Good electoral news for the Lib Dems.

    There's a rare thing.

Oh, and ebola appears to have reached the capital of Nigeria. One confirmed case at the moment:

FTP: May be more important than local elections however interesting:

Looks like Putin and Russia is sticking up more that two fingers to the EU and the US.
"Fu*k you", He seems to be saying.

I bet Kerry never ventures there even though the Ukrainian government is in a shambles this evening after the resignation of the prime minister, yesterday.

As I said on the last thread that puts Ebola less than seven hours away from London and the current outbreak has been handled very badly. One infected person gets on a plane and we have rather a big problem. Scary stuff.

IMHO polls for the next six weeks are pointless, everyone is on holiday. Sept polling more interesting

We all know all polls are pointless, there is only one that matters ;-)

Incidentally, fully intending to put up the three usual pieces over the F1 weekend. If I remember, I'll also see how early posts (made at the start of a race week with general vague musing and early betting ideas) go, after the summer break.

Right now, Hamilton looks very strong, and it'll be interesting to see if Williams can cement their position as best of the rest.

    Anyway, off for the night.

Maybe they're all going to go to Milan. Much more chic.

FTP discussion of how people get news: in Britain, mostly online (as SeanT observes) and much less politics than other countries, but more entertainment (which explains why our newspapers are as they are):

Meanwhile, check out Robert Peston's makeover. He looks much better actually.

    Still sounds the same, though.

I am impressed how the West has forced Russia into a corner. From an initial position of ignoring and abandoning the Donbass patriots it is now a question of how much support.

For the rebels they have cut off and isolated a significant portion of the Ukrainian forces on the Russian border. With Russian support, heavy artillery, they can be finished off in no time and forces transferred to a now two front war and the endless retreat of the Donbass patriots ended.

Time for my government to end its support of the renegade Kiev government, remember George Bush Senior's slap down of Ukrainian nationalists.

Another Doncaster Labour loss to UKIP.

Good Lord, I find myself in the curious position of not only agreeing with something Tony Blair has said, but also admiring the elegance of his expression of it:

'Old ideas dressed in new clothes are still old ideas and are visibly so when undressed by reality.’

And we appear to have a 12 hour truce agreed in Gaza. Progress, I guess.

Doncaster result: Surely Labour cannot be "unchanged" on 38%. Tories gaining 2%.

So where did the UKIP 41% come from ?

Probably an independent or Eng Dem stood before but not this time. Something like that, I haven't checked.

Confusing, but I think the change figures compare with last year and the swing figures are from when the incumbent fought the seat (2012)? Basically there was a big swing in the ward in 2013 and it's unchanged this year.

Fortunately the world expert in ebola lives in London

At the expense of getting a slapping from @surbition*, I wonder what this will do to BA's profitability (Lagos-London is their third most profitable route after NYC and HK)...

    * FWIW, I never buy airline stocks because the industry has an incredible track record of destroying capital
