I'm not having a pop at you by the way Daveyboy. I'm pleased for you that you've got yourself into this position.

I don't take it personally, but we do live frugally.
I live frugally too doesnt help....I have in my house a computer desk and computer as I work from home, a dining table and a double bed....notice I didnt mention a tv, a stereo, a sofa there. I havent owned a car for 15 years though I have a licence...only time I go out is when I take my father out the home once a week and buy him a pint....how much more frugal should I get?
Wow, I am getting to realize how difficult you find managing. What do you do if you don't mind me asking?
I am a software engineer. High enough paid to pay 40% tax even....by the time I pay rent, council tax, mobile, internet, gas, electric however thats pretty much 70% gone and no I have a monthly giff gaff contract for 20£ so not spending on toys, I do spend money on taking my father out for a day from the home and that costs me about 400£ a month is my only extravagance
Just calcualated since 87 been in paye jobs apart from four years.....on my calculation 2025 - 1987 = 38 years - 4 for the years not been paye well 34 minimum.....why do they say 20 years
Phone them. Both DWP and HMRC. The websites have been unreliable in my experience, still more so the advice on how best to fill gaps without overpaying.

And look at Which and Martin Lewis websites to see what they say, if you haven't..
The website does list the years in detail that are fully paid, or not, so Pagan could use that data to locate the companies he was looking for at the time. Maybe they didn't send off the NI money or had got his NI number wrong?
Only worth my time if I expect to be a pensioner which I dont
You can still work and collect your pension you know. It may help.
Assuming I live till 67 which I dont
Don't worry, to the best of my knowledge @Leon has never actually carried out any of his threats.

No need for commiserations you count your life in terms of how you lived not how long, only two members of my family went past 67 and dont want to be either of them because they went the dementia route post 70

For now, and armed with the loudest megaphone on the planet, the US president can keep reality at bay. But eventually, Americans will be able to see with their own eyes and in their own lives what Trump has done to the US and the wider world. Their daily experience will expose him for what he is: a confidence trickster who has made them poorer and less safe. The only question is when.

No. The other question is what they are prepared to do when they find out.

It is fairly staggering that one of the first things the new Canadian PM has to say is that they're never going to become part of the USA.

If the Canadians do turn off the 'lecky to the US, Donald will have to turn down the level on his sunbed to moderately orange...

Interesting that Johnson's attempts to defend Trump in the Mail are met with a barrage of vitriol, from its readers.

They were once his key base.

Times have changed, and Starmer will have political opportunities with European relations

I got the Nothing earbuds, and my wife and two kids both dumped their Apple Airpods for them.

The only problem is that had to get stickers for the cases, so that we don't accidentally pick up the wrong ones when leaving the house. (Happened on multiple occasions. And my daughter's ears are wax heaven.)

Reading Boris's piece, I think he is close to turning on Trump?

To me it reads like: Hi Don, you're not going to give Putin what he wants are you? If you do you will look like a weak, pathetic loser. You don't want to so that? Do you?

That's how to celebrate everything that makes a 21st century Western country great. Recognition of the original stewards of the land, the British Crown, the French language, and a link to Canada's current diversity, compassion and ambition. Brilliant.

As we start to get used to and normalise Trump's behaviour, it's good to have a reference to what leadership can and should look like.

Exactly the same as me. What a coincidence!
I don't think the algorithm behind this is very complex. ;)

For me, a low BMI, not much alcohol intake, fairly sporty, and reasonably good diet probably all helped. Although some of those are a bit vague: what happens if you drink alcohol only once a week, but it's a Hague effort?

Not that I'd want to live to 109. Although several of my relatives (on my dad's side) reached at least 100.

They still send them out I think? Think you have to request it though?

    Google says: Milestone Celebrations:
The King sends messages for 100th birthdays, 105th birthdays, and every year after, as well as for Diamond (60th), 65th, and Platinum (70th) wedding anniversaries and every year thereafter.

Mark Carney evokes Canada's "proud British heritage" and "bilingual identity" in first address as prime minister.

The anglo-french mix has always been a key part of what's made Canada great.

We had a personally signed diamond anniversary card

Genuine Charles and Camilla's signatures and yes the Palace has to be notified of the forthcoming anniversary

Maybe the UK are indulging in a bit of good cop/bad cop with Trump?

France, as part of the EU, would find it much more difficult to play the good cop, but given Trumps personality it probably makes sense to have the UK being a little less confrontational.

For Trump it's just a mega TV show. It's the Apprentice ++.
All he craves is an enormous audience, constant attention and high approval ratings. It's not 4D chess. It's just continuous conflict.
    Great TV.

His father, who has a lot to answer for, was a bit of a brute, and didn't give him any attention and withheld approval.

