Doubled my money on two cash out bets during this match: on Uruguay winning and a 2-1 scoreline. The amounts involved were puny though.

    Good evening, everyone.

Mr. Eagles, are you suggesting that Uruguay are being treated by England in a similar manner to the way in which the King of Bithynia treated Caesar?

FPT: Mr. Socrates, if he'd gone west, having survived in Babylon, he would have crushed Rome. By strange coincidence, an uncle (I think) of Pyrrhus (himself Alexander's cousin) called Alexander headed west before his namesake went east. Epirot Alexander sadly enjoyed no more success than Pyrrhus.

Mr. Flightpath, in a recent episode of Farscape the Peacekeeper grunts had similar problems.

Edited extra bit: cheers to Mr. Hayfield for his regular piece.

What a disappointment. If there's one hope that will come out of this terrible World Cup performance, it's that it'll be a shock to the system. The FA are an incompetent inept organisation that have failed to properly develop English talent for decades. It's about time the government stepped in, broke up the old boys' club and put in professional management. Then we might finally get the national youth development fitting for a football league of premiership quality.

Come on the Azzurri! A 2 or 3 goal victory against Costa Ricaand it's on for England to go through. Biggest problem is that whilst England need Italy to win 2 games, the Italians don't need to themselves.

We were never going to get far this World Cup, it makes sense to play younger players rather than 33 year olds to help develop them for future tournaments.

This isn't Hodgson's fault. It's the FAs for years and years and of poor youth development. We have the second best football league in the world, yet our players coming through are worthy of being about 15th.

Defeat is defeat is defeat. Total clear out and total rethink is needed. This is the worst England team for 20 years, or more.

The problem your countrymen face is that while the English Premiership is widely regarded as the best domestic league in the world, the reason it is so is because most of its stars like Suarez are not English but foreigners, drawn by the obscene wage levels paid.

The other night I heard some of the commentators starting the usual crap about English players being expected to play too many league matches etc always forgetting that most of the players in the leading teams at the World Cup e.g. RVP happen to play in precisely the same league matches.

YouGov/Sun poll tonight - Labour lead remains four points: CON 33%, LAB 37%, LD 8%, UKIP 15%

About as surprising as England's world cup results. I have some sympathy this time for England. They were okay against Italy and not THAT bad tonight. Uruguay took their chances. I hope also those people who slated Liverpool fans for being tough on Hodgson now have some idea why that was.

Defeat is defeat is defeat. Total clear out and total rethink is needed. This is the worst England team for 20 years, or more.
The 1994 team was worse, but entirely because of Graham Taylor. But before that, you'd have to go back to the 70s.
The 86 team weren't bad either

Wayne Rooney is refusing to write off England's chances in the World Cup.

    Mainly because he can't write.

If you want to grasp at YouGov polls and believe Ed will win, good luck. He is competing with Michael Foot to be the least successful Labour leader of the past 4 decades.

Its about time we had a GB football team. We'd get Gareth Bale and really piss off the SNP. Double win.

England only win World Cups under LAB Governments FACT.

The last 2 World Cups have coincided with Labour leadership changes. You won't get that lucky this time...

England never had a chance. They(the players) are seriously overpaid(for what they achieve) and the Premier League is stuffed with foreign players. We may have the best league, but we will never get the best team.

There was a brilliant Rooney joke on Mock the Week.. He will never live that incident down.
