We are guest staying in a hotel, for which we pay a good chunk of cash which is a significant help to keeping them in business, but in return we get a good maid service, access to the business suite, and being able to talk to the other residents in the bar is useful. We are however substantially annoyed by petty fogging… -

I mean for most of us it's 13 years of failure, getting poorer, worsening public services, housing more unaffordable. Leaving the EU, meaning we've lost rights we had before - and contributed to our worsening finances. The self-defeating nature of austerity for local government. Botching important infrastructure projects.… -

My party allegiances are irrelevant in this. However I do recognise the difference between a minor squabble between partners in a customs union and a major bust-up which could end with neither parties having control of the outcome. You are suggesting that the UK doesn't just default on an unjustifiable additional bill… -

The Great McCain Story You’ve Probably Forgotten by Michael Lewis (1997) "By 7:30 we were on the road, and McCain was reminiscing about his early political career. When he was elected to the House in 1982, he said, he was "a freshman right-wing Nazi." But his visceral hostility toward Democrats generally was quickly… -

Why do you not have a beef with Driver, Marquee Mark, amongst others, or even yourself? Because you are one of the seriously partisan posters and are quite content to read posts favourable to the Conservatives and antagonistic towards Labour, LD or the SNP. Bearing in mind Horse has opened up about his health issues and… -
Re: A difficult day for Starmer as well – politicalbetting.com
As a centrist Tory voter by long inclination, for about an hour yesterday, following Braverman going and Cameron returning, I wondered if at some point I should give the Tories a brief look to see if they had been discharged from the asylum yet and it was safe to emerge from the bunker provided by a sane Labour leader. It… -

Looking at the list of "Tory Member Ishoos" in the Header. It looks a bit typical: 1. Cut tax? - Is there potential for the Corporation Tax cut to repeat the "more revenue from a lower tax rate" trick. I suspect not at this scale. 2. Be aggressive on Brexit? - Requires firmness not aggression and huge persistence. That's… -

Depends how often you fly and whether you want to work or not. My last 5 BA flights have been so bad my default logic is anyone else (including Bulgaria air where flights are routinely 2 hours late) is better than BA... And if you are looking at onward flights via Schiphol will always be quicker overall... -

If there was earlier success on a deal, he might perhaps have got better tweaks on the back-stop. I suspect he would have at least fought the point more than May appears to have done. But if Davis had to come away with it still in place, then again, ERG would have had to suck it up. It's just been amateur hour by May. -

I once had a match where they actually managed to get 17 overs in the last hour. But everyone shook hands on a draw after 15 overs, so I started doing my end of match tallying - and then I looked up to see another over and a half had been bowled. Fortunately, the last two overs consisted of 12 blocks. -

Re: How those saying Green 6 months before an election actually voted – politicalbetting.com
Yes, it's amazing how the Lib Dems didn't realise how much power they had after the 2010 election (compared to say the DUP after May's election). The Tories were so desperate to be in power after 13 years of defeat that Nick Clegg could have been Chancellor, and at the very least got PR for local elections and a democratic… -

It is very difficult to see anything but a PR nightmare and an acquittal if they charge him with anything including affray. Martin was a fair enough cop. Yes, it would shock even me. Pornography allegedly found on Damian Green’s computer was so extreme it would have been illegal if found weeks later, it was claimed last night. The computer was seized from the House of Commons in November, 2008, before the law on possessing extreme images was changed in January, 2009.....… -

There are signs that Mr Miliband is wobbling. The big beasts — Alistair Darling and David Blunkett — are lining up to demand more conviction and credibility from their leader. Behind the scenes, there is a growing sense of despair on the Labour benches in the House of Commons. “He’s lost control of the party,” says one… -

All the Universities I know were clear that most teaching will be online. Most students actually want to meet other students. They don't want to secure cheaper accommodation many miles away. However, I am in favour of (i) reimbursing students their rent if they now wish to leave their Halls of Residence and return to their…
