The extraordinary thing about today is that Sunak has not yet acted on Zahawi. He’s still there doing heaven knows what damage to his party.

  • Talking about the Everton.

Everton have been put up for sale by Farhad Moshiri, who is looking for offers of more than £500m for the Premier League club.

  • Off Topic - So did they check under the hood & etc? Make sure they replaced your dipstick!

Excuse me, in first sentence, please substitute "bonnet" where you think appropriate.

As for 2nd, have no clue what you guys call an (automobile) dipstick? Though find it sinister, that you apparently call a "muffler" a "silencer"?

On my Tesla YouTube channel I've decided to be very British and mix the measures. So the back boot is the Boot. Not trunk. And the front book is the Frunk. Not Froot. Because Froot sounds stupid.

As Jonathan and others noted, there are a lot of restive factions in the Conservative Party so perhaps Rishi is displaying Wilsonian party management. Or maybe the precedent of dodgy tax affairs being career-ending is not one to be encouraged.

Send him a narwhal tusk. This is, I believe the ceremonial weapon of True Anti Terrorists.

Someone petition King Charles - The Royal And Extraordinary Order Of The Narwal Tusk. Open to those who have foiled a terrorist attack, around the world. They will have a position in the various state ceremonies, forming an honour guard.

@BartholomewRoberts wifi call is your friend

And Eabhal. Thanks for the advice, WiFi Calling is already enabled on my phone, so not sure why its playing up with the crackly calls and missed calls then?

We have BT Fibre Broadband which was installed by the developers before we moved in, we just needed to get it activated. Not had any other issues with WiFi.
Weird, works perfectly for me. Does it pop up as "WiFi call" or similar when you make a call?
Depends on network as I said above, they can prioritise mobile over Wi-Fi. Use Airplane Mode to force Wi-Fi Calling.

I'm on O2 here and with full reception my iPhone uses the radio access network as that is the priority O2 has set. I just use Airplane Mode when at home to work around this.
Is there a way to find out which networks have set a forced priority like that, and which haven't?

Eg with EE or Vodafone or anyone else would it act just as the same or would they let me choose on the phone to prioritise the Wifi (or simply have the phone prioritise whichever has the best signal)?

  • Just in - classified documents found at home of . . . wait for it . . . Mike Pence.

We have the same issue here with EE.

Patchy mobile coverage in our house (not helped by the amount of foil backed insulation which creates a bit of a Faraday cage). Our phones will switch to mobile when you're in the kitchen then give a crappy quality call when you move around the house. CorrectHorseBattery's Airplane tip works for us and keeps the call on WiFi calling.

    Hi mate how you doing?
I'm ok, just planning a Valentine's Day break.

Women are like, oh don't make an effort but they get annoyed when you don't.

It's tightrope walking over a lion's den wearing blindfolds.

    How you doing?
It is well worth the investment IMO.

It's been reported as fact on Bloomberg too.

So, good news. Would have been better a week ago, and if Germany hadn't had to be shamed into it. But good news all the same.
I must admit that I'd like France to send Leclercs now, if only so we can see a line-up of Leopard 2's, Challenger 2's, Abrams, Leclercs, T72, T84 and PT-91, all fighting on the same side...
So long and tanks for the memories.
On the bright side, we can film Red Storm Rising for free.
Mention of Red Storm Rising reminds me that I fancy reading a good Alt-History novel.

    Any recommendations?
  • Never really got into tanks, ever since I was kid I got REALLY interested in WW2 warplanes and WW2 warships, and also WW1 warships.

“One of the things about being a leader is that you have to have it in yourself to sack those of your team when the need arises”

Absolutely Mike. Little Drip Sunak not a patch on Liz “Leaky Sue Slayer” Truss in this regard.

I note Daily Star refused to waste 65p on a lettuce to battle Crooked Nadhim, on a grounds the match up is swift walkover for the lettuce. But it can’t be long now until Rishi see’s the dreaded butthead degrading under the spotlight, next to the beaming photo of himself.

I admit that that is a heartwarming thought, but I still have my worries about nuclear escalation.
Not going to lie, epic tank battles (and cavalry charges) give me the horn.

