Jesus. The Telegraph has all the gory details on Mandy’s financially parasitic entanglement with Epstein PLUS Mandy handing over state secrets to a convicted pedo
What madness. Lord Petey could do chokey for this
The complicating factor is that Andrew MbW and his missus seem to have been equally dependant on Epstein's chequebook and in Andy's case, the girls as well of course.
I’ve been Foreign Secretary. Making a political appointee an ambassador has to be signed off by the FS, indeed the FS has to push this through. David Lammy would have had to push the Mandelson appointment hard. Why did he ignore the warnings he would have received?

If Clive Lewis (or any Labour MP) wrote to the NEC today to say he wanted to challenge Starmer, I think a plain reading of the rules and the 2016 precedent is the NEC would have to meet and set up a window for any MP wishing to stand against Starmer to collect nominations.
And then those waiting in the wings (Rayner, Streeting, etc) would presumably be bounced into collecting their signatures, unless they mutually agreed to hold fire.
And before you know it, someone (in all likelihood 2 people, maybe even 3) have enough signatures to challenge Starmer.
And then Starmer must fight for his leadership amongst the Labour membership, which he would probably lose.
First to say I can't see Starmer resigning over this.
An atomic bomb wouldn't remove Starmer
What about a redhead?
I think this all increases the chances of Ange being next.
It makes her financial arrangements seem a bit meh, and allows her to say we've had enough of the old boy's club.
Rayner is now best-placed
As I posted as the old thread was closing.
The obvious one is Angela.
She has behaved dutifully and perfectly since resignation.
Labour has a number of very competent ministers in place she would be well advised to keep
Cooper Mahmood Healy McFadden Both Alexanders Nandy Phillipson Ed M Emma Reynolds Jarvis
Some of the new intake.
Likes of Haigh and Thornbury return.
Compares very well with threadbare Shadow Cabinet of failures like Philp, Patel Stride, Atkins, Couthino.
Badenoch probably be gone before Starmer coronation for Cleverly.
Labour edge left. Tories edge centre.
“dutifully and perfectly since resignation”.
Has she paid her tax due?
If Angela Rayner is the answer, the wrong question is definitely being asked.
She’s no Mandelson, who can keep coming back again until yet another scandal finally kills her off almost three decades later.
Angela Rayner is not the answer to any question relating to the government of this country. Maybe “how can we fuck things up more”.
The question is, who do we put our money on? Not who would be best, or who would we like, but who will win?
If Labour had any sense of survival and/or common sense they’d pick…hmmm…Cooper or Streeting. Although she’s like a headmistress and perpetually looks like Dot Cotton licking piss off a nettle (not my words)…Cooper should win. If common sense was something applicable to politicians I’d bet on her.

In two months she is due the tax back once her kid turns 18!
Big Ange downfall wasn't the tax dodging, it was the attempted cover up, including throwing a load of lawyers under the bus. But because she is as thick as mince, that is a terrible tactic as they had all the receipts.

And that’s the issue. She’s as thick as mince. Elevated way beyond her intellectual capacity.
No one who was here/there will ever be able to forget seeing Mandelson in his underpants!
It would be a public service if PB much less frequently introduced photos which once seen can't be forgotten for all the wrong reasons. OTOH you can find reasons to reproduce Waterhouse's 'The Crystal ball' as often as you like, and continue the same with (for reasons I have forgotten) the paintings of John Atkinson Grimshaw. Or a new direction would be the paintings of George Elgar Hicks - another under rated genius.
Those Led By Donkeys lads seem to have gone on semi-retirement these days. Odd Trump or Farage stunt, but so much ripe material they could be taking advantage of....
Tom Walker/Jonathan Pie is actually the most disappointing. The character is still perfect for the current climate. Good comedians can give their "own" side a blast in the name of their art, but he doesn't seem able to bring himself to do it.
I always like Mark Thomas for that. Unshamed leftie, of course put Tories and then New Labour on blast, but happy to poke fun at the more mental elements among his fellow travellers in his shows.
The best comics and satirists can take the piss out of anyone.
Once you have partisan comedians it ends up like Jimmy Kimmel, playing the partisan audience for clapter rather than genuine laughs.

