Sadiq Khan just hosted the biggest "Iftar" in the western world, if not the universe. In Trafalgar Square. I hope I am not breaking the government;s new "Muslim hate" laws by saying I do not like this, I do not want this, and I seek the reversal of this
"It doesn’t sit well with me to see Sadiq Khan say that “we think we’re going to break the record for the biggest Iftar, not just in Britain, not just in Europe but in the Western world.”
Ever since Jim Ratcliffe’s comments, I’m yet to see him proved wrong."

Reform has now attacked the pollsters and has moved onto attacking the media.I think they lose the lead at least once before May 7
They peaked way too early (as I said at the time) and they are currently speedrunning a collapse.
Tories or Labour lead a single poll by the end of the year.
And after a weaker than expected Reform May 7th performance it will imo get very competitive again
But then I'm often not right

It is not true that the Parliament Act can only be used for manifesto items.Convention says fundamental changes to the contract between state and individual ought to be in manifestos. Convention also says (as far as I recall) that use of the parliament act should be for things which were in manifestos only. Why?Then it's no longer a private member's bill, perhaps? Is that right?Question about the Assisted Dying Bill and it being timed out by a session ending.Just bring it back identical in next session and pass it with the Parliament Act.
If a bill is being talked out by the lords, as may be happening now, why doesn't the government just extend the parliamentary session until the stages are complete? SFAICS the only compulsory end to a parliamentary session is the five year rule for automatic dissolution.
Bypass the unelected House.
At which point the question of why it wasn't in Labour's manifesto arises.
If a PMB passes, identically, again then that is valid for the Parliament Act.
The Parliament Act says nothing about manifestos.
The convention you are recalling—the Salisbury Convention—states that the House of Lords should not block or wreck legislation that was promised in the governing party's election manifesto.
Although the Lords can block legislation that was not in the manifesto, the Parliament Act can be used to overcome it.
EDIT Bart beat me to it.

I don’t think there’s any chance he fights the next election. He’ll resign long before because he won’t want to fight again. I know PB hates him but he’s not stupid. If he survives Mandelson and Mays elections he will be with us till the GE imo, but I think he goes after MayThen just under a month to overtake Eden.Starmer is less unpopular than Sunak was at this point in his premiership. Just.Last day you can make the comparison, too
After that, there are a bunch of pub names (kudos to whoever first made that observation), before a cluster of modern PMs who lasted just under or over three years; Brown, Chamberlian, May, Callaghan and Johnson. Failures, yes, but not abject failures. I wonder if Starmer can make it into that elevated group?
However if he’s challenged he’ll fight on.
But I think he’ll resign of his own volition. But I am unconvinced that is 2026. I think a better chance is his popularity recovers some, economy turns around and he goes 2028. Replacement does a Carney and Labour wins again (small majority or minority government).
I fancy John Healey.

And from what we know of Starmer's youth (not a bundle of laughs), it wouldn't be shocking to know that he was more aware of the financial pinch than many of his contemporaries, let alone young people of the same age today. The past, as they say, is another country, and one that most people are happy to have left behind.I think its perfectly normal for kids to overhear their parents talking about there being too much month at the end of their money.I have been my whole adult lifeWhy has no journalist ever asked for more details on his made up family kitchen table chats about bills?I think it means being around the kitchen table when the bills come in.
What did his tool factory owner and nurse parents tell him? What was he denied by their abject poverty?
He knows what it was like to sit around the kitchen table when the bills came in
What the actual fuck does that mean?!
You never been in a position where you are struggling to make ends meet? Most families probably have.
I was quite comfortable as a child; my folks worked hard and made sure that they could support our little family
They were poor when I was born, but got gradually better off. I'm sure that there were times when money was tight, but we never sat down to discuss the household bills around the kitchen table
Maybe Keir had a huge phone bill and used too much heating and electricity, so needed a talking to.. but why else would you include your children in the household bills discussion?

Starmer's rating has improved with me also. Broadly he's got it right.
