for a young person or someone struggling on a zero-hours contract; bringing someone in does not.If the Assistant Manager at Dominos, or TfL Station Attendant is on £41,700 or above then why should they not get a visa?Assistant Manager at Dominos gets you a skilled worker visa. The one with care home staff was shut down after nearly no one recruited ended up working in care homes.
The jobs often don’t exist or pay far less than any minimum pay number.
There is little enforcement - companies found to be selling visas are barred. New ones are bought on line immediately.
A measure to bar companies that shared directors with other companies that had already been bared was blocked as “too harsh”
A visa like this can go for north of £15k
