    I genuinely don't want to hate on Elon all the time, but he seems to have a knack for making himself unlikeable to Democrats and Republicans now.

    Sure, he's still super rich and retains a good number of fanboys for now, but he clearly wants attention and adoration and not just wealth, and he's undermined that a lot.

    Whereas Bezos seems to be happy to be regarded as your standard billionaire tyrant type.

    To give her her due, she does talk a good game & it's worth a listen.

    Like Starmer's Govt, they have 4 years to deliver, and that is how they will be judged.

    One of the things Linden Kemkaran does is to swat Camilla Tominey's speculation about "hundreds of millions" of savings and cuts in Council Tax with a suggestion of "at least £75m". That is 3% of KCC spending and sounds to me like the type of number they will have to save just to meet Rachel Reeves' efficiency requirements. It sounds to me as if they will aim to simply withdraw from offering certain services, if they think it can be palmed off.

    I think one thing that RefUK need to do if they are serious is benchmarking across their Councils, but they have punched all their staff on the nose with threats before even taking over.

    As per previous thread, what if Yusuf has gone because he called Pochin’s question dumb, but Farage is planning to make it party policy.

    It wouldn’t surprise me. It generates headlines, from the polling I’ve just checked it seems to generally attract public support, Farage needs to move onto the next thing to keep getting attention, it’s a very “Reform” distinctive policy. He’ll get a lot of people accusing him of dog whistle politics but does it damage his brand in any meaningful way? Will the people who it angers the most ever vote for him anyway?

    But he's not wrong. The reason Trump won isn't because the USA is full of Trumpite loons, it's because the 80% in the middle leaned towards what they saw as the less unattractive of two extremes.

    SpaceX's lunar lander isn't going too well at the moment. Blue Origin has a greater chance of getting to the Moon first. And that's saying something...

    The second episode of Last of Us season 2 is excellent - well worth a standalone watch. The rest of the season is an incoherent mess.

    Elon's comments are going down well and seem to have hit a nerve.

    If Elon really wanted to save the US government money, he could stop taking their handouts for Tesla and SpaceX. The only reason Tesla made any profit last quarter was due to regulatory credits. Doge could save the US government billions a year just by stopping those).

    And now Trump is more interested in Mars than the Moon, there's zero reason to pay SapceX for a lunar lander, and some of the money can go back into NASA's science!
    I assumed the whole reason Musk went in so deep with Trump was to ensure the credits remained in place.
    He also wants the US government to pay for his Mars dreams. Hence the administration's refocus from the Moon to Mars. And - disgustingly - the gutting of NASA's science work. SpaceX doesn't do space science.

    (In the past, Musk was scathing about going back to the Moon. He was a Mars First guy. But when the government started offering billions to go to the Moon, he changed his mind...)

    It would be hilarious if Trump set out a real Mars project, and miraculously SpaceX got none of the contracts... :)

    SpaceX's lunar lander isn't going too well at the moment. Blue Origin has a greater chance of getting to the Moon first. And that's saying something...
    They're about a lot more than the moon lander.

    Getting into the space electronics business is smart. They're probably by some stretch their own largest customer for now, but specialist chip packaging for the space environment is going to be a huge business.

    I like some recent comedies. And The Stage - as I said - is quite brilliant

    Trouble is they are eight episodes of 25 minutes. It’s not enough. It’s a starvation diet. I like ten or twelve hour long episodes of drama that I can binge!

    Maybe Succession was the farewell of the Golden Age. The Medici tomb of the TV Renaissance

    If so, quite fitting

    I think - having listened to the audio books - they've got the tone about right for the telly. Bit mind-candy, but with the odd 'whoah!' moment to keep you engaged.

    Department Q on Netflix is trying a bit too hard but still watchable. Good, grainy downbeat views of Edinburgh.
