    The other thought that came to mind is a scene from those classic HBO shows of the early 2000s like Boardwalk Empire, where the main character wanders towards the camera while we see in the background somebody is getting stuffed in bag by the henchmen.

    I recently rewatched BBC series McMafia. Very unrated show and combination of usual BBC too slow to secure talent, COVID, Ukraine / Russia, killed chance for it to go further.

    At the Grammar School I attended we had a choice at the end of the year at which we were 14. Latin, History and Geography or Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Plus, of course English, Maths and two languages.
    Somewhat to the Headmaster's annoyance I chose the Science option, and other than the rather primitive Latin associated with prescription writing I've had no contact with the language since. That was a 73 years ago!
    If he is to stay at a Public School he must aim at becoming educated. If he is to be solely a scientific specialist, he is wasting time at a Public School.

    Vine suggesting he had a brain injury started all that nonsense, as others have posted below it's a calamitous verdict which reinforces everything that's wrong with free speech in Britain right now - it should have never gone to th criminal courts let alone had a guilty verdict our civil libel system should have been perfectly able to deal with it (Which itself is too easy to fall foul of but that's another issue)

    It's been like that for years, decades even. Just didn't get reported.
    Was there ever a time when a judge was in-the-loop for every release? Or has it always been the prison services job to follow the sentence?

    There was a scandal maybe 15 years ago about people being released from prison who should have been sent to deportation centres. That got supposedly fixed, so I wonder why a more wide-ranging overhaul wasn't done, w.r.t all release procedures.

    If you have ever done jury service you will probably be aware that juries can vary considerably in their outlook and intelligence. I wouldn't draw too many conclusions about national beliefs from a single case.

    I am not dismissing the current fiasco. I was just suggesting the story might be more important today (despite McCann raping whilst on the run) with a non-Conservative Government in office.

    There is also an argument to suggest that the guy captured today should have left the country in 2019. So we can blame the following Home Secretaries, Patel, Braverman, Shapps, Braverman (again) Cleverly, Cooper and Mahmood for keeping him here.
