The Israeli attack on Iran looks increasingly audacious and clever. They’ve taken out half of Iran’s leadership. They’ve paralysed Tehran
Unbelievable stuff
“Similar patterns to the Hezbollah attack. This will likely be revealed as one of the largest operations in modern history. Well-protected sites, top regime officials and key scientists are being targeted. The culmination of decades of Israeli intelligence work inside Iran.”
Mossad agents smuggled weapons into Iran and destroyed Iran’s missile capability from within. So now Iran is defenceless and Israel is pounding the nuclear sites. They won’t stop until it is all pulverised
In this instance I am entirely pro Israel. Go Jerusalem. I hope they take out the entire Iranian elite and the Iranian people are liberated
And yet the audacious and clever Israelis can’t employ a single talking head that might get the rest of the world that aren’t right wing lunatics to feel sympathy towards them. I’ll put that in their ‘things they are very bad at’ folder.
They really, really don't care.
Tell me if I've got this wrong.
Netanyahu knows he'll lose power the minute Israel isn't at war. The war with Gaza is 'petering' out, mainly because they've now murdered nearly everyone anyway. So he needs a new war to avoid facing the music. So he attacks Iran. That'll keep a nice long war going. Fuck Iran, and to be fair, fuck his own civilians and military who will also be murdered in the war. At least he keeps power.
Is it more complicated than that?
No, its less complicated than that.
Iran is seeking nuclear weapons. Iran can't be allowed to get nuclear weapons. Israel can deal with it. Nobody else wants to deal with it. Israel have dealt with it.
You don’t see any potential downsides to an escalating conflict between Israel and Iran that might equal the risks of Iran having a couple of bombs?
You’re not willing to consider the Iranian perspective (whether or not you agree with it) and why it may want the bomb, and think about ways the West could help it decide not to purse that route via peaceful negotiation?
Military action of all kinds is messy and painful, and civilians die. You try the other stuff first.
No, I absolutely do not.
That "other stuff" has been tried. The IAEA confirmed Iran is not meeting its obligations. It's had decades to do so.
At what point is enough enough for you?
If not now, then when?
If you can't provide a when, your objection isn't credible.
I just got flagged for a backhanded compliment I gave to @Leon on the previous thread. Did I get the flag from a Leon dissenter for complimenting Leon or a flag from the Leon fan club for the backhanded bit?

I am fascinated to know how Mossad / Israeli special forces get into Central Iran. It isn't like there are friendly countries around Iran that Israel could launch such an incursion from and they can hardly fly in.

I thought I just accidentally flagged @taz on the previous thread. If it was me it was fat finger. But does Flag work the same as Like, one touch and it's done? Don't you need to say why?
If they were surveying political drinks, they should have polled window-cleaning fluid, boot polish or toothpaste.
That is what people were forced to drink in the last days of the Soviet Union as even vodka was in short supply, and so have always struck me as the ultimate socialist tipples for the masses, though the elite of course continued to quaff champagne.
A few more years of Reevesonomics and we'll probably be that desperate.

You don't need to say why: it's just one touch and TSE gets an alert.

BREAK: Rupert Lowe sends a letter to Chief Sec Darren Jones, demanding an urgent public correction to his false statement on national television last night.
- Bitter - Lager (but only on sunny summer days) - Wine - Whisky (single malts) - Brandy
And, of course, not all of every category is acceptable. Blue Nun might be "wine", but it is no way an acceptable beverage.
Cocktails are almost always the sign of some kind of mental breakdown - with very few exceptions. An Aperol Spritz, if imbibed on a warm summer evening, ideally in the garden of a grand European hotel, might be acceptable. And I have been told that there occasions when a Negroni might permissable: if sat next to @Leon for example, and seeking oblivion in as short a time as possible.
BREAK: Rupert Lowe sends a letter to Chief Sec Darren Jones, demanding an urgent public correction to his false statement on national television last night.
Leaving aside the twisted ironies of populist parties being particularly interested in the concept of truth, I do think this is yet another example of the Labour Party losing the public due to defaulting to obfuscation and lack of honesty.

It also looks like the faintest slither of an olivey looking twig from Lowe to Yusuf. Given the latter tried to have the former arrested, it is notable.

Yes, a second touch unflags it.
Thanks. I just tried to unflag that comment and it didn't so presumably not me (or too late).

It isn't even a clever lawyerly type obfuscation. It is easy to demonstrate it is untrue and also the public already well aware of this, in fact most of the public don't believe there are even many genuine asylum seekers among them.
It isn't like making some claim about something the public won't really understand, will find hard to work out and could be measured if different ways which gives you plenty of wiggle room. That been said we do know that Labour have had a lot of trouble being able to define what exactly a woman is.
Yet more evidence of how shit our politicians are, they can't even do the lying bending the truth properly.

I’m really into stuff like Grappa, Slivovice, Tsikoudia and all of the spirits distilled in Eastern Europe. Love Kotor in Montenegro where the women sit outside the old city flogging bottles.

