Labour MPs put the kibosh on an election fought under the Alternative Vote System
Labour MPs put the kibosh on an election fought under the Alternative Vote System – politicalbetting.com
Andy Burnham has 322 nominations out of 403 Labour MPs. That means that 81 Labour MPs have yet to nominate. 81 = magic number to reach the ballot. But looks like Keir Starmer will follow recent precedent and not nominate. So only 80 Labour MPs left to nominate. Game over pic.twitter.com/M246MO23ak

This means incidentally the last two prime ministers elected by their party between elections have been unopposed.
Admittedly looking at what happens when it goes to the membership....
No2AV = 68%
Yes2AV = 32%

I know these days he's all for enquires and forcing the truth into the open, but his actions over Mid Staffordshire would have embarrassed the BBC.
Minister for Pencils has lost his brief and instead will now be Minister For Getting The Teas In
He's so full of himself.
Personally I think Simons and Burnham were both self-serving muppets, but if you can't see the difference I advise a trip to Barnard Castle.
Farage appears to have resigned to spend a month fighting to get the job he already had. Worse the disciplinary he was avoiding is just paused until they know if he’s coming back or not
Is Lee Cain still available?
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-49165504
Or Dennis Pennis. Or a new career for Borat as a reporter in Clacton.
He may just have been supporting Farage of course...
Support it or not both Simons and Burnham resigned so Burnham could become PM, which is at least a big deal.
Farage resigned as a stunt. Explicitly so, since winning wouldn't clear him of poor behaviour (which you ignore at every turn) and you've spent the whole time moaning people won't applaud the stunt.
The sitiations are not the same, even if one were to take the view Burnham should not have resigned and Farage is a great chap the two circimstamces are very different.
From junction with the testes to tip of his face.
(and no, I'm not Steve Martin)
Well, who cares? His political future will not be decided by a stunt like this, he wins or loses the top prize for other reasons.
So we can enjoy how angry some people are getting - which doesn't seem to include Farage, to his credit, as much as his fanboys.
I mean Farage himself hasn't been consistent on it has he? He criticised the resignation of Simons and Burnham as being in the service of Burnham's ego, but resigning in service of his own ego seems to be just fine and dandy in his opinion.
EXCL: George Cottrell went for drinks with Tommy Robinson and other far-right activists shortly after his release from prison
Cottrell later appeared backstage at rally organised by Robinson and spent the summer partying with the former EDL leader’s team

But I don't believe that would work culturally here, as we have had a professional volunteer army for hundreds of years. Someone here will know the history.
I think that if we had far more widespread availability of guns over a short period, we might risk following to a degree the US route, rather than say the Swiss route.
I could be wrong, but it's not a risk I would like to take.
See Al Carns who ends up on the wrong side of the line.
Surely Iyar and Gambhir can't survive this? India have looked like Pakistan only much worse.

A seat the national polls said would be an easy Reform gain.
That he has not done so makes me embarrassed for my attempt at balance on the previous thread.
I preferred Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks.
It was only going to be one but SKS called them.

Giant Haystacks wrestled for their one time rivals, WCW
A few of our wrestlers have been successes over there.
I’m more AEW than WWE these days. Tony Khan is a great guy.
My friends thought I was going to die in the cinema, I kept on laughing so much.
Dodgeball, Intolerable Cruelty, Casino Royale, and The Avengers have only elicited such a strong reaction.
Casino Royale was the worst, the whole cinema looked at me after I couldn't stop laughing.

Can’t think of any other good ones.

