Re: The pressure mounts on Johnson ahead of Monday’s “COVID roadmap” statement – politicalbetting.com
Ok, here's one: A Worker's charter. Millions of people are given the status of self employed or are employed on a casual labour basis which amounts to a zero hour contract. The EU (optional sob) created the concept of a "worker" who was given certain basic rights. But we need to go much further. So: 1. All "workers"… -

The best dish on that list is “toasted brioche with stewed meat and escabeche mussel” The first time I went to this tapas bar the dish had sold out within half an hour of the place opening - clearly a celebrated item - so this time I got there as it opened, at lunchtime, and ordered it first (along with a deliciously… -
Re: Graying Out – politicalbetting.com
Two years ago, we stopped in Exeter on the way back from Cornwall. I was astounded how unappealing it was. I had assumed - based on nothing in particular - that it would be a pleasantly charming cathedral city akin to Lincoln or Norwich or Ely. But it wasn't. Now, it was raining, and I spent almost an hour in traffic jams… -
Re: The Ipsos-MORI Economic Optimism index jumps to its highest level for six years – politicalbetting.c
I don't think the Windrush deportations were actually racist. Not in the conventional "black people are nasty, let's get rid of them" sort of way anyway. I think they stemed instead from a process which looked roughly like this: A large influx of EU immigration caused an upturn in popular feeling about there being too much… -
Re: politicalbetting.com » Blog Archive » Guest Slot: Five reasons to bet on Labour winning the Euros
I've been out on a client meeting today with 2 hours drive each way - on way home Jon Pienaar came on as he'd spent the day with Ed M and reported how many people liked Ed when they met him, warmed to him in person and whilst some said he wasn't Prime Ministerial, that didn't mean he wouldn't be Prime Minister.... he then… -
Re: politicalbetting.com » Blog Archive » The PB GE15 competition: Results from the April round
Its the hyperbole..."vandalized our NHS"... A good example is the A&E waiting times...there is an issue with supply, demand, GP, out of hours care etc etc etc, and it does need a smarter plan...but my god the OTT response to 90 out of 100 people being seen in 4hrs...we aren't talking about people waiting 3 years for an… -

Interesting text from a former work colleague Hi We were due to board Grand Princess 7th March San Francisco round trip Hawaii Islands. On Thursday 5th just one hour before our taxi was due for Manchester airport I opened my e:mail account and Princess had cancelled our trip received mail at 05.20 on the 5th. All monies… -
Re: politicalbetting.com » Blog Archive » For LAB the onjective is to avert a Tory landslide – but how
I've no doubt that YOU personally would adopt that attitude towards Britain, but the fact is that the French and Germans never have done so and never will. The EU is their project. They are the motor and always have been. They listen to us politely then ignore us. We are merely there to help pay for it all, and to relieve… -
Re: A suggested betting market for Mid-Bedfordshire – politicalbetting.com
Yes, that's true. My mindset is still focused on the well-building/road-building/hospital-building model of foreign aid, and giving the dosh to the Home Office so they can rent some hotels for migrants in Bognor seems to me a cynical use of the term "aid". I do see a good case for using it for poor countries housing… -
Re: Tories back as betting favourite in North Shropshire – politicalbetting.com
Evening all :) Returning from the depleted team Christmas lunch and talking to the shift manager at the venue, they had suffered a lot of cancellations and reductions yet there was a table of 10 next to us (all co-workers) and a couple of family tables. Encouraging, but you'd expect the place to be rammed on the 14th… -
Re: politicalbetting.com » Blog Archive » Labour’s Falkirk problems seem to be going over many voters
Forgive me using these two paragraphs of Nick Cohen's piece but for Tories who still don't know why so many have low opinion of them and don't believe Christian Barnard could have found a heart if he'd spent a lifetime looking-this is worth reading. There are worse cases but this is so archetypally Tory it's worth… -
Re: politicalbetting.com » Blog Archive » Playing the long game: what do Labour’s moderates do?
As political people your views are not irrelevant. We seem wedded to First Past the Post in this country, and that means a choice of a Labour government or a Tory government. I have never and will never vote for your party, but that doesn't mean my views are irrelevant. Our political system works best when we agree on… -
Re: Leicester East – a possible by-election? – politicalbetting.com
The EU rules allow use of e-Gates for EU EEA CH only. That the odd airport may waive this on the odd occasion doesn't make it universal or regular. Incidentally I had been prepared for a long wait to re-enter the UK based on (a) past experience and (b) the growing reports of Border Force being too busy on their "how to… -

Actually spent Christmas and New Year in Rancho Mirage once with Mrs Stodge and have been there three times. I wouldn't go in the heat of summer but in January it's a balmy 25c by day, the locals complain how cold it is and we are having breakfast al fresco on the terrace of the hotel. I love the area but Rancho is my… -

I expect very bad polls for Con tonight. The second jobs issue looked bad and it was then compounded by a disastrous BBC1 Question Time - Q1 Immigration, Q2 Second Jobs and then worst of all someone in the audience with very good communication skills said they would never vote Con again due to MPs getting a 10% pay rise.… -
Re: politicalbetting.com » Blog Archive » Northern Rail to be nationalised and it looks like HS2 is goin
Taken from elsewhere.... Yet again more sensationalist reporting and lazy exaggeration by the BBC hacks, quoting the set budget figure in 2015 prices and comparing it to a worst-case scenario in 2019 prices. The P95 figure adjusted to 2019 prices is £62bn. Oakervee's very worst case scenario is £106bn in 2019 prices - a… -

Ipsos are typically lying with statistics. Nos. 2, 6 and 9 are explicitly about immigration (immigrants, immigration, refugees), nos. 5, 7 and 8 are implicitly about immigration (impact on "British jobs", "British workers" and on "public services/housing"), and for many people no. 1 ("economy") is about immigration too.… -
Re: I agree with Shadsy – politicalbetting.com
Also agree with Shadsy on counting ballots starting the morning after the election ESPECIALLY when the polls close late in the evening AND counting is done by hand. AND below are some thoughts I posted yesterday after most PBers had taken to the beds - some after doing excellent impersonations of mid-20th century Labour MP… -

Geentonic in great big quantities. I hate gin, cannot stand the stuff. I had a terrible experience at the Lerida agricultural fair when I lived in Spain back in the late 1980s. You paid 200 pesetas to get in (£1) and then were able to sample as much of the produce on display as you wanted. This was at a time when San… -
Re: From the LD Tiverton & Honiton by-election campaign – politicalbetting.com
Whilst Sebastian Fox has announced a sweeping away of the post-privatisation financial sink hole we're still awaiting anything more than a name and a competition by Tory MPs for where its HQ should be. "Just nationalise them" was not the answer as I kept pointing out. Scotrail is now state owned yet the framework which…
