Hard to disagree that seems to be the widespread sentiment. The country just doesn’t work for enough people.

Something will give, sooner or later.

It's because not enough people work, so those who do feel as though they are being taken for a ride by illegal immigrants in 4* hotels, spurious benefit claimants who get thousands per month by scamming their way past a useless PIP assessment and lazy public sector workers who don't do very much but keep getting huge payrises and lavish pensions.

The country's productive workers are at breaking point, many are looking to the exit door and following the rich out to parts of Europe where they won't be taxed to death to pay for illegals and the lazy.

That is an absolute master class in punching down. The vast majority of public sector workers are not Sir Humphrey types and don't have lavish pension arrangements or pay rises. They earn about the London Living Wage and do things like answering the telephone trying to help people file their taxes or work in the NHS, police or local council services. PIP is a working benefit where people get money towards helping them live independent lives where they are not a full time burden on the state.

So the conclusions of the Inquiry:

1 a depressingly large number of children are sexually and physically abused in this country.
2 the risks of this happening are greater if you don’t live in a supportive home environment but nothing can eliminate the risk as students of private schools occasionally learn.

3 people pretend to care about those in care but all too often don’t.

4 there is an incredibly strong tendency to blame the victims of such offences both because it is an excuse for gross incompetence and indifference.

5 misogynistic attitudes, contempt for WWC and others, cultural attitudes to non believers and other factors can all contribute to these tendencies but none of them are a necessary adjunct to them. Such evil is pervasive.
6 we need to learn to care more as a society. Good luck with that!

It is an interesting question.

At the time that {the thing that can’t be discussed, but we are discussing) came out, there were calls within the Home Office and social care for extreme preparations and action.

It was assumed that The Thing would kick off murderous riots. That the army would need to be called in. Communities separated by Peace Walls (see Northern Ireland) - with people in “the wrong bits” removed from the homes. Martial law.

None of this happened.

Then a few years later we have people trying to set buildings on fire with people in them, over the issue of hotel accommodation for furriners. What is different? What changed?

What has changed is social media and politicians notionally of the right willing to fan the flames.

As Cyclefree has alluded to, when did you last hear about Farage or Jenrick going on about the abuse scandals in the Catholic church, private schools, football clubs et al?

Working in Manchester the one big scandal that has been bubbling away is police officers strip searching (vulnerable) female suspects and when recordings were requested they were mysteriously deleted.
