Now even Reform voters have a negative view on Donald Trump – politicalbetting.com

Striking eg of how Britons do not reflexively now pick the US’s side on global affairs. Asked who they sympathise with more in the Iran conflict – 19 per cent of Britons say Israel and the US while 13 per cent say Iran. However a majority either say neither, both or aren’t sure.

    Up to now, Labour have (nationally at least) held back from campaigning full on to discredit Farage on account of his links with Trump, presumably so as not to further compromise Starmer's relationship with Trump. That's in stark contrast with the way Labour has tried to portray Farage as Putin's lacky, a much less effective line of attack.

    It's time for the gloves to come off. Labour can't afford to continue to hold back playing their best card against Reform.

    If Reform popularity can be measured in flags they are top bananas in North Worcestershire.

    A brace of flags, one Union and one St George on every lamppost in Redditch. Flags galore on Portway roundabout off the M42, and one for @Taz at least 30 flags on lampposts around Beckett's Island. I lived a quarter of a mile away from 1962 to 1977 and I never saw a flag in all those years. Stopping to salute each of the buggers takes some time.

    As a card I think it is vastly, vastly overrated.

    Logic being simply that it will be history by the time of the next election.

    The next Presidential election is in 2028 and the next President will be inaugurated in January 2029, and we can finally put the wretched Trump era behind us.

    The next UK election is due in August 2029. We might see it earlier, in May, but I don't think we'll see it any earlier than that, given how unpopular Labour currently is.

    How many people in a British General Election are going to vote based on a former US President? I doubt its going to be many people, in the real world.

    It may seem all consuming today, but by then Trump will be gone and history - and thank f### for that!

    UPDATE: That EAPC (electrically assisted cycle) I mentioned several weeks ago has been returned to its disabled (Fibromyalgia) owner.

    After the rejection of the first appeal out of hand, the waffle, the straight bats, the bellyaching and the bullshit, it turned out that the test had been incorrectly performed.

    When an "experienced officer" eventually repeated the test, it showed the seized EAPC mobility aid to be perfectly legal.

    It took some quite heavy duty intervention, and several weeks, to get this reversed - including multiple national charities, and a very experienced activist (far more so than me) who audit-trailed it all.

    They have one hell of a problem if this is the best the police can do. If the victim pursues legal action, this should be open and shut.

    This issue will be getting some targeting from campaign groups, I think. One suggestion I have heard is to do a street survey on a busy cycle track to see just how many e-cycles in usage are legal. There will also be some attention to testing procedures, which seem to be unreliable.

    I saw the other day that the Union flag has come down on the hill by the M4 near Port Talbot but the St David's one is still there. Good news for Plaid Cymru I guess.

    Reform UK has confirmed that that it has suspended Chris Parry as its Hampshire mayoral candidate after he described members of a Jewish neighbourhood watch group as “cosplayers” and likened them to “Islamists on horseback”. (See 1.53pm.)

    A Reform UK spokesperson said: “Chris Parry has been suspended by Reform UK pending investigation.” His candidacy has also been suspended by the party.

    When contacted by the Guardian earlier after Hampshire Live quoted a Reform UK spokesman as saying he was no longer the party’s candidate, Parry said that he was “mid-Atlantic.”

    The Liberal Democrats home affairs spokesperson Max Wilkinson had called on Farage earlier in the day to drop Parry. He later said : “This is a good start, but Farage has some way to go. There are serious questions to answer as to how this candidate got approved in the first place.”

    Calvin Bailey, a Labour MP who wrote to Nigel Farage about previous comments attributed to Parry, including calling female MPs “harpies”, said: “It should not take repeated incidents for basic standards of decency to be upheld.”

    The article says it was his work phone. I had my bag stolen from a coffee shop once. I phoned the police and happened to mention that my government pass was in the bag (I was more vexed about my brand new ipad that I got for my birthday). I had an officer round in about 45 minutes so it's a bit odd about McSweeney. Maybe he was too embarrassed to mention it?

    Drakes Cross ? I used to do a door to door collection round there, long after you left.

    Oooh, that’s not far from Mom and the cider from the farm shop on the island is exceptional.

    For many years used to meet my fantastic sister for cakes there.

    I used to work at Magna in Redditch and drive past it daily.

    Not really. The left generally sees itself as part of the opposition to the establishment whereas Tory voters, at least pre-Johnson, were the carpet slipper vote happy if everything stayed just as it is. However repelled you are by Trump’s ignorance, crudeness and stupidity, there’s no doubt he’s put two fingers up to the DC establishment and that’s going to attract a few cheers from left leaning voters, at least until they realise he’s willing to take the whole global economy down with him.

