    Forbes and the SNP is a bit like Churchill's quip about the Americans doing the right thing after having tried all the alternatives. I don't know if Forbes is the right thing for the SNP (I suspect not) but I suspect they will try a lot of alternatives first.

    I suspect this push against Swinney won't get too far. The ringleaders are more Alba than SNP and the progressive wing of the SNP who supported Yousaf and Swinney think Forbes is just too socially conservative and fiscally conservative to lead the SNP even if she might push independence a bit harder

    Not exactly. If the privately educated child turns up at A&E with a a broken leg, of course they will still be treated. The story is about an extra service for children with difficulties with I think speech/comprehension that are not eligible if they are not in the state system.

    No. The Chagos Deal was far more complicated and nuanced - India, our involvement with US on security. The Gibraltar Surrender is completely different. Everything the EU wanted surrendered purely in the Labour Party interest in cuddling up to EU.

    After today’s awful clueless budget, the only thing that can save Labour from a rout at next election is some growth tempting people away from voting against how awful they’ve been, Starmer and gang are going all out on growth - cuddling up to the EU, borrowing and spending, tax and spending, giving EU everything they want. The Gibraltar Surrender epitomises this.

    In theory, yes. And I think TF's position of 'I disapprove of x but don't think it should be illegal' is a perfectly admirable one. Indeed, this is the definition of liberalism: there's nothing particularly liberal about only supporting behaviour you approve of.
    However, in practice this wasn't good enough for his party or for modern 'liberal' opinion.

    IFS pointing out the increase in defence is not coming from the foreign aid cut as previously advertised, that's being used to try and shore up the other departments.

    Precisely why I am so down on this corner of the UK media landscape. Its dross and dangerous dross at that.     The SNP is a very broad church. If it wasn’t for Independence, it’s unlikely @Theuniondivvie and I would be in the same party. In my opinion, Kate Forbes would be by far the best leader, although TUD may not agree. The Sturgeonites will still be waiting in the wings, but their being too close to the Greens alienated Scots outwith the urban Central Belt. There should be two effective indy parties, one on the left and one on the right. After all, there are various shades of unionist parties, even in Northern Ireland.

    The (fuller) story is that the Education Dept pays for education-related treatment for some school children to be delivered by NHS specialists. In 2014 the Coalition government restricted that provision to children in state education or specialist private schooling paid for by the state. It was always provision that came out of the Education budget, not the NHS itself.

    Fast forward to 2025 & some parents of children who were getting said treatment whilst their children went to state school but then went on to send them to private school were understandably confused as to why their children were no longer receiving treatment that they thought was being provided by the NHS & not very happy about having to fund it themselves.

    The Mail then decided to make a story out of it & slap it on the front page so they could claim it was part of “Labour’s campaign against private schools”.

    Yes, although the DT, Mail and Express are still read by quite a lot of people, especially the elderly. They get a distorted view of the country that has real-life consequences for some of them, who think the streets aren't safe, we live in a crime-ridden cesspool, and it's unsafe to stray far from home. So they limit their lives and experiences.
