Jowell should actually be favourite, Zac and Khan joint second favourites.
Yougov in their Evening Standard Poll last week had Jowell leading Zac 35% - 26%, but Khan level with Zac on 29% each. Yougov also had Jowell ahead with Labour voters for the Labour nomination, albeit with a narrower lead with Labour voters than Zac had with Tory voters on Sol Campbell, his closest rival for the Tory nomination

1) Even as a strong candidate, I'd have thought he might fall back a bit once the sheen has worn off.
2) It was said on the previous thread this makes Jowell the necessary Labour choice as the only one who could stop the Tories - but surely Labour are sufficiently strong in the capital more than one candidate could stop a good Tory candidate, even if victory is by no mean certain?0 -
Incidentally you can still get 1.28 (just under 2/7) on Khan OR Jowell to win the Labour nomination. Not as good value as it was, but still worth considering.0

Firstly he had to deal with some pretty aggressive hecklers during the anti-austerity marches in London who told him to ‘f*** off back to Miliband’.
Now he has asked people to #LoveThePolice, and most folks don’t seem to happy about it.
In a video posted to his Facebook page Brand claims he has spoken with many disillusioned police officers in the UK, and has suggested we use ‘situationism’ – in that by protesting for the rights of police officers they will face an internal moral confrontation as to whether to help or hinder the demonstrators.
A nice idea, but… well… let’s see what Twitter has to say about it.

In a certain Premier Inn there are books left/donated by guests that P Inn sell in aid of Great Ormond St Hospital. As I sad idly by waiting for a friend, I notice a book in the bookcase which just said Russell Brand. The thing about Sadiq is, I like what I've read about his politics, but whenever I've seen him on TV I've been pretty unimpressed. There's just something about him which seems a bit...unauthoritative and quiet.
Even though I don't buy this bs about centrists being what Labour needs in general, my instinct would be that Tessa is the best candidate for this simply because she'll remind people of the Olympics - and who wouldn't want to be reminded of the Olympics?0 -

Major disturbance outside French end of channel Tunnel. Trains stopped. Train heading to Calais now stopped and is retuning back to London without crossing
Sky news reports many lorries being attacked and broken into as they go by slowlytoward the port.
Initial reports Ferry services suspended ???
"operation stack" now implemented on the M2 motorway now in operation.
As a result of strike action there are many slow moving lorries and people have been trying to board all day. Sky Reports indicate thousands (not hundreds) but thousands are now attempting to board lorries and or break through.
Drivers including holiday makers tool by FO keep your car doors locked and windows closed when passing through the area.
I think the French will let them or will be just overwhelmed eventually.
It has to be asked again and again why do they live for months in France like they do just to get here. We all know the answer of course so that is the only way to stop this and to hell with the European courts, Schengen and the EU.
A large number of people are heading over the channel into France the other way for holidays so it's not that bad in France they they need to be risking life and limb to get over here. They need to enforce their claim in France and if failed the French have to deal with them . Slim chance they will probably just give them a passport and wave them on.

My wife and I both voted "Yes" in his ballot so we are part of the 79% in favour of him standing.
But in the comments section we both said that if he becomes Mayor we expect him to stand down as an MP. He shouldn't try to do both jobs.
As far as I can see, on his website and in his announcement, he has made no comment on this.
Of course, if the Government approves Heathrow, Zac has promised to stand down anyway as a Conservative MP. I assumed he would stand again in the subsequent by-election as an independent. But running for Mayor would complicate this. It will depend on the timing of the Heathrow announcement.0 -
