Re: New Red wall constituency poll has CON 15% behind – politicalbetting.com
The dystopian Wuhan-type videos are back, as well "But there was also this video of a resident being beaten by anti-epidemic workers after he allegedly left his community to get steamed buns because he was so hungry. The two community workers have reportedly been detained by Xi'an police." "It’s been 10 days since the… -

If I had to choose just one long shot it would be 'Arrival' for 'Best Production Design'. I also like the 2 hour length and watching in a cinema and in many cases the money they can spend. The techniques and disciplines for cinema are also different. Films like 'Apocalypse Now' or even 'The Godfather' could never have been… -

Maybe he'd finished his day, or was travelling with 5 colleagues, or intended to walk but walked out into a monsoon without a brolly, or was going to his mistress' house and didn't want to alert his driver :) The usual subjects would have been up in arms is he had a private driver. I am genuinely undecided right now. The anti-encryption lunacy the other week had me sobbing into my Conservative cornflakes but some UKIP announcements since Christmas have been positively old-Labour. My house in the UK is in a fairly safe Conservative seat though so I don't think anyone is hugely bothered about my vote. -
Re: Red Tape or Red Mist? – politicalbetting.com
Was there not a common law offence of 'behaving in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace'? Presumably it has been legislated away in the interim. But it was a long-established principle that one shouldn't provoke people into behaving violently and the onus isn't necessarily on them to turn the other cheek. Depends… -
Re: politicalbetting.com » Blog Archive » LAB continues to have double digit lead on the NHS but the gap
My local A&E has a big sign up saying, if you do not have Chest Pains, Breathing problems, severe stomach pains, broken bones, very deep cuts, then you will be turned away. They do and they have an out of hours GP practice round the corner. They enforce this very strongly. I have been three times in the last 18 months with… -

The decision has been made for financial services in the UK. The previous business model that included London as the financial centre for Europe no longer applies, so no point in flogging a dead horse. London will continue as a domestically significant financial centre, which also offers certain products at the global… -

They're back to being a cranky fringe movement. They still have plenty to say, but their pronouncements are not noticed by most voters and are of interest to an even smaller proportion. Also, more evidence of lobbying for the Lib Dems to turn themselves into the Ukip of the 48%: "The Lib Dems aren’t the parliamentary force… -

O/T but if you need proof that the NUS has become a complete joke:“Students are facing a housing crisis with an ever-narrowing gap between their incomes and what they are expected to pay in rent,” said Shelly Asquith, the NUS vice-president of welfare. “There needs to be enforced rent controls to put an end to this”[my… -

Theresa May has at least two other loops: while (true) do 1) schedule important statement for later that day 2) arrive half an hour late 3) say nothing done for (ever) do a: invite opponents to meetings (or EU summits) b: tell them what you've been telling everyone for months c: don't listen, answer questions or engage in… -

I explain it as the consequence of them being anti democratic numpties. The trouble is that that argument has been receding in the rear view mirror at a rate of 24 hours per day for nearly 3 years and is now virtually invisible. Are you saying in my analogy that we have to build the reactors at 10x the estimate, and let… -

LOL! What a bizarre comment. It was unambiguously worse from the mid 1960s until 1979, arguably worse from around 1989 until 1997, unambiguously worse from 2003 until 2010. If you mean the Labour Party has never been in a worse state, then I might agree, although we are talking the precedence between a louse and a flea in… -

Another good thread David old chap. The funny thing is Nigel Farage behaves like a Life Peer; off message, a bit unhinged, always putting his foot in it and getting away with it etc. He is like a 'mini-me' version of Norman Tebbit. It is time for the Lords to be reformed and perhaps Peers should be elected like the… -

Keeping tabs on persons of interest is not the job of the police. Its MI5 who do that and they have had increased funding. Would you care to agree that its likely that Mrs May as Home Secretary insisted on that? Morning all :) Another extraordinary day yesterday culminating in Theresa May's speech outside No.10. There's nothing new in Prime Ministers using the backdrop of their house for a bit of shameless electioneering - in fact I can't think of one who hasn't at some point. I also decided to read the speech rather than watch it… -

Both during 2008 and COVID that the state encouraged / shielded companies from going bust or making too many people unemployed e.g. in 2008, there was lots of push for everybody to take a pay cut, reduce hours but keep your job etc. Now unemployment can be a terrible personal experience and too many all at once again can…