Very impressive and highly respected in NATO.
If Labour feel a female is needed, Emma Reynolds, very impressive before losing her seat on 2010 has quickly returned to a top role, would be an interesting long shot.
Lord Mandelson will face a full criminal investigation into allegations that he leaked market-sensitive information from Downing Street to the paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein, The Times has been told
A government source said that Scotland Yard detectives are expected to interview Mandelson and take statements from other senior Labour figures as witnesses, including Gordon Brown, the former prime minister.
They are also expected to ask the US Department for Justice to release unredacted copies of the emails
The move, which is expected to be announced shortly, comes less than 24 hours after Scotland Yard said it was reviewing the allegations against Mandelson
The Cabinet Office told the Metropolitan Police that the emails sent by Mandelson to Epstein may constitute criminality
Mandelson is being investigated under suspicion of misconduct in public office - an offence that carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment

Kicked into the long grass. Will be quietly dropped to save embarrassment to all concerned.
Even if you approve of pubs and disapprove of unaffordable children, this seems a tough sell.
If you think it's a lack of drunken sex that's caused the birthrate decline, then it makes a lot of sense.
My mother was a medical secretary in a doctor's surgery and she always reckoned that a local American themed bar was responsible for half of the unwanted pregnancies and subsequent abortions the surgery dealt with.

Assuming a Streeting v Rayner choice, I'm clear on the answer to the 1st. Streeting. But on the 2nd I'm not sure at all. And if I end up concluding it's Rayner I can see myself (reluctantly) prioritising that and voting for her.

Even though it pains me to say, being virulently anti-Labour, Cooper in 2015 would have been a brilliant choice - with some work on eradicating that weird scowl she has, she’d be pushing Fatchers term by now.
If the Met announce a criminal investigation on to Mandelson and his actions in 2009 and 2010 to the current day, how would this pact on as an example disclosure of all documents around his ambassador role. If he deliberately withheld information then, it could constitute part of any criminal case eg false representation.
To what degree does a criminal investigation close down parliamentary investigation.?

Not if
They have announced the criminal investigation
It will not change the question of Starmer's judgement in appointing him
Good from Nigey. Nigey maintains Mandelson has broken the Official Secrets Act. Nigel agrees that he was only mentioned 37 times in the Epstein files, which I think we agree is pretty close to zero. And like with Nathan Gill, he never met him.
Good from Davy. He wants a ten year Public Inquiry.
Nonetheless Starmer needs to go.
I can't see a reason for Starmer to go. He appointed him in good faith. There was no reason to think he was traitor. Watching Kemi after the event looks so opportunistic. She's worked with some appaling shits in her time. Wasn't she appointed a Minister by Boris Johnson? When the Tories get on their high horse you know it's time for the sick bag.

Of course we're all assuming he's wearing underpants, but we cant rule out its actually a nappy.
We should be grateful he wasn’t ‘commando’
The current 'meerkat' advert has one of them swimming commando and the boss saying 'nobody wants to see that'!
Mrs Foxy refuses to accept my contention that the meerkats are gay with a sub/dom relationship. This is despite them living together in San Francisco, adopting two cubs and going to date night movies together. Now we have one going commmando in the pool.

Angela Rayner is not the answer to any question relating to the government of this country. Maybe “how can we fuck things up more”.
The question is, who do we put our money on? Not who would be best, or who would we like, but who will win?
If it helps I'm a Labour member and if/when the vote comes I'll be judging 2 things:
Who would be the better PM? Who would more likely beat Reform?
Assuming a Streeting v Rayner choice, I'm clear on the answer to the 1st. Streeting. But on the 2nd I'm not sure at all. And if I end up concluding it's Rayner I can see myself (reluctantly) prioritising that and voting for her.
Nothing (for me) is more important than preventing Farage and his gang getting their filthy mitts on this country.
Far be it from me to suggest solutions to Labours quandary but Rayner is so far from your desire to beat Reform as you can get. Honestly - Labour supporters and members need to read the fucking room. Your only hope is a Cooper ticket with Streeting as Chancellor maybe. This fascination and love for Rayner is perplexing. She’s clearly thick as shit. And a proven tax dodger.
If Labour ditch Starmer they need a street-fighter who can motivate the troops and stick it to Farage. Yvette? Ahem. Nope, it has to be Ange. And they need to move Left - again, to motivate the troops, and unite the left. Make it an existential fight with the Fash.
It requires 81 MPs. It’s not happening anytime soon, that’s a huge number.
Conservative Party don’t want to lose Starmer. Starmer’s name on ballot paper in coming elections is helpful. (It’s not on ballot at coming locals? Oh yes it is.)
It’s so early in the parliament for Labour to tear up the will of the people. Starmer falls and we will all be ruled over by a much more left wing Prime Minister, much more left wing economic policy. More borrowing, more taxes, more money thrown around on Labour hobby horses, and market and investment turmoil. Who wants that?
I don’t see it in the interests of my country for Labour to remove Starmer only 24 months in, so they can go loopy left with the reigns of power. The centre-right in this country shouldn’t be aiding and abetting that.