'Now the whole world's gonna know that you died scratching my balls!'
I had that as a text alert on my phone until HR explained to me it wasn't work appropriate.
It comes as a dramatic new PLMR poll has a post Starmer Labour surging to take first place on seats again with 217 MPs projected and Burnham also ironically helping save the Tories with 151 Conservative MPs projected, just ahead of Reform on 127 MPs forecast after tactical voting is factored in. That is despite Reform being tied for the lead with Labour on 22% and ahead of the Tories who are on 20% on national votes

His MUM ha done at least £1.75m, too.
The tabloids will like the story because she was in Penthouse.
It was now or never for Burnham.
Andrew Marr: " The Commons rules are very clear and they forbid face coverings "
Count Binface: " Well the Commons rules are very clear about what you can do with donations , but that seems to have got all murky so why can't I see how the line can get tested ?
The problem with UK mayors compared to abroad, in UK they are mostly just glorified car park attendants, central government, the treasury, take more control of actual power all the time - the new Defence Investment Plan a perfect example. Mayors certainly spend and waste money - and Burnham has a back catalogue of mistakes, bad decisions and waste to be thrown at him. But Mayors never properly prove they generate additional money or get value for it like government ministers and PMs constantly have to. The difference between a mayor and being in a proper job in government, is chalk and cheese.
The point I’m getting at here, at no time has Burnham ever been more popular than Starmer for PM - because how do you poll such a thing accurately when one is actually doing a proper job, the other a glorified car park attendant tucked away in a region or city most friendly to the party, spending other people’s money. Yet WOTN (the wanker from the north - Wankashire in fact, not an intelligent part of the north) his inane supporters were naff enough to quote such polling. No I’ll go much further than that, it’s the fact the whole Labour movement has bought into idea Burnhams government will be more popular with the electorate than Starmer’s. But here’s the bottom line - based on what? It’s not evidence based. It’s the most flawed understanding as you scratch beneath its surface.
This is how we politics geeks - and very soon the whole rest of the nation - actually know Andy Burnham: it’s from the weirdo’s and no hopers he surrounds himself with - Useless Lucy, Lawbreaker Louise, Fruit Cake Clive Lewis, Milliband, Rayner, Red Ann Midgley. Forget my references to “Manc Mafia” - UK’s about to be governed by THE MUNSTERS.
I have already called it correctly - this is exactly what is about to happen: it will soon be viewed as a horror show, because Team Burnham are just weird people and clueless second rate politicians. And - just like the US Democrats, who MUST shoulder the main responsibility for inflicting Trump 2.0 on the world becuase they also coronated without a proper test - Labour will massively regret not having a contest before handing over such massive power to a weird unlikeable clique in their party.
They have crushed another legal e-cycle (technically EAPC - Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycle). This one was a Tern HSD, which was worth about £5.5k and are one of the best known brands in the UK. It had been funded by Birmingham Council to be part of a "hire for a month to try it out" scheme:
However, the cycle was seized by West Midlands Police on New Street, in Birmingham city centre, and wrongly identified as what in law is an electric motorcycle, for which riders need a license and insurance. The rider was offered a Fixed Penalty Notice of £300 and six points on their license, or a court hearing.
Body-worn camera footage from the police encounter with the rider, released by police and seen by Cycling Electric, shows an officer cranking the e-bike’s pedal with one hand, while the rear wheel is off the ground, thus removing any friction with a surface – and the speedometer registering what looks like 60km/h. The rider can be heard saying the motor wasn’t switched on at the time.

Labour, Lib Dem and Green coalition still miss a majority by 7 seats

This is something that was getting reported by a few here regularly but not making the mainstream news, but now seems to be more regularly on mainstream news too.
I wonder if they've picked it up from here, or if we're potentially approaching some sort of culmination?

Davey Boy’s son is a wrestler now. He will never be more than lower mid card.
I listened to the Bret Hart audiobook. It’s brilliant. Neither come out well although Dynamite comes off as a really unpleasant and at the end very bitter piece of work. Drink and drugs. As a wrestler he was superb and even got over in Japan.
Davey just comes over as a guy who cannot beat his addictions which eventually consumed him.
The first two resigned in order to do something else.
Farage had resigned in order to .. run for the post he resigned from.
It's fine for him to resign; it's also fine to mock him mercilessly for making himself ridiculous.
So this action is about recovering unlawfully imposed losses after the fact, and would not be started until the EAPC had been crushed. It is as if the police had seized your car unlawfully and crushed it anyway.
