UKIP have tended to fall back in local elections, but have performed well in polling. If their polling holds up, they should win seats in the London and Welsh Assemblies in May. Also, they hardly won anything in the local elections of 2012, so they should still register a fair-sized net gain.

FPT, Don Brind is entitled to argue that Stephen Harper, Lynton Crosby, and Canadian and British Conservatives play the race card. But, he should produce evidence for this, rather than simply assume that it's a given.

If the Dutch polls are correct and Wilders became Dutch PM (or a senior minister), could he even visit the UK (Isn't he banned???).

Yeah, Jacqui Smith tried to have him banned but I think that got overturned. I guess they'll fall back as the election approaches but you never know.

Surprised nobody has mentioned Thanet Council on here

I don't know much about it but it sounds like they've had a disagreement about Manston Airport. I'm always reluctant to read too much into local politics - especially with Ukip, a party who's main concern is very much a national level issue. I tend to think that there are good/bad local councils of all political colours (except Green - they look awful!).

I think that's about right, in general the standard of local councillors ( I probably know 30) is awfully low.
It seems no party has exclusive rights on idiots.

In my experience, about one in three local councillors are capable of purely animal functions.

South Camberwell could be symptomatic of a broader and pointless Green-swing to Labour.

Mopping up green votes in right-on London where Labour already have the MPs.

The Labour candidate's name is Octavia. Speaks volumes.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-34531013 Corbyn does NOT look happy here, at all.
  • My guess is that it won't be hugely different from the list that appeared in the Telegraph the other day.

A very sad thought: October 21st 2015 is the date Marty McFly and Doc Brown travelled forward to in Back to the Future Part 2.

October 21st is Trafalgar day when all right-thinking Englishmen should get just a tad squiffy, or, if they are really patriotic, completely plastered, in celebration of the day we knocked the snot out of the French AND Spanish and in memory of the man would made the glorious victory possible.

That's as maybe, but in the state of Georgia October 15th is the day 2015 property taxes are due, so I'm about to pay Gwinnett County $2700.

I'm sure she is, with her seat and Jamie Reed's seat disappearing in boundary review, with what results they'll be fighting over. Jamie Reed had a twitter feed about as bad as Liz's Kendall... Being a Corbynite in such a scenario is a smart move.

South Camberwell (pre boundary changes) was Kate Hoey's ward before she won the Vauxhall by-election in 1989.
The Dulwich Hamlets FC ground has always been a bone of contention. IIRC they did a deal with Sainsburys - who built a new store in the late 80's next to them I think they may have got a new stadium out of it.

When he came 2nd in Newark, PBers were saying it wasn't Lab and Lib that voted UKIP, they voted Tory tactically... People had inside apparently... Then at the GE labour got almost exactly the number of votes that UKIP lost... They must love a churn there!

The Dem debate was extremely tedious and way too long - basically Bernie, Hillary and a box of rocks.

The GOP model has a different dynamic - two debates for a start. But 3 hours is a long time.

You should explain what the problem with this is.

It is not uncommon amongst heterosexual couples to live in tri-relationships. People make choices. Deal with it.

It's not homophobic per se. It's that you choose to highlight something that happens in heterosexual marriages.

Marriage is not about love, or sex or children. It is a legal construct which has no real function in 2015. But as a bigot, you despise people who are gay, so you highlight this as a way to create the outrage on which all Kippers feed.

Luckily the world is smarter than you are, most people are smarter than you are and Kippers are dying out. That, is a very good thing.

Is it that unusual? If you meet a third person you want to bring into an existing relationship then any marriage will create significant legal barriers to that. I wouldn't suggest it is common but it is definitely not that unusual.

You didn't post such a thing about a heterosexual couple (one of the worlds best known actresses lives in such a situation), you did it because you are a bigot and you despise gay people. You expected to find people joining your pogrom against homosexuals.

Luckily, there isn't much support for your bigotry. I am glad the world has moved on and you are so isolated.

You should explain what the problem with this is.

It is not uncommon amongst heterosexual couples to live in tri-relationships. People make choices. Deal with it.
Who said there was a problem?

I would say it was uncommon though to live in a tri-relationship, as would the huge majority of people... What % of relationships are of that nature?

Showing your prejudices oh enlightened one (in your own mind)

Yes it is unusual. If it were usual it wouldn't be in the newspapers.

I didn't post it about a heterosexual couple because the story I read wasn't about a heterosexual couple.

It's not actually in the papers. It is on a gay lifestyle website that celebrates how people can be together if they feel a bond and will overcome broken laws as much as they can.

Unfortunately I don't subscribe or visit any gay lifestyle websites, so I'll leave the reposts to you. And continue to laugh that you seem obsessed with a lifestyle that you and the rest of Kipperdom appears to detest.

Got to stick up for isam on this one - I saw that story and thought it notable because a couple had split up over a guy and now it was a three person relationship. Maybe it's not so uncommon as to be astonishing, but it is not exactly everyday either, or else it wouldn't be reported on at all (and in a more important measure, if it were common we'd see it depicted a lot more often than it is on TV dramas! - not that I've never seen such an arrangement depicted).

Honestly, for all I know isam is bigoted, for all I know a lot of people on here are, but nothing said on this issue was evidence of that. People say incontestably bigoted and offensive things all the time, and jumping down throats at perceived bigotry which relies on heavy assumptions just lessens the power of the accusation later when it might actually have some weight to it.

    Syria: Some things don't change.

