Australian PM Julia Gillard won a 2012 leadership spill against former PM Kevin Rudd before Rudd beat her in a leadership spill the following year. However the Australian Labor Party was trailing.by a significantly larger margin in the polls than the Tories areRichard_Nabavi said:0 -

There have - but no more than usual for any Tory leader, as far as I can remember.Richard_Nabavi said:
On the other hand there have been some distinct murmurings over the past couple of weeks - Boris, obv (but that's not really news), but also Nick Boles, Sarah Wollaston. Nicholas Soames, Grant Schapps again. I thought that was just noise and the usual suspects, but maybe there is something more concerted going on.Mortimer said:The no confidence letter count resets to zero, presumably, after a vote?
I just don't see what is in it to have a confidence vote now. She won't lose it, because Brexit, and there isn't an obvious successor, so she'll also get the 'steady as we go' vote. There isn't an election imminent, and we're polling in the 40s.
Thinking aloud, and contingent on a positive answer to my first question, the only advantage to having a vote now would seem to be that it resets the count to zero....
I don't think plotters have the numbers. Would be hilarious if they think they do but actually don't. As you say, makes it harder to change leader in future....0 -

Does the vote itself happen very quickly after the letter threshold is reached?TheScreamingEagles said:FWIW I think if 100 or more Tory MPs fail to back Mrs May then she’s toast.

I’m still in the bad books from last year when Mrs May scheduled the general election to coincide with my girlfriend’s birthday. Richard_Nabavi said:

The Tory vote of confidence is very rapid.
In 2003 the threshold to trigger a vote was reached just before 11am on Tuesday.
The following day IDS lost the vote.
If the leader loses the vote they are automatically barred from standing in the subsequent leadership election.
The Labour Party take note.

You can have borders, you just don't check passports. (Just like between Ireland and the UK during the Troubles.)RobD said:http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/01/24/spain-beefs-border-security-fears-exiled-catalan-leader-plotting/