    It need not be so. In the seventies all the talk was of 'managed decline' for the UK. Thatcher changed the picture. I still believe the right leader could do so again, but it needs to be someone who wants and understands how to create jobs, wealth, economic gains.

    Tinkering at the edges won't do it.

    Truss, for all that she is/was a loon, at least tried to break the consensus.

    Won and winning are different tenses though.

    He's not won, but I would argue over the last couple of years he is winning, relatively speaking.

    I remain an opponent of his (support Lapid) and would further say that he had a dreadful few years prior to the Hamas attack which directly contributed to it. Since then, been better though.

    The article says it was his work phone. I had my bag stolen from a coffee shop once. I phoned the police and happened to mention that my government pass was in the bag (I was more vexed about my brand new ipad that I got for my birthday).     He got a new work phone with same number the next day so i'm sure the government and security services followed all due procedures for theft of a sensitive device.

    If I recall correctly, Parry also called for London-born David Lammy to "go home" to the Caribbean.

    A video worth a listen from Legal Eagle.

    23 hours of on camera testimony under oath about how DOGE worked when it was inside agencies was published.

    They were identifying "DEI" grants without a clear definition of DEI, using a keywork list and Chat GPT, with an inane prompt.

    One of the worst decisions they made was to cut a National Endowment for the Humanities grant to a documentary about the impact of slavery on Jewish Women in the Third Reich; it was against their values because it talked about Jews and Females.

    A generally serious contribution from an explicitly right-wing source (a contributor to "The American Conservative"), though I've never heard the allegedly common nickname for Starmer: "two-tier Kier". He's a bit vague about his preferred solution, though.

    I posted a video a couple of weeks ago where they followed a company who track stolen cars. They identified the location of 3 cars that had been stolen. One was in a lockup, £100k car, the police wouldn't come out initially, eventually they did because I presume they were told were are filming this, said here is a crime number, we won't be investigating and pottered off, no scene of crime dusting for prints etc, it was basically here is a crime number you are on your own, up to you in you want to break into the lockup and retrieve the car. The tracking company bod said this is absolutely standard.

    Another a £120k car was tracked to a chop shop, the police did actually arrest the two suspects in the process of stripping the car, the CPS didn't proescute not enough evidence, despite car stolen, tracked to that location, in process of stripping car. How much more evidence do you need?

    If they aren't giving a shit about £100k+ cars being stolen, no chance they give a stuff about £1k phones.

    I used that once to find my phone that had dropped out my pocket at the local garage where I'd left my vehicle to be serviced. Got a lift with a colleague to the garage and was still there just under the driver's door on the tarmac.

    In order to get your phone nicked in the UK, you don't even need to be a victim of a yutt on an illegal e-bike mugging you. Wander into a busy pub and put it on the table while you go to the bogs or the bar, chances are it will have grown legs and walked away. And if you do that the police definitely won't be investigating.

    In Singapore on the other hand, not only will it be there, but you will come back will find nobody is sitting at the table as it is a way you signal that you the table is in use even though nobody is sitting there.

    The plod not even willing to investigate phones and cars being nicked is why people think crime is out of control no matter how much Fraser Nelson et al say look at all the stats they are down and far better than 20-30 years ago.     I have not seen the judgment but the report indicates, sotto voce, that the decision the judge had to make was whether he could have a hearing, not that he could remain in the UK. SFAICS that remains to be decided. Which means that the case is deciding much less than the story suggests.

    Was he not DPM for a chunk of the time with a PM who seemed seriously close to a break down? I would be astonished if he wasn’t sticking his oar in. The impression I got at the time was that he was running the show and that he and Darling were basically all that was keeping the government on track.
    That he was running the government was something he was briefing the press about.

    The reality might well have been different.
    I'd be amazed if Darling had a free hand as CoE, Brown had a reputation as a micro-manager and had been CoE for 11 years.

    The problem for Reform (and to a lesser extent the Tories), is that even if most of their voters and representatives have a negative view of Trump, the people who do have a very positive view of him will probably be within their ranks, causing friction and being protrayed as the norm to floating centrist dads who, though not as crucial as they think, do have some influence.

    The Canadians are still having that problem despite trying to have some distance.

    The MMcS lost messages will all of course have a sender/recipient who will have carefully preserved each and every one of them. You have to lose two phones to lose a single communication. To lose all relevant communications from multiple phones/parties you have to fill the North Sea with them.

    Maybe. But a government that had been paralysed by Brown’s indecision started moving again.

    Mandelson has the morals of an ally cat and really seems to have not cared if Epstein was abusing children. But he was and is an operator who knows how to get things done. I have admitted before that I, in ignorance of the Epstein stuff, thought his appointment was a good one. I think that there is at least some truth in it.

    The relevant sender/recipient are McSweeney and Mandelson, so only 2 unbacked up mobiles need to be lost.
