On the energy discussion: one change that I am certain is going to happen over the next couple of years is that of "Fuel Poverty". Currently this is defned as: "A fuel poor household is defined as one which needs to spend more than 10% of its income on all fuel use and to heat its home to an adequate standard of warmth. In… -

I thought Frank Field raised some thoughtful points in his comments on Thatcher yesterday: "I want to mention three areas where we are still grappling with her legacy, and with which Members on both Front Benches have not managed to come to terms. First, there is the great question of riches. She was not satisfied with the… -

Janan Ganesh has issued a rather more effective (though possibly less stylish) demolition of the New York Times's assault on London than SeanT. Me Old Alleynian Osborne has already announced that he wants the government to pursue a "full employment" policy. Economists generally define "full employment" as achieving an unemployment rate of 5%. The UK has only come close to this rate in short periods since the 1970s the last being late 2003-late 2005. The last time… -
Re: politicalbetting.com » Blog Archive » Saved by der Bellen but what will the Italian referendum bring
Which side is favourite on Betfair? I can't access the site at the moment. NO in Italy is the favourite. It's at 1.46 - 1.47. YES is at 3.1 - 3.15. When are we likely to get first "indicators". Lots of people taking about turnout but not sure who low or high turnout favours Twitter reckons High Turnout favours NO. Not sure… -

I actually started an article on this a few days ago. It will probably be my next one. There is so much that has gone wrong that it is almost overwhelming. (I have not finished it because I have been dealing with fee-paying work, some serious medical news and, more pleasingly, writing on gardening and other non-PB topics… -

Might catch the 'highlights' later before deciding whether to watch the whole thing. Not been to the big chair in too long, and being dragged along by wife/translator. He has all European equipment and charges $25 an hour, so if there's a time to go it's probably now! Back on here later, hopefully :o -

To be fair to you, Marcus Rashford has been criticised - I think even in hushed tones within the football scene - for possibly spending a bit too much time on campaigning and that he should focus more on his game. Do I think that was behind his miss last night? No. Lots of us have demanding full time jobs and post on here… -

Last was Lord Carrington, 1982. Previously Home (Foreign Secretary 1961-63). Several in the 1920s - Curzon, Halifax both spring to mind. (Edit - also the Marquess of Reading.) Can't think of anyone other than a Foreign Secretary who has been in the Lords since 1902, however, with the 48 hour exception of Home. -

Some of the cases that got to court showed how much the investigations were absolute shit shows. From William Roache, where basic checks hadn't been conducted in regards to the properties and cars he had access to, let alone his shooting schedule, which meant as soon as they got to court it quickly became apparent that all… -
Re: politicalbetting.com » Blog Archive » No Deal remains imminent and likely
I don't see any difference in how the Tories, Labour and all the parties are acting to be honest. Each is dogmatically insisting the other must come over to their side, and pretend that is compromise. They're all just demanding the other do as they say, and getting on a high horse about it. It's quite pathetic, if… -

For something that is just a string of DNA in a funky shell, it really does act smart. It's like battling the Alien herself. If you had asked a group of writers to come up with the traits of a real bastard of a bug, they'd have been hard-pressed to create something nastier. Asymptomatic in some people, others stricken down…
