Re: Why I have doubts about Labour winning a majority – politicalbetting.com
There are two points:- 1. Companies House does very few checks and verifications when new companies are registered. This makes it very quick and easy to set up companies but it also makes it very easy for fraudsters of all types and this has been criticised by many. There is a case for increasing the checks without… -

I’m not sure that’s true. Alcohol has always been closely interwoven with Westminster (perhaps too much, but that’s not my argument) i can remember when Chancellors would delivery a budget with a tumbler of scotch at the side, in the House, and this was reported as if it was all perfectly normal. I imagine this has now… -

Yes and Willie Carson's whingeing at the prize money sounds ridiculous. It's still nearly £227,000 to the winner. The problem is the manner in which horse racing re-started after lockdown. Rather like the Sunak view every job had to be saved no matter the cost, racing authorities have tried to save every race in the… -

Sturgeon said no guarantee that schools will reopen until after the Summer holidays. Been speaking to a couple of my teacher friends, and they say - privately - that schools will be reorganised into 'key worker' creches, and now that all exams have been cancelled, it's a case of managing this and resetting in the Autumn.… -

Totally off topic but may be of interest. I booked a flight on Ryanair for 2 months time, departing around midday. I went back to book another seat on the same flight and saw that the time has changed, it has been moved back by 4 and a half hours which is very inconvenient. Ryanair have not 'notified' us of the change,… -

I can't comment on overlapping catchment areas - so far I've been looking at (physical) barriers to active travel to my closest schools, and how to remove them. The closest primary is notably small and has had new housing built close by over the last decade, with more to come. There is some overlap and choice, though.… -

Sounds like seventh heaven for readers of certain newspapers. Presumably those under house arrest wouldn't be allowed out even to buy food, so they'd need to rely on deliveries unless they'd "prepped" by stocking up, big time. Supermarket managers would have to be able to call in the robocops to detain any trouble-making… -

From Hansard: (ii) "Unopposed Returns"—Governments may also lay papers by an older procedure: by moving a motion in the House for the "unopposed return" of the document they wish to lay before the House and be printed on its authority. The large number of papers now required to be laid by statute, combined with the more… -

Not been enough study. I suspect you missed my original comment about this on the previous thread. Back in 2000 the world's leading expert on house sparrows identified the use of lead replacement additives in petrol as a possible cause of their massive decline. The timing was very compelling but he was looking primarily at… -

Telegraph: "The Trump administration has cut funding for the US Center for Disease Control by 9pc. This month he proposed slashing it a further 16pc. The worst hit area has been pandemic preparation. The CDC’s global health security initiative has been chopped by 80pc, reducing country coverage from 49 to 10. Mr Trump got… -

I am in no position to give legal advicc especially given you are dealing with a different legal system. It's not a bad thing. But the challenge is that, with low interest rates, yield hungry investors, tax-offsets and the availability of debt financing, BTL demand has been a significant component in driving house prices beyond the reach of the younger generation. It all comes down to house prices being too high and how to… -

"£12k a year is a tiny fraction of 6 figure profit they have made. " Until a house is sold, no profit at all has been made. That is the point. You're being taxed every year out of income on a purely notional profit. It may well be that when the house is actually sold it is sold for less than the threshold. Will the tax… -

The rumour is that it was a well executed Ukrainian plan: make it look like the main front line has been broken, let Russia pour through it - then pounce. There was also a North Korean attack that was massive - and utterly obliterated within an hour. Now just use whatever Europe has to smash Russia's oil industry. Rumours… -

Around the millenium the Economist had a review of the preceding century, it may even have been a special issue, and one thing they looked at was the returns of property versus equities. There was only one decade when you would have been better off in property than equities. So if you invest for the long term you are…
