I think it's clear, given the trajectory of declining vote share for Labour in the last two Wellingborough GEs, that "only the Lib Dems can beat the Tories [t]here"

I can’t see a Tory win which is a pity as that would probably trigger a “May won’t be that bad” election

    Third, like Bone
  • That is a whopping majority, but it looks like there is only one realistic challenger, if you want to beat the Tories vote labour, so I would think Labour would start as slight favourites, even with that majority

Are there rumours about a Theresa May comeback?
  • No Conservative seat is safe at the moment.
  • Good, the law is a charter for criminals.

Ireland is to take the UK to the European Court of Human Rights over the Government’s ban on new Troubles-era court cases.

Micheal Martin, Ireland’s deputy premier, said the interstate case would argue that the provisions of the Northern Ireland Troubles (Legacy and Reconciliation) Act 2023 are incompatible with the United Kingdom’s obligations under the European Convention on Human Rights.

The controversial legislation, which offers an amnesty for atrocities committed during Northern Ireland’s 30 years of conflict, received royal assent in September despite widespread opposition from political parties, victims’ organisations in Northern Ireland and the Irish government.

Aspects of the laws include a limited form of immunity from prosecution for Troubles-related offences for those who cooperate with the new Independent Commission for Reconciliation and Information Recovery (ICRIR).

I'm mortified to see that Peter Bone is a Chartered Accountant.
  • No Conservative seat is safe at the moment.

Particularly if Pincher is anywhere in the room.
As Boris Johnson put it, 'Pincher by name, Pincher by nature' and people still defend Boris Johnson.

Just imagine if Sir Keir Starmer put a known sexual predator in a position of authority then lied about it.

Nice header, the folk of Wellingborough have shafted him.

Punning aside, is Bone really likely to stand?

    The Wellingborough voters were known
    For repeatedly returning P. Bone
    But a case of exposure
    Made them lose their composure
So the Tories have been overthrown

    Bravo.

    Well from last month.

The disgraced MP Peter Bone has been accused of trying to ensure that his girlfriend replaces him if a by-election is held in his Wellingborough seat.

A recall petition, which could trigger a by-election in the Northamptonshire constituency, was opened against Bone this month after he was found to have subjected a member of his staff to bullying and sexual misconduct and suspended from the Commons. Under a recall petition, a by-election will be held if 10 per cent of Wellingborough constituents sign the petition.

Rather than wait for constituents to pass judgment, senior sources have alleged that Bone, 71, offered to resign to force an immediate by-election if his girlfriend, Helen Harrison, 51, was put on the party’s shortlist of candidates. The recall petition closes on December 19.

You forgot to mention that the opposition is to “the other side” getting off. One’s own, square jawed heroes, of course deserve a complete amnesty.

Well then. My guess is at some point he must surely see that there is no good to come from him standing, unless you want a Labour win.

Hmm, wonder if the Tories will have something to Mone about in the newspapers while the by-election campaign is happening?

A winning policy for Wellingborough would be to extend HS1 as originally planned so you can get a direct train to Paris.

    Girlfriend? OK.

These f****** have no shame. It would appear perfectly acceptable to some Tory grandees to wave their old boy's network in the faces of youthful interns.

Wonder if Ed Balls could be persuaded to return? Or Stephen Ladyman?

As an aside, it's nice to learn that the formidable Dick Pound remains active in global sport administration for the IOC.
