Re: politicalbetting.com » Blog Archive » TMay’s now a net 24 points behind Corbyn in Ipsos MORI leaders
As with your answer I think that's a false premise. If the UK government had made exactly the same decisions about interest rates between 90-97 but had kept the policy of shadowing the DM a secret during the period when we were in the ERM, would anything have been different? Perhaps the only difference is that Soros… -
Re: politicalbetting.com » Blog Archive » A 200/1 Tip for Next Prime Minister
Goodness but what a lot of tosh has been written on here in recent days. There are about 150 safe Labour seats and about 150 safe Tory seats and 1 safe Liberal seat (Orkney and Shetland). Every other seat has swung like a pendulum over the last 40 years. Look at the 1979,83,87 results and you will see many seats with… -

On the whole New Zealand question, Mrs Stodge (who is of the Kiwi persuasion) gets offended when someone calls her Australian based on her accent. She did laugh once when someone on a cruise ship thought she was South African. I've been to NZ just three times - my view is Auckland is a more Asian city than I expected while… -

Facebook has been a dead platform for me for at least four years now. I don't know anybody who actually uses it any more save for a) messenger (a few group chats) and b) posting classifieds for used furniture and the like. I'm a year shy of 40. Instagram is going the same way - most of my friends used to post daily, now… -

Talking about Netflix and other streamers, I can see them pulling out of Spain. The Spanish government is to oblige streaming platforms such as Netflix to help finance public broadcaster RTVE through a contribution of 1.5% of their revenues from next year. The measure is part of the country’s new draft audiovisual law,… -

Sorry, Ian, but that's rubbish. Leaving aside the minor detail that if you put local services on the route the odds are it will end up as a slower service than the existing WCML due to capacity issues - thereby making it highly unattractive to everybody - part of the idea is that it goes through places that are not heavily… -

I am not driven by party bigotry. I vote Labour but I am not a member. Some actions cry out "spook job". They don't cry out greatness, genuineness, and bravery. I can't remember any Tory leaders being targeted in this way. Papers were found in Switzerland which brought down Jonathan Aitken. A couple of UKIP leaders have… -

I still find it unlikely that there will be any serious moves to dump Trump before the next primary. GOP insiders have the next 30 months to get their house in order and present an alternative to Trump II, especially to the blue collar whites that delivered Trump to the WH. IMO, Trump isn't going to be a disaster, but nor… -

Mrs C, mostly agree on migration but there is a significant and unaddressed problem. More people require more infrastructure. Migration is instant but infrastructure takes a lot longer to put in place. House prices also rise significantly. And then we get into culture, which has led to the less than splendid situation of a… -

Quite. "...Take gas and electricity bills. Yes, he’s right that we need a regulator with real teeth to curb profiteering. But a state-imposed price freeze until January 2017? No one can buck the markets – not even Ed Miliband. And not since the failed prices and incomes policies of the 1960s and 70s has any government been… -

1941 really marks the hinge point between Pax Britannica and the American century, even if American power and influence had been blindingly obvious since at least 1918. Did the Americans exploit the situation to get their hands on UK assets? Broadly, yes. Did they also hasten the end of imperial dreams? Certainly at Suez,… -

There has been claims of up to 6-9 days on metal. Obviously the biggest concern is it being still airborne for hours, if true it is effectively a chemical weapon. Although, the researchers are saying they don't know if this is actually how transmission occurs and tests with SARS produced similar results. -
