@KateAndrs: And we're off: As junior doctors strike, BMA tells them it's not their fault if people die https://t.co/bEVFkNDBs4

    It never is, is it?

The BMA's view on the matter will count for little with the public. Nor will politicians, for that matter. Voters will make their own minds up.

Mark Senior..You seem a little confused..first you say no one will suffer and then you say those that do will be the sole responsibility of Hunt..Is Hunt the one who is refusing to be in the Hospital alleviating pain..right gotcha..

No, Hunt's the one out to bolster his union-bashing, public sector-reforming image in time for the leadership election we know will be held some time in the next three years. Settling the dispute won't get him into Number Ten.

On topic: Boris is finished, surely? Lots of people in the party like Boris, he's been a great Mayor, he's a fantastic speech-maker, and he has that 'star' quality, but there has always been doubt about how serious a figure he is. That doubt has now been decisively resolved, and not in his favour. I expect he'll stand down at the next election and resume his journalistic and speaking career.

As TSE and I have both been saying, he won't make the final two.
    I agree.

That's my view. If he does get through to the membership he has a good chance but he won't.

Even some Leavers are wishing he wasn't on their side.

The stop Osborne movement in the PCP is pretty large, but the stop Boris movement is even larger.

Tbh, even among members there isn't much enthusiasm for Boris, especially after his continual failures during the Leave campaign. He had a chance to convince sceptics like me that he was fit to be PM, so far he has been left wanting.

Local election forecast for next week . There are 2 sets of forecast gains/losses based on differing methodologies Rallings and Thrasher based on council by elections and NEV share and Stephen Fisher based on national polls and previous election history
    These are
Lab Rand T minus 150 Fisher minus 151
    Con R and T plus 50 Fisher plus 19
    LDem R and T plus 40 Fisher plus 93
UKIP R and T plus 40 Fisher no forecast but approx plus 20

It is a bit unclear as to how gains/losses will be calculated in those councils which have all out elections on new boundaries . For example Knowsley has 63 councillors all Labour and will have 45 new councillors almost certainly all Labour - does that represent no change or Labour minus 18 .
    My own forecast FWIW is
    Lab minus 100
    Con no change
    LDem plus 60
    UKIP plus 20

All hospital emergency departments are fully staffed today. Under Hunt's plans they won't be because there will be huge gaps in the rota. As usual Hunt is just scare mongering. If your doctor saw unsafe care you would expect them to speak out. That is what they are doing.

Exactly, which harks back to May's speech yesterday.

If the people of Britain really want to leave the EU now, or every five years from 2020, they can do so.

We get this tired argument trotted out all the time, it would be nice to hear a different tune.

People would vote for say the Tories proposing to leave as part of their manifesto, and quite likely Labour as well, UKIP not so much. People may well feel a strong desire to leave the EU, but that doesn't mean they will elect just anyone to run their country for five years to achieve it. If what you say is true George Galloway could put "leave" on the front of his manifesto and get 30% of the vote, seem unlikely.

The problem is now no one would believe either of the main parties even if the put it front and square in their manifesto.

I know there are betting angles to Boris - but seriously, who on here has ever suggested he was PM material?

I can't think of anyone at all. In fact, I'm hard pushed to think of anyone anywhere with the slighest clue that even flies this kite.

It's akin to David Miliband becoming Labour leader ad nauseum.

You might be right, but leaves the cupboard pretty bare for senior Tories with appeal outside the party faithful. Most of the "broad appeal" type Tories have managed to immolate themselves over the referendum.

Boris is a good Party Chairman sort as a frontman - but nothing more IMO.

Me too. I am a heavy layer of Boris.

Although not in the Petronella Wyatt sense.

We already have a 7 day hospital service. Even you are not dim enough to realise this.