Yes. Somebody like me will be doing that. But the actual me is in a seat where Reform have no chance, so I'm spared.

Although you’re stuck and will be stuck with Starmer so there’s that.
Police begin criminal investigation into Mandelson allegations A criminal investigation has been launched into allegations Peter Mandelson passed market-sensitive information to the paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Commander Ella Marriott, from the Metropolitan Police, said: “Following the further release of millions of court documents in relation to Jeffrey Epstein by the United States Department of Justice, the Met received a number of reports into alleged misconduct in public office including a referral from the UK Government.

The irony is, if this is what *finally* ends Starmer's premiership (as the historically low polls, constant u-turns, economy, anger of his own MPs, etc don't seem to have), Kingmaker Mandelson's long-term protege will ascend straight to No 10.
If Clive Lewis (or any Labour MP) wrote to the NEC today to say he wanted to challenge Starmer, I think a plain reading of the rules and the 2016 precedent is the NEC would have to meet and set up a window for any MP wishing to stand against Starmer to collect nominations.

You do know how politics works
The opposition parties are doing what they do in circumstances like this
And if Starmer falls and Rayner or similar comes to power the bond markets will react and Truss 2 beckons
81 mps is only 20% of the party and the fury in the party is off the scale

Fucking hell...
We are desperate
LOL at the idea of Rayner or Cooper turning up to meet Trump, Xi, Putin…
That’s not sexist by the way, look at Kaja Kallas, Ursula VdL, Meloni, all clearly top class stateswomen. I just don’t think any of the current UK Labour group of women could do it.
Who can Starmer blame for Mandelson's appointment?
His paunchy paws are all over it
It’s a question what Starmer knew at the time. Or what can be proved he knew. And it’s not easy to get to that to be honest. Or failing that, merely a slap for should have known better and been more diligent as we would have been.
For preservation of true history, {I didn’t like it} but PB consensus liked the appointment. back Bench Conservative MPs stood up in commons said it was good appointment. What did Starmer know at tgst time that we didn’t, what the Conservatives didn’t?
Did UKs security Services not know the detail held in the Epstein Files? Is this the first time anyone’s found out the true depth of PantyPetes collusion with Epstein? Is this the first time anyone’s found out UK Business Secretary was carrying out what looks like insider trading using levers of governmental power in UK, with an investment financier friend?

Has she paid her tax due?
If Angela Rayner is the answer, the wrong question is definitely being asked.
She’s no Mandelson, who can keep coming back again until yet another scandal finally kills her off almost three decades later.
Angela Rayner is not the answer to any question relating to the government of this country. Maybe “how can we fuck things up more”.
The question is, who do we put our money on? Not who would be best, or who would we like, but who will win?
Northern accent = thick as shit
Thank goodness none of my university exams were orals, or it would have been an instant fail.

Ok, coming from you that's convinced me. It has to be Rayner. Sorry Wes.
Although you’re stuck and will be stuck with Starmer so there’s that.
Maybe, maybe not. It's essentially up to the MPs if and when he goes.
What was known about Mandelson by the general public on the day of his appointment was enough to disqualify him from any important government position
He had been fired twice for impropriety
Then we knew he was friends with a paedo billionaire crook

Correct. Being wise after the event by the likes of Badenoch is not a good look. I don't want to be partisan but it was generally those of us on the left who disdn't approve of Mandelson's appointment. Confirmed the conservatives will use their opposition day debate tomorrow to call on the government to publically release evidence of the papar trail documents relevant to Mandelson
PMQs and this tomorrow will be quite a day in the HOC
Very narrow target
Won't be anything to see
Kemi will miss 6 open goals and then another open goal
Kemi will be gone well before Starmer
She really hasn't thought this through...
Labour will commit to releasing the documents ar 12 noon.
I presume that we can assume that the intelligence services knew more about Mandelson than the general public knew when he was appointed Ambassador
What information was given to the Prime Minister that he forensically ignored?
What information was withheld from Starmer by the intelligence services?
Presumably none, because the security services didn't know the really juicy stuff.
(At least I hope they didn't know. If the spooks knew this for the last fifteen years and told nobody, that's even worse than them not knowing.)
Their whole job is to know stuff the rest of us don’t.
Surely they put everything in the vetting file on Mandy that went to the PM? Otherwise, the PM is going to say that the security services failed to vet him properly, to the point that the head of MI5’s job could be on the line.