I thought the first Gulf War was the last time we'd see tank battles.

This could be the Battle of Norfolk all over again.
I think threatening nuclear annihilation is Putin's version of Le Strop.

He's been told in no uncertain terms through backchannels what awaits him if he ever tries it, not only from us but his Mafioso and political orbiters as well.
The moment of nuclear risk is if and when Russia is being routed in an uncontrolled way and/or there looks like being revolution at home. Sending tanks during a period when the Russians are feeling quite confident with a few marginal gains under their belts is probably a good moment.

Re new sites easier said than done people keep rejecting them for causing “cancer”. Frankly I would make masts be installable anywhere without planning permission. Labour should make that policy.

But anyway, might not help anyway as building construction can have a big impact

Are there unmanned drone tanks? Is that a thing? It would seem like an obvious development.

(1 Google search later: apparently so, and Russian. The Uron 9).

I think Zahawi will resign, and join the ranks of 'leaving my post to spend more time clearing my name' - soon to become the largest parliamentary grouping. That will mean Sunak can solemnly opine that he was right to resign, because we can't have that sort of thing, even though there was actually no wrongdoing, but he's resigned and there's an end of it.
  • FoxyFoxy Posts: 48,655
Zahawi is obviously toast. Why is Sunak waiting?

What possible circumstances could excuse a cabinet minister being penalised for non payment of millions in tax? Whether deliberate or due to negligence on his part, it is a mortal wound.

I think it’s conceivable he resigns his cabinet post, but then faces pressure to lose the whip if it turns out the tax dodging goes further (which there are some indications it might).

Though actually, like Biden, this appears simply to be cockup followed by cooperation with the authorities. Rather than lies and obstruction.

Even stipulating that your last para is 100% correct, just more good news for Trump & Etc. as it makes trying to convict HIM - at least in court of public opinion - of HIS massive, manifold security breaches VERY heavy lifting.

And maybe same with actual courts?
What a ridiculous country the US is, where prosecution of a crime depends on PR appearances rather than objective prosecution guidelines.
You appear to think that public relations is totally irrelevant to courts, in your country as well as mine?

And NOT a totally bad thing. For example, when judges factor in public opinion, in making decisions that go AGAINST the grain of public opinion.

But notion that all in USA law is bad ipso facto is a crock. Same with UK law being all good - or otherwise.

Sunak really is weak. I don’t know if he is temperamentally so but his position certainly makes him so. In office but not in power.

So it’s happening tomorrow morning then?

Won’t outmanoeuvre Starmer sacking just before PMQs as Starmer ain’t leading on Zahawhi anyway. He’s leading in the Albanian Gangsters picking up children (boys over 16) from where the government is keeping them in processing limbo and have now lost hundreds of them, without the Home Office even being able to say how many or who exactly now missing and working for the gangsters.

Starmer’s going to rip the Tories to shreds on immigration, crime and asylum tomorow. That’s PMQs big Story, and all through the afternoon in commons too.

    No doubt.

However, at point where the shield resembles a hedgehog, given number of well-aimed attacks hitting home, its utility declines rapidly. To point where its better discarded than retained.

Just ask the ghost of Harold Macmillan. Or rather, of Selwyn Lloyd.

It seems inevitable to me that what will happen in Ukraine is a new iron curtain. It is never going to return to a democracy, uneasily balanced between being Russian-oriented and Western-oriented. Financially and militarily, Western Ukraine is now a de-facto US protectorate, likely to join the EU and NATO, and Russia can't say or do anything about it.

On the other side, the Donbass bits could be reconquered, but that leads to its own issues - who represents these people now their political parties, language etc. have been banned in Ukraine? Also who pays for the reconstruction? Not me thanks. Russia owning the area is about the only way I see to get them to pay for any of it. Wherever the line is drawn, it looks to me like heavily garrisoned Western and Eastern Ukraine to me.

Someone petition King Charles - The Royal And Extraordinary Order Of The Narwal Tusk. Open to those who have foiled a terrorist attack, around the world. They will have a position in the various state ceremonies, forming an honour guard.
There's a unicorn in the royal crest isn't there? So the horn/tusk is already on the heraldry if looked at in a certain way.