One of the oddest reports out of Syria is the suggestion that Cuban regulars have turned up to man Syrian tanks. Perhaps Cuba's role as proxy forces for the Russians hasn't changed since the Cold War. You wonder whats in it for them these days.

The Israelis appear to have sent their response to the increased presence of various 3rd parties in Syria. They launched airstrikes into Syria, the first since Russian stepped in.

Whether I agree with the choices of the threesome, irrespective of their orientation is a different matter. And unlike Dair I would not write off the institution of marriage.

Because you are looking it from the wrong perspective.

The whole problem with human sexuality is that it does not conform to what a long term economic plan has decided it should be. Sometimes people might love others of the same sex, or more than one person, or all sorts of combinations as long as they involve consent and are medically safe.

The whole argument isn't about marriage and inheritance being equalisted, it's about abandoning this ridiculous legal framework so that everyone has some equality.

Since 90 % of the PLP are Tory, and this is before you get to they MEPs, then this is going to be a regular occurrence. As is well known all the media are Tory scum, fit only to be spat on, and LDs are obviously Tories stooges, then its hard to see any other outcome. Even Ronald McDonnell had to be shown the instruments of torture before he recanted.

Why do posh people have such a dim view of grammar schools?

Maybe it's because they subconsciously (or otherwise) realise they might represent a threat to their own position and that of their children. Clever children from ordinary backgrounds treading on their territory.

There are two arguments against grammar schools:

Firstly, as currently instituted, they are hideously unfair on those of us born towards the end of the school year. Around 3x as many people born in September pass the 11-plus as those born in August.

Secondly, the data suggests (http://blogs.ft.com/ftdata/2013/01/28/grammar-school-myths/) that they don't do what they are supposed to do: i.e. to help bright kids from poor backgrounds achieve their potential.

It seems the first issue could be solved by "a creeping pass mark", but the second is a bigger issue.

I live close to the excellent Henrietta Barnett school, and I hope my daughter gets in on the 11-plus to get there. In fact, I suspect all the girls from my daughter's incredibly expensive prep school will be applying there.

As a fellow August baby (and I was premature too...), I share your pain.

But the data is the data: being born in September rather than August dramatically improves your chances of making it to a grammar school.

He does it because he is a bigot and thinks homosexuality is somehow unacceptable and that this story backs up his demented bias.

The bizarre part (or as some psychologist might argue the revealing part) is that he took it from gay website.

Interesting one for me tonight, I know Gill Troughton in Cumbria via friends. She is quite a Corbynite.

I'm sure she is, with her seat and Jamie Reed's seat disappearing in boundary review, with what results they'll be fighting over. Jamie Reed had a twitter feed about as bad as Liz's Kendall... Being a Corbynite in such a scenario is a smart move.
I think you may be getting Gillian Troughton, the Labour candidate in the county council by-election today, mixed up with Sue Hayman, the former councillor for the division who was elected MP for Workington in May and whose consequent resignation from the County Council caused the by-election. Sue Hayman accepted a position as a whip under Corbyn, very possibly on the logic described above. As I mentioned in a previous post, I asked Gillian at the count if she agreed with the description of herself as a Corbynite and she laughed in a manner which I took as a "no."

Of course if everyone is paying for private tutoring just so they can get their child into one of the few remaining grammars there aren't going to be many free school meal kids there. The fact is that my mum and dad came from council estates but got top educations because there were grammar schools in Dagenham and Romford... Now there aren't any Grammar schools in the borough

You should explain what the problem with this is.

It is not uncommon amongst heterosexual couples to live in tri-relationships. People make choices. Deal with it.
Just think of how much disposable income the "couple" has!

It might be the only way to get a starter home mortgage in london.

It is a curious story. If Gay marriages and polygamy, why not more exotic combinations?

For all his kipperdom, I cannot recall a homophobic remark by isam. I think the problem lies with the accuser.
Maybe, but if he has an opinion on this merely 'interesting' story then why not couch it is some sort of objectively interesting way with some sort of reasoned opinion? Why just the clip or link left wink wink tantalisingly in the air.
If he has no opinion, then why bother us with it. Is there a betting implication, or is he auditioning for a job at Reuters?
He does it because he is a bigot and thinks homosexuality is somehow unacceptable and that this story backs up his demented bias.

The bizarre part (or as some psychologist might argue the revealing part) is that he took it from gay website.
You are a parody... Is there any stereotypical argument you don't use?

I don't think homosexuality is unacceptable in the slightest, and would happily read a gay website without thinking it was anything to remark upon. The story was in the daily mail but I thought people like you would fall into the obvious boring predictable trap of shooting the messenger, so I linked to it from a gay website

    Sharpen up

There are two arguments against grammar schools:

Firstly, as currently instituted, they are hideously unfair on those of us born towards the end of the school year. Around 3x as many people born in September pass the 11-plus as those born in August.

Secondly, the data suggests (http://blogs.ft.com/ftdata/2013/01/28/grammar-school-myths/) that they don't do what they are supposed to do: i.e. to help bright kids from poor backgrounds achieve their potential.

It seems the first issue could be solved by "a creeping pass mark", but the second is a bigger issue.

I must be the exception, born in August and from a poor background. Then again, the test for my school was aptitude based rather than skills so it didn't matter how well one revised for it or how old one was.
IQ test are fairly easy to train for.

Yes, that is exactly what i was doing.... Oops.

I don't know if you can watch it over there, but Donald Trump will host Saturday Night Live on Nov 7th.

To be honest, a tri-gay couple will likely have a lot less than Mick Philpott thanks to New Labours incentivisation of "all the kids your concubines can bear".