I knocked drinking on the head 4 years ago and I'm pretty happy with the non alcoholic beers that are around. I like Mash Gang, Beavertown, Charnwood Brewey...in fact loads of the less well known brands do good stuff. Forget the big brands, although Guiness, Corona and Peroni offer a decent experience. There's a couple of wines that are OKish, Wolf Blass Shiraz and Sauvignon plus Tesco Malbec put up a decent fight. Spirits though, are universally shite. About the best I've found ( and I've tried a lot!) is Pathfinder Hemp and Root. Gives off a bit of a jagermeister vibe. Anyone with any spirit suggestions, please pipe up. I voted Green the past couple of times. Probably should drink a craft IPA.

It's a cocktail and therefore the sign of some kind of mental infirmity or breakdown.

I suspect it would be Georgian champagne which appears quite a lot in Soviet and pre Soviet literature. As our newly departed bon vivant has recounted Georgia has a long and noble winemaking tradition. Of course they’re not allowed to call it champers any more.

Has anyone noticed how impressive Darren Jones is? Surely worth a flutter on next Labour leader. No known skeletons I hope?
Wasn’t it Darren Jones who made the “pocket money” gaffe recently too?
He does come across as a confident media performer (and crikey, the Labour Party don’t have many of them) but he does seem to have developed foot-in-mouth syndrome.

Not these days. Back in the 70s, in Mediterranean Europe, the tonic water still had medicinal levels of quinine in it. Probably where my taste for really bitter stuff comes from.

And I have been told that there occasions when a Negroni might permissable: if sat next to @Leon for example, and seeking oblivion in as short a time as possible.
Also, soju.
I’ve recently discovered Soju.
I’m rather impressed. Hi-You in Newcastle has a good range of far east booze.
The Jinru Plum variant is excellent.
I have a Korean friend who once took me on a tour of Vancouver's South Korean Diaspora hang outs on the Soju.....it was soon all a blur.
I suspect it would be Georgian champagne which appears quite a lot in Soviet and pre Soviet literature. As our newly departed bon vivant has recounted Georgia has a long and noble winemaking tradition. Of course they’re not allowed to call it champers any more.
Georgian reds are excellent. Robust and go well with any red meat.
- Bitter - Lager (but only on sunny summer days) - Wine - Whisky (single malts) - Brandy
And, of course, not all of every category is acceptable. Blue Nun might be "wine", but it is no way an acceptable beverage.

The lack of Stout in this thread is saddening.
I'm sorry, I only included drinks which are actually purchasable.

Georgian fizz can be very good. Usually sweet, though. At least I have seen a dry one, yet.
I just got flagged for a backhanded compliment I gave to @Leon on the previous thread. Did I get the flag from a Leon dissenter for complimenting Leon or a flag from the Leon fan club for the backhanded bit?
You should have been banned, for complimenting Leon on criticising someone else for being the worst kind of ethno-nationalist, devoid of any redeeming features, and for totally missing the irony.
Presumably if Iran were to exit the Nuclear Non-Proliferation treaty - joining India, Pakistan, North Korea, and Israel - that would satisfy your concens?
Of course not.
That would bring it into compliance with international law, but my objection hasn't once been the law.
In line with my long-standing beliefs I don't care too much for international law, which is more guidelines than actual rules anyway.
My concerns are far simpler: Iran can not be trusted with nukes and must be stopped before they get them.
It’s more, I think, that he thought - “Reform are liars. Why can’t I just lie as well”

Classic all the way for me, I'm afraid. None of the flavoured stuff.
So is classic just unflavoured ? I’m in the toon next week and will look it up.
I’ve had a love of plum sake ever since I had some at Michael O’Hare’s place in Leeds.
Always keen to try new stuff.
If flavoured Soju is to S Koreans what fruit flavoured cider is to me, an abomination, I’ll have to try the proper stuff.

Flashman got an awful dose of wind, after drinking Crimean champagne. Then, he farted uproariously, during the Charge of the Light Brigade.
UPDATE: Former Tory MP Craig Williams and 14 other people facing allegations of cheating by gambling on date of last year’s general election are to go on trial.

There’s no other way.
I believe there may have been a healthy dose of Karoke in there too but I can't really remember.

Working class heroes like Sir Nige I understand prefer red wine, a fine quality grape and French of course. Vive la France!

Apologies for wasting everyone's time. It happens when I'm on my smartphone & scrolling with my left hand.

The Tory reform to the duty regime has been a disaster. Loads of beers now 3.4%. May as well drink tap water.
However did she lose

Gin & tonic is not only acceptable, but necessary to prevent malaria

Labour really needs to up it's game on this subject
I’ve had some great cider in Wales.

I have never had malaria

There's a couple of wines that are OKish, Wolf Blass Shiraz and Sauvignon plus Tesco Malbec put up a decent fight.
Spirits though, are universally shite. About the best I've found ( and I've tried a lot!) is Pathfinder Hemp and Root. Gives off a bit of a jagermeister vibe.
Anyone with any spirit suggestions, please pipe up.
I voted Green the past couple of times. Probably should drink a craft IPA.
Middle out...

He does come across as a confident media performer (and crikey, the Labour Party don’t have many of them) but he does seem to have developed foot-in-mouth syndrome.

Back in the 70s, in Mediterranean Europe, the tonic water still had medicinal levels of quinine in it. Probably where my taste for really bitter stuff comes from.
That would bring it into compliance with international law, but my objection hasn't once been the law.

Just popping to load up the nuclear bomb shelter at the end of the garden with extra supplies.
