    The BBC in fact went out of its way to help its 'talent' pay less tax and itself to pay less NI (but not complain about welfare cuts). This govt is going out of its way to fight aggressive tax avoidance.

    The Guardian Media Group are based in the Cayman Islands and use hedge funds to stay alive. Should be fun when this becomes public. One reason I absolutely detest Labour is the appalling hypocrisy.
    I will confess I find the left a little more likely to fall afoul of such hypocrisy, perhaps because they seem more likely to claim to be morally superior than the Tories, which can lead to some lazy tactics from Labour at times. The Tory lazy attacks seem less likely to bounce back and hit themselves by comparison, for some of them at least.

    Edit: I don't actually like using the left-right nonsense spectrum as a means of analysing parties, I don't think there is any ideological consistency to support the notion certainly anymore, but as a self identifying label each uses it's unavoidable sometimes.

    It always amazes me how the Guardian go massive on tax avoidance with their fellow travelers at the BBC, and if they are ever challenged on this, they take quite unbelievable positions. Polly Tonybee had some crazy arguments how it wasn't, well it was, but different etc.

    I would think the reason they can get away with such massive hypocrisy is, all the media lot are at it. The way the industry works allows for very flexible payments structures, most are contractors and when you aren't on regimented PAYE, lots of opportunities arise.

    The IT sector used to go to town on this, but Brown clamped down on it...well caused a mess as usual with unintended consequences, but the IT "consultants" of the past certainly can't get away with what they used to*...but it seems likes media lot still do.

    * I remember working for a company 15 years ago, where they couldn't get full time employees for love nor money. People would only work as a contractor, as the ability at that time to avoid taxes were so huge, it just wasn't worth their while to take a full time role.

    Ooh, that is a good one. People do seem less inclined to give them a pass on it, however. I feel a little sorry for them in that respect.

    None of them are in it together though are they? Not Hodge/Stemcor, not Balls/Cooper with their £500,000 pa income, not the Guardian Media Group based in the Cayman Islans.

    He has donated to both Tories and Labour in the UK....used to be a big mate of Lord Levy, you know when he was the man to know if ........ Ended up giving Labour a £2 million "loan".

    More recently gave the Tories some dosh.

    The last time I looked tax avoidance was completely legal and was even during the Labour years as well. Tax evasion is illegal and it is those that they should go after. Either that or change the rules and the law.

    What I cannot understand is your complete inability to see this is an across the board issue. You are blind to your own people while criticising others. I guess that's what the left just do as it's ok when you do it but not any others.

    Yes indeed: they're not doing any locally, according to my sources, but the central operation feeds the database. The problem is the lack of accurate phone data - the best available commercial source seems to have about one third of households. It is genuinely difficult to run an effective campaign without many people on the ground, as I know in reverse from areas where Labour is thinly populated. Everything else, from DMs to YouTube, is second best to actually talking to people.
