Starmer's plan to pick Labour back up after the elections: *pivot from 'hero voters' to 'progressive block' *more action on defence and environment *drop the technocratic tone
The technocratic tone is currently intentional?!
Saying 'significant military capabilities' in the same tone as 'cheese and pickle sandwich' was strategy

Just a note on "hero voters". This is the name for the voters who didn't vote Labour after 2005 and before 2024. Labour's vote share in 2024 only went up by 1.6pp, while the "progressive block" who voted for Labour in 2019 comprise 32.1pp.
It was always daft for Labour to concentrate on voters they had failed to attract in 2024.

“Ed has always supported the Prime Minister and continues to do so as he delivers on his mandate for change."
He supports the Prime Minister in the event he decides, voluntarily, to stand down as well.
Whilst I do not hold it against him, Ed M running against his brother does mean he cannot really complain about a reputation for being ruthless in pursue his own power (directly or through othersd).

Turnout in my local polling station was 50% at the close. Assume that's not counting anyone eligible for postals. Usually will be slightly higher than the average as its a rural polling booth

Shouldn’t you ensure you’re firing on all cylinders before going on a journey?
This is why you need a Deltic...
Now let us pray.
Our Penwarden, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy crankshaft sequence be done; In Preston as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily cylinder cycle. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not to 4 stroke engine cycles; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the prime mover, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
I'm slightly concerned about what "dropping the technocratic tone" means. I don't want to see him bopping around or talking cockney or anything like that. He's a serious white collar professional and shouldn't pretend otherwise. If the country wants something different it will have to be supplied by somebody else.

Newcastle already was minority Labour.
Edit: Oh I see. Held as. Well that suggests largest Party. Which would be a major turnup tbh.

Wasn't a serious technocrat when he was a young lawyer and wanting to abolish the monarchy and taking on progressive cases (cab rank my arse). Maybe he can remember what it feels like...

Ah, if only. Manic Miner was never officially available for the ZX81, although apparently there was an unofficial Czech port of the first few levels. 3D Monster Maze is where it's at.

I've no knowledge beyond anecdotal and local so could be very wrong but on what I saw today I expect Mehmood Mirza to win the Mayoral vote in Newham tonight and his party, the Newham Independents to take the Borough tomorrow.
It's quite possible Labour could lose 40 seats in the Borough to the NIP and the Greens which would be devastating.

1/ This is likely to be a v good night for Reform. Lots is made of ‘peak Reform’ as their support has fallen lately. But 25% is still 25% higher than they were 4 years ago (zero). Earthquake coming.

I fed that to an AI and got this

Emotions in Labour are running [high]. One MP said they "feel sick" and added they "can see why this is a moment of peril in a way I didn't hours ago. It's the collective grief and agony that could absolutely take him out."

One unnamed MP.
Unless the Cabinet unanimously confront Starmer and tell him his time is up MPs will have to be bold enough to put their name to opposition to Starmer to get him to go.

Fair point. Maybe he was a monotone twerp even when he was progressive.

Collective grief and agony won’t launch leadership contests. Someone needs to challenge him, or the cabinet need to tell him to go, if he’s actually going to leave.

Something I see so many times.
Despite things being obvious and foreseeable, far ahead, many, many people only "discover" them when the events smack them in the face.
See the slow motion disaster over Hormuz. Comment on it, and you will get numbers of people denying it is happening, will be that bad etc.
