As I mentioned in my last post I’ve been driving back from the South of France and only this afternoon did I start to catch up with the story. Nobody really knows whether this is true or not or whether there is more to come out. My guess is that there could be.

This story seems to be complete crap but it has gone around the world now and damaged Cameron's reputation and ability to represent our country. Being a politician he probably won't sue but he really should. And even the Daily Mail should be ashamed of itself. Our political discourse hit a new low today.
Reason 327 not to ever stand for an elected public position.0 -
The book title is also a give away as far as the motives are concerned since its recorded by the times political writer I believe that the only PM to say to staff 'call me.... ' was Gordon Brown. It never even applied to 'call me Tony'. So the title is tellingly false. Does it refer to another 'Dave'? I don't know, 3 months in and his lead shows no sign of shrinking. The NH poll posted in the last thread would suggest that Fiorina is his closest rival, but she is basically Romney in a skirt and I would still fancy Trump to beat her.Omnium said:

According to wiki Hislop may have been a former member of the Piers Gaveston society and at the same time as Hugh Grant! I've always considered Cameron a rather boringly conventional type in the home counties mould. Leaving aside the credibility of the pig story, if he really was the member of a society named in honour of a 14th century French nobleman who allegedly had a homosexual affair with King Edward II, I might have to change my opinion of him.HYUFD said:This is more a story for Mock the Week and Hislop and Merton than giving Cameron any serious damage

Comres is also clearly wrong on subsamples as there is no way the Tories are ahead in Wales, the North and London when they were not even ahead there at the general election.

Indeed, but having a misspent youth makes you human to most voters, I doubt it will have much impact. Far worse to be seen to have spent your university years obsessed by student politics and political theory and making speeches to party conferences as a teenager, just look at William Hague and Ed Miliband, Blair and Cameron's youthful hijinks do them no harmFrankBooth said:

I agree about Bojo, who would have probably addressed it in public immediately with some sort of playful Latin bon mot and people (not me) would just be going 'Bozza, what a ledge. Epic bants' or whatever the modern day equivalent is, but it just does not fit in with Dave's serious-face, sleeves-rolled, let's all pitch in brand. As a PR man he should have realised that.0

From the last thread -
"The evil Machiavellian in me is sensing that this is, in fact, a hatchet job on Ashcroft - not on Cameron. Fed false innuendo and outright lies which he credulously gobbled up, only to make a fool of himself. However, if this is perpetrated by a Cameron fan or inner circle, it is a very high risk strategy. Perhaps someone who has a beef with both Cameron and Ashcroft ..."
I don't think so. Easier to follow the Cockup theory of history - look at the Hitler diaries, or Rathergate.

Shame that the middle ground may well not exist any more.
Comres is also clearly wrong on subsamples as there is no way the Tories are ahead in Wales, the North and London when they were not even ahead there at the general election.
If you are going to be selective in your Pick'n'Mix reliance on tiny subsamples, you will need to at least be consistent.
I suggest we hold forth until further subsamples from Scotland and polls from Scotland can be examined. However on the basis of subsamples given Comres' are completely out of tune with May's election results unlike yougov I suggest they be treated with some scepticism.
So not only are you hypocritically using a Comres poll you have previously rubbished as "clearly wrong" and needed to be "treated with scepticism" you are also breaking your own proposition to hold off using subsamples after you were resoundingly spanked by posters of all political backgrounds in yesterday's thread.0 -

All elections in the period 1-14 March must allocate delegates proportionally. Winner takes all starts 15 March. So, if one of the novices is still on 30% at that point, the max number of delegates they'll have will be 330-40 (depending on how many % are removed by candidates polling below the cut off). So those other candidates on 10% will only be a total of 200 or so delegates behind on March 14.0 -

That was on the basis of comparing them to each other, when BOTH Comres and Yougov agree the Tories are up in Scotland that is telling you something. I was not spanked by anyone at all as both polls also showed the SNP down too. The only dispute was over whether Labour was up, yougov said they were, comres they were not, based on the dubious nature of comres' other subsamples I suggested yougov was more likely to be accurate. Yes, we can await further subsamples to confirm the Labour position but when 2 pollsters agree on something it suggests a trendDair said:

You really are incorrigible HYUFD. Yesterday you said that the Comres sub samples were rubbish!
There have been 8 full opinion polls since the May election. Last one last week. Average Tory vote just under 14 per cent. Last one 14 per cent. Election performance in 2011 14 per cent.