Ok, coming from you that's convinced me. It has to be Rayner. Sorry Wes.
Ginger space between the ears as Prime Minister?
Fucking hell...
We are desperate
LOL at the idea of Rayner or Cooper turning up to meet Trump, Xi, Putin…
That’s not sexist by the way, look at Kaja Kallas, Ursula VdL, Meloni, all clearly top class stateswomen. I just don’t think any of the current UK Labour group of women could do it.
In an interview with NPR, Melinda French Gates confirmed that she ended her marriage with Bill Gates because of allegations contained in the Epstein files.

No one who was here/there will ever be able to forget seeing Mandelson in his underpants!
I know he wouldn't normally actually step foot in such a hell hole himself, but these are increasingly desperate times...

Oddly enough this just popped up on my Twitter feed !!
😂😂
If the Met announce a criminal investigation on to Mandelson and his actions in 2009 and 2010 to the current day, how would this pact on as an example disclosure of all documents around his ambassador role. If he deliberately withheld information then, it could constitute part of any criminal case eg false representation.
To what degree does a criminal investigation close down parliamentary investigation.?
They have announced the criminal investigation
It will not change the question of Starmer's judgement in appointing him
What more evidence is required?
What information was given to the Prime Minister that he forensically ignored?
One is to restrict women's rights and freedoms and access to education, making them dependent on men in their life.
No-one knows what the second way is yet.
PMQs and this tomorrow will be quite a day in the HOC
Be fun to watch.
His paunchy paws are all over it
Conservative Party don’t want to lose Starmer.
Is he going to blame it on Cooper?
Why are the Democrats so opposed to this, to the point that Chuck Schumer is saying that voter ID is Jim Crow 2.0?

A criminal investigation has been launched into allegations Peter Mandelson passed market-sensitive information to the paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Commander Ella Marriott, from the Metropolitan Police, said: “Following the further release of millions of court documents in relation to Jeffrey Epstein by the United States Department of Justice, the Met received a number of reports into alleged misconduct in public office including a referral from the UK Government.

"This by-election is between us and Reform’s toxic politics."
He seems to have overlooked the Greens. The real fight is between Labour and Green for the "Keep Reform Out" vote.

The irony is, if this is what *finally* ends Starmer's premiership (as the historically low polls, constant u-turns, economy, anger of his own MPs, etc don't seem to have), Kingmaker Mandelson's long-term protege will ascend straight to No 10.
The opposition parties are doing what they do in circumstances like this
And if Starmer falls and Rayner or similar comes to power the bond markets will react and Truss 2 beckons
81 mps is only 20% of the party and the fury in the party is off the scale
If Starmer goes it will be his mps who remove him
That’s not sexist by the way, look at Kaja Kallas, Ursula VdL, Meloni, all clearly top class stateswomen. I just don’t think any of the current UK Labour group of women could do it.
(At least I hope they didn't know. If the spooks knew this for the last fifteen years and told nobody, that's even worse than them not knowing.)

Oh hang on a minute... Kemi would decline the opportunity
She would prefer Tel Avo, Rome and Erm... Argentina
Thank goodness none of my university exams were orals, or it would have been an instant fail.
He had been fired twice for impropriety
Then we knew he was friends with a paedo billionaire crook
Then the Prime Minister appointed him
Is as thick as shit. As is Jenrick. Hague wasn’t. Neither is Burnham. She’s objectively as thick as shit. You just like her because she’s northern. And in your mind that means she’s beyond criticism.
Won't be anything to see
Kemi will miss 6 open goals and then another open goal
Kemi will be gone well before Starmer
She really hasn't thought this through...
Labour will commit to releasing the documents ar 12 noon.
Check mate
Surely they put everything in the vetting file on Mandy that went to the PM? Otherwise, the PM is going to say that the security services failed to vet him properly, to the point that the head of MI5’s job could be on the line.
