@ALP `A well designed software system has the potential to be even more effective, in the vast majority of cases, than a conventional face to face medical diagnosis, as it won't be prone to human error and can exhaust all possible diagnoses in a way that no doctor or nurse can.`
That`s such a rubbish statement betraying your complete lack of knowledge about this field. There are hundreds and hundreds of causes for each symptom that depending upon a computer to diagnose which are serious is a fool`s game.A computer is no match for years of experience gained in picking up tiny cues from patients.
There is as yet no evidence that any of the companies contracting at £ 7 to 9 per call are making or can make a profit .
That is their risk, Mark. It is how a competitive market works.
New entrants are encouraged into a market when existing operators make higher than average profits.
Competitors exit a market when they are no longer able to make profits.
This process ensures that, over time, prices and costs remain competitive and market participants earn a reasonable return on capital employed.
That may be true but your earlier post falsely implied that companies were operating successfully charging £ 7 to 9 per call but it is far too soon to tell if that is so or even whether all the current companies will follow NHS and pull out over the next 12 months .

I suppose you get what you pay for.If you pay 7 to 9 pounds per call,we now see what the private sector does. They stuff the call centres with poorly trained non-clinical staff to make a profit who then send everyone to A&E.And then the A&E and ambulance services gets overloaded and we have got a crisis on our hands.I am all for the private sector but it is not the panacea for everything that`s for sure.
Previously I asked Carl to list his 5 worst changes to the NHS since 2010, he has not answered. Perhaps you could do so. I'm genuinely interested in your opinion as I have virtually no contact with the NHS and don't have anything to compare against. It would be interesting to see if you have actually got any hard issues to comment on, or if you are just yah booing.
1.The cancellation of reconfiguration in hospital services/Polyclinics rollouts that were announced "as a gesture" by Lansley who was pathologically oopposed to the Darzi report. 2.Camerons pledge to keep all DGHs open. 3.The NHS ring fence which led to council services being run down and patients transferred into hospitals and A&Es at many times the cost. 4.The industrial scale redundancies-pay offs and reemployments which went on with the reorganisation 5.The massive increase in new Quangos which have led to specialist service commissioning in particular being left in a state of confusion
111 is just about in the top ten.
Tim, when I want you to white knight for another poster, I'll let you know.
Mike K - ty! Camo has stretched my patience with his non-action on spongers but I think I will stick with him.
Neil - Watford straight up this year - looking forward to passing Palace on their way down!
Shame that Ave_it, you'd look good alongside me and many, many others in purple. Seriously I think, indeed I know, that Cammo will stretch your patience even more with his fraudulent EU promises.

Pretty much agree with that. It would be interesting to get a professional's opinion on this (FoxInSox?), but I'm guessing that patients are not the most reliable witnesses to their own ailments. A good, experienced doctor might be able to pick up on cues that someone reading a script would not. Scripts are particularly bad when they go off-piste. "Oh, I forgot to mention I've got a nose bleed, but it's really not that bad..."
However, it would not surprise me if a computerised script was followed under the old system (hopefully with the ability of the staff to use their own judgements).
What's this double yellow line non-starter? People park on them for a few minutes anyway to pop into a shop for something specific after a quick scan for wardens. Stupid idea.
So if people do it anyway why is it a stupid idea to create a safe harbour that means they are not breaking the law?