Similarly my grandfather spent 1916 on the Somme as an infantry private, then 17-18 in Mesopotamia and died aged 86. It doesn't mean that the Somme was a safe spot for a summer holiday!

I think most people feel similarly.

Yesterday, I saw a headline which stated "the Queen" wrote in support to Gisele Pelicot and it wasn't until I started reading the piece that I realized they were talking about the Queen (Camilla) rather than THE Queen, even though she'd have to be writing from beyond the grave, lol!

    Indeed.

The nagging worry is that the website wasn't reliable in the past. There was a surprrisingly long delay in updating it.

I have no idea if it has been remedied.

But trying to work out the money needed to pay for the optimum combination was another matter entirely especially when there could be some years where one only needed to pay £100 or something silly to tip over the boundary trigger).

Whatever, there does seem to be something wrong in poor Pagan's case.

Thing is Don is hiding in plain sight. Is that a cunning tactic? It’s certainly different from the contemporary masters: Putin, man of few words, gradually ratcheting it up over decades; Xi, ruthlessly imposing internal control while playing it cool internationally; Erdogan, always maintaining the thuggery at a suitably quiet level. Trump is barking way ahead of his bite; the rest do the opposite.

Just calcualated since 87 been in paye jobs apart from four years.....on my calculation 2025 - 1987 = 38 years - 4 for the years not been paye well 34 minimum.....why do they say 20 years
So idiot software engineer probably fucked up the calculations.

Could well be....worry is computer says x so its correct mentality
Call them and talk to them
Why bother I sort it out....I eventually maybe to get to retirement age ten go through the whole thing again because despite sorting out being civil servants they wont actually modify the computer records to be correct....

I speak as a man who got taken to court for non payment of poll tax for year x....presented my stamped payment book as proof which they took and photocopied told no case to answer.
Following year they took me to court again for non payment of poll tax for year x....repeat
Mrs C and I phoned them re our state pensions, partly because Mrs C (like Mrs DavidL) couldn't even get on the online system to check it (some stupid bug with the address).

Extremely helpful folk at both HMRC and DWP. Explained how to sort it out and how much to pay to wrap it all up.

Does the king send out telegrams for everyone who reaches 100, or did that stop with the queen's passing?

They still send them out I think? Think you have to request it though?
    Not telegrams anymore

We had a personally signed diamond anniversary card

Genuine Charles and Camilla's signatures and yes the Palace has to be notified of the forthcoming anniversary
Ah how nice. I bet that's taken pride of place? ❤

I know someone who's parents got a card from the her majesty, the late Queen, for their diamond anniversary.
It certainly seemed to impress family and friends as it is quite a large elaborate card

Mind you my wife and I would have preferred the Queens signature as we lived throughout the whole of her reign and whilst not very royal orientated we did have a huge respect for the Queen

I’m getting there with Chaz. Rumour has it he might be turning up for a reunion dinner at my old educational establishment at the end of this month. I’m looking forward to seeing him. The last time was in the late 80s at a wedding at Hereford cathedral where Wills was a page boy and Charles was there with both Di and Camilla.

What I don't get is where are the Dems in all of this madness?

Its like they handed over the White House and were never seen or heard from again?

I've not known a band of political campaigners so disappear to quickly since Vote Leave vanished like snow in June on 23rd June 2016... 😂

No need to worry about me I have retirement plans for when I am finally forced out that will get me a warm place to sleep, 24 hour monitoring 3 meals a day and no dealing with social services
You're going to the House of Lords? Lucky!
    Nope step 1 buy shotgun
step 2 walk in an open bank branch fire at the ceiling
step 3 surrender to the police
step 4 plead not guilty and insult the judge at every opportunity
step 5 enjoy my government provided food and board for the next ten to 15 years and refuse to claim guilty for parole purposes

BREAKING: The Russian captain of the Solong container ship involved in the North Sea crash has been charged with gross negligence manslaughter.

Time until the Kremlin JD Vance claims he's a British political prisoner in 5... 4... 3...
    Fixed it for you
The fact he (allegedly) drove full steam ahead into a tanker full of USAF jet fuel might give the Yanks pause for thought.

While life expectancy rose from around 72 to 82, healthy life expectancy only raised from 61 to 63......so on average you are living an extra 7 years in poor health. An argument I have with a doctor on the rare occasion I get to see one when he tells me if I lived healthier I will live longer and I ask why do I want to spend more years in adult diapers like my father

Would it work with my great grandmother who smoked 40 a day most of her life and lived to the age of 101.
How did she even have the time to smoke that many? My mum managed 20 a day chain smoking (dead at 45).
In the 50s I knew quite a few 40 a day smokers though not me
40 a day is only one every 24 minutes of waking time hardly chain smoking
Even chain smokers are not literally always with a fag in their mouths?
You never met a chain smoker then, I know a few that light the new cigarette of the old one
I used to do that a fair amount, long ago.
